Some Possibilities

Go to this web page first.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com

Were any paper jams removed through the front? If so, the spot sensor lens may be missing. If a small clear plastic lens that came out of the printer was found, the spot sensor is broken for sure. It is fairly easy to check whether the lens was found or not. Open the printer as if a cartridge is going to be changed. When the carriage centers, unplug the power. There is a cover on the right side of the carriage that is held in place by one T10 Torx screw. Remove the cover and examine the small printed circuit board inside. A rectangular lens should be on the bottom edge. If it is not, the circuit board will have to be replaced. The orignal spot sensor no longer available but I have a strong suspicion that it is interchangeable with one used on the Deskjet 1220, P/N C2693-67037.

Also make sure the small cable going between the spot sensor and carriage board is plugged in all the way on both ends.

Tip: Always remove paper jams through the rear access door.

Hey. I'm getting the same error. It looks like this is because my K60xi isn't producing any yellow ink. I replaced both the color and black ink cartridges and cleaned the all of the cartridge's electrical connections, but my printer is still stuck in the infinite "cartridge alignment failed - try again" loop. The cartridge alignment printouts are missing yellow ink (as are the printouts produced by cleaning the ink cartridges), so that's probably why the alignment is failing.

Assuming that my color ink cartridge is working correctly, can anyone tell me how I might get my printer to actually produce some yellow ink? Thanks.

People have gotten 'stubborn' cartridges working by soaking the nozzle area in hot water or priming the nozzles using a vaccum cleaner. If neither of these methods work, return the cartridge to the store were your bought it for an exchange.

I doubt that the problem is the cartridge. I noticed that my printouts were missing yellow, so I replaced the color cartridge, and the yellow is *still* missing. To me, this indicates a problem with the printer, not the cartridge.

If this is indeed the case, is there anything I can try, or is the printer completely hosed? Thanks.

Hello Kenji
Do this first, this will tell you
whether it is the printer or the cartridge.
Take both out of the k60.Dab the black cartridge on a piece of paper towel and you should see a black mark left behind.(which
I am betting it will). Now do the same to the color cartridge,You should see a yellow mark
on the left,a red one in the center, and a blue one on the right. If the cart does not leave the marks behind on the paper towel,
do what bert said and return the new cart.

I'll be damned, Rob. I did what you suggested and my color cartridge didn't leave any yellow ink on the paper towel. Although my cartridge is fresh out of the box, it's actually about a year old (I bought it as a backup last year). Is it possible that yellow ink evaporates faster than the cyan and magenta inks?

Anyway, since I've already bought a new HP 2710 to replace this K60xi, I now have to decide whether I want to shell out $30 for another color cartridge for a printer I'll probably sell anyway. A dilemma.

Rob, thanks in any case for your advice.

I ended up buying another color ink cartridge, and it fixed my problem. It's a little disturbing that the yellow ink can apparently completely evaporate from a cartridge in the course of a year while it sits new in the box, but I guess that's the way it is. Thanks to those who bothered to reply, and to whoever hosts this forum.

I have the same problem except the ink cartridge was maybe two weeks old from the store. Well, that sucks, gotta get a new cartridge now.

I am having a similar cartridge alignment problem with a different hp printer. I do not use the color ink cartridge on one of the printers at all, but the "press enter to align cartridges" message keeps coming up. I'd like to know if the message went away after you changed to a brand new cartridge (one with the yellow ink as well). Thanks.

My 2 year old re-programmed my HP K60, is there a magic way to reset it back to normal?

PROBLEM: Printer continually asking me to "Press Enter to Align Cartridges". I too had just installed a new HP Inkjet Color Cartridge #78 and noticed "no yellow" ink (although the cartridge was new, it was sitting in a drawer for about 6 months).

SOLUTION: I bought another HP Inkjet Color Cartridge #78 (no wonder why HP's stock is doing so well) and it solved my problem.

HOW TO TELL: When you attempt to align your cartridges, your test print page should print 4 colors: black, blue, red (actually looks more like hot pink), and yellow. If any are missing, suspect the cartridge (a pain, but it's usually cheaper than replacing the printer)...

I cant install my officejet k60, I have windows xp on my computer, and my install disk say is only for windows 95/98 and windows 2000, how can I fix that

Re: hp k60 office jet by samalander (8/17/06 4:09 PM) reply + / -
I'm trying to install an officejet k60 also. Apparently, windows xp only works via a usb cable. I don't have one and need to know where I can get one.

To Anonymous: you can download the driver from the internet if you have access. http://h10025.www1.hp.com

Finally got K60 to print something...saw thread above about small circuit board, took it out and examined it, it had a smudge of ink on it, clean it off...that fixed the alignment, but when it prints with two new cartridges, it gets 6 green check marks on lines 2-7, but line one which is totally black seems to be offset to right about 1/2 inch...is that normal

I just had my HP officejet k60 spot sensor go out and as the part C6428-60013 has been more or less obsoleted I replaced it with part number C2693-67037 per this thread and it worked perfectly. It also looks exactly like the 60013 part. HP would not verify that these parts were interchangeable. I bought a new one at CHA, the Printer and Scanner Specialists for under $15.00

TRUE TRUE TRUE !!!!!!!!!!!! Listen all: I cleaned the cartridge pores, especially the color ones and after loading them up again for the first time the "Press Enter to Align Cartridges" completely disappeared!!! And, I'm talking about after REFILLING both black & color cartridges- I used the same empty ones! God bless!!! <>< ...(a few minutes later..) YES! I just printed a page and in worked!!!! <>< <>< <><

Thank you so much for this help! My printer refused to print, no matter what I tried troubleshooting and kept showing the "Align Cartriges" message. Even though i wasn't printing in color and it was showing I had some ink in the cartridge, it must have dried up. I replaced the color ink with a new one and now it works. Finally !!
