I have an epson c40s printer. I can no longer get it to do anything. When you power it on, with paper loaded, the red light stays on solid and the green power light flashes. From there, I'm stuck. If you remove the paper and power off then on, you get two solid lights. (solid red light, solid green). From there if you press he maintenance button the green light starts flashing immediately again. I read your comments in another post regarding the waste ink pad counter but Im not sure if this is related??? I know that this printer has been through at least 25 sets of cartriges and 3-4 blocks of paper in its life.

Thank you very much. It worked! Right when I thought it was time to junk the machine too... All I did was reset then recycle the power to the machine and viola.
Just out of curiousity, does anyone know the threshold value which cannot be exceeded for this counter? (I didnt check the value prior to the reset..GRRRR)

For what I can remember the limit depend by the printer; usually it is two bytes long so the maximum value stored should be 65535. Anyway the firmware can stop the printer before, at any value.
I'm happy to know that my suggestion has been useful :)
I am using an Epson c40ux and when I try to print both the green and red light alternately flash and a message appears saying that 'parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement'. Is there anything that I can do to 'fix my own printer'?
It has all the details for getting your c40ux going again. It seems that epson is hung up on counters and numbers. You have printed a "magic number" of pages and it thinks your ink waste pads are full. They may or may not be.
On another subject, I always fake my printer out when it says it is out of ink by cycling the machine and opening and shutting the ink cartridge lockdowns. I get at least 100 more prints out of the cartridge before they are truly out of ink. anyone else do this?
So I found the website with the ink pad counter reset app, but it won't run on my iMac as it is a PC programme. Anything out there for Macs to reset the counter?
Dennis: Not that I am aware of. About the only thing you can try, is to install your printer onto a "Windows 98 Computer System" [like at work, or possibly a friends PC], connect your Printer Cable and download the correct Printer Drivers from the epson.com web-site. Then try to do that "SSC Service Utility", reset procedure and see if it will work for you. Unfortunatly, that "SSC Service Utility" does not work on all Epson Printers and not on all Operating Systems and sometimes will not even work on actually listed printer models, so you will have to check it out for yourself. Just in case that source does not work: You may actually need to go on-line to try and locate a "SERVICE MANUAL" and also the actual "RESET PROCEDURE", to buy and download for reference in disassembly, troubleshooting and servicing. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals & Reset Procedures for most Epson Printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com/index.php?cPath=2_18 . Most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 [ /-]. The reset Procedure is usually available from the same source and is also around $10.00 [ /-]...Good Luck! Denny Conway
