Epson cx5200 ink problems by melanie (7/11/04 12:20 PM) reply+1 + / -
I replaced the black ink last month and everything worked fine until a couple of days ago. The black ink started to print real light so I ran several cleanings, but nothing has worked. The color inks were starting to run a little low too so i thought replacing them might help clear up the problem, but that didn't work either. Now when i print i get light black print and big black ink spots. what is going on. please help

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Wes (7/11/04 2:19 PM) reply + / -
The most common problem found with the CX5200 is the tubing on the cap asselbly becomes disconnected. The cap assembly can't clean the print head if the tube is detached. For info to see if the tube is disconnected try this link http://www.compassmicro.com/tip_detail.cfm?TechTipID=23

The print head face may also need to be cleaned as well as the print head itself.

For info try these two links http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/Printhead.html http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/phface.html

And for more info on trouble shooting the CX5200 try this link http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/CX5200TS1.html and for disassembly info try here http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/CX52001.html

I hope this helps,

Wes.

I replaced the black ink cartridge in an Epson CX5200 printer and no ink has come out. I have used the head cleaning function (several times) and I have bought another black ink cartridge to correct the problem. What can I do since the Tech Support Office of Epson is closed over the weekend?

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Denny Conway (7/12/04 12:08 PM) reply + / -
Debi: By now you may have already contacted the Epson Technical Support Department, but theres some additional information that I thought you should know. You might want to check out the "Stylus C82 & CX-5200 Blank Output" information page, put out by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/tip_detail.cfm?TechTipID=23 . It may be of some help on your printers possible problem. It seems like most of the problems are not actually related to clogging, or even a bad or empty ink cartridge, but is usually more of a Hardware/Parts Failure, but no way for me to really know. It seems to happen most of the time, just by simply repacing the ink cartridges, as normal. I know this information does not really give you that much to go on, but I felt you should know about other peoples reports, just in case it happens to apply in your case...Good Luck! Denny Conway

My printer started to have fine stripes, that are blanked out. The stripes allways appear at the same positions, through the whole Page.
I cleaned and checked everything several times. What can I do now?

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Denny Conway (7/20/04 10:10 AM) reply + / -
Doro: I'm guessing that when you say "My printer started to have fine stripes, that are blanked out", that there are actually WHITE LINES or VOID LINES running thru the printed text on the paper. That usually indicates either a bad/failing ink cartridge, or either a clogged or failing Printhead Assembly, but no way to really know. When I see "White Lines/Void Lines" running thru the printed text, its usually do to either a bad/failing ink cartridge, or a clogged or failing Printhead Assembly, but no way to really know for sure. If you have not ran up to 6 sets of "Printhead Cleaning Cycles" & "Nozzle Tests", then I suggest that you first try that for your printing problem. Remember to always run a nozzle test after every cleaning test ran, because Epson Printers use the nozzle test for a point of reference for the next cleaning test ran. If you have already ran the "Printhead Cleaning Cycle" & "Nozzle Test" [or after running those sets of tests] several times without any improvement, I would suggest actually installing a New-Epson Ink Cartridge, as a test. If that does not help, then you might want to try using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution, available through the Home Page on "fixyourownprinter.com", at " http://fixyourownprinter.com/ ". When it opens, click-on Epson, under PRINTER REPAIR KITS. Then click-on "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution" and that page should then open correctly. The Epson Solution sells for around $10.00 plus shipping. It includes a syringe and some Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution, which is designed to dissolve most clogs, especially if you were using Epson inks. This is the same chemical used by Epson in their service department. You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again, but that will only help if they are actually clogged. If you want to see what's involved in print head cleaning, Wes has supplied a link that might help: http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/printhead.html and he also suggests trying the SSC Service Utility from here: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Unfortunatly, that SSC Utility does not work on all printers and on all Operating Systems, so you will have to actually check for yourself...Good Luck! Denny Conway...P.S. Check for an e-mail from me, with some additional information with that cleaning kit, in case you decide to use it.

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by mike (7/28/04 4:36 PM) reply + / -
I checked and the tube is still connected. I just installed new color and they are fine but no black coming out. Cleaned it 6 times and no joy. Found your site and then checked the tube. Still attached. Could the tube still be clogged although it's still attached? Also, the ink pad by the opening of the cleaning tube is wet with black ink so it doesn't seem like that's the problem. I also replaced the black cartridge and that didn't work either.

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Denny Conway (7/29/04 9:52 AM) reply + / -
Mike: Its of course possible that you may have an actual Printhead or Main Board failure, thats causing the black not to print, but no way to know for sure. As you can see wet black ink on the ink pad, it does not sound like the printhead assembly is actually clogged. It has been reported several different times on this Printer Repair Site, that people have actually found clogs in those tiny hoses. If the hoses are connected properly, but are actually clogged or even pinched, that could stop the vacuum action, which in turn stops the ink flow during printing...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Denny Conway (8/9/04 3:35 PM) reply + / -
Thomas: If your printer is still under its origional Factory Warranty [one year], then I would suggest that you file a Warranty Claim with Epson Company. You may need your origional sales receipt or invoice as Proof of Purchase. Check your receipt and if your printer is under warranty still, then call the EPSON CONNECTION, at 1-562-276-1300 and file a warranty claim...OTHER THAN THAT: Be sure that you removed the normally yellow PULL TAPE off the ink cartridge. Assuming you installed the ink cartridge correctly, then I can only guess that either the Printhead Assembly is clogged, or one of those tiny tubes are clogged. Its of course always possible that there is actually a Hardware/Parts problem or failure [bad Printhead Assembly or Main Board Assembly], but no way to really know. The only common problem is that previously disscussed issue, which seems to be fairly common on several different newer models of Epson printers in the last year or so. Its also possible that you may have gotten a bad ink cartridge, but that is not very common on Epson Ink Cartridges. Usually if the cartridge is defective, you will get an actual Red Ink Error Light that comes on...Unless you removed the old ink cartridge and left it out of your printer for more than 30 minutes, then I doubt that its an actual clog, but again no way to know. You might want to try using the Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution, available through the Home Page on "fixyourownprinter.com", at http://fixyourownprinter.com/ . When it opens, click-on Epson, under PRINTER REPAIR KITS. Then click-on "Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution" and that page should then open correctly. This is the same chemical used by Epson in their service department. You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again, but that will only help if they are actually clogged. It was basically designed by Epson Company for use on their older models of ink jet printers, but people have been using on the newer models, with some sucess reported. If you want to see what's involved in print head cleaning, Wes has supplied a link that might help: http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/printhead.html and he also suggests trying the SSC Service Utility from here: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Madhatter (8/11/04 8:49 PM) reply + / -
I have been working on this printer for about 3 hours. First thing I started with was the hose. It was off and I was able to reconnect it without taking the thing apart.

I used a long paper clip, straightened out, and the end curled in a U shape. Use that to pull the upper hose so that you have something to push against with the other hose. Then using some needle nose pliers to slip the hose over the little nozzle.
After a few charging session I was able to get an okay amount of color, and little to no black.

To run the charging cycle, go through the "changing the cartriges" menu. I ran this about 3 times. My theory is that the cartriges' have probably been ran dry...and now there is a small amount of air in the system, which the print heads can't push out, only a vacume can pull it out.

I really did use about 1/2 of the black ink, and about 1/5 of the other colors.

STILL it would not print correctly. Nothing but lines..no clear full letters.

WHAT FIXED MY PROBLEM:
Change the quality setting in printer settings to the very highest, and then print out a page with black and white and color. Then set it back down to the lowest draft quality. This got it to the point where it will print documents with more legible words on it...but even on the highest setting the black is still really light. The color doesn't seem to be having the problem.

So try these extra steps and see if that helps

My scanner light does not come on when I start a scan. My printer then turns off and stays off until I unplug it. After a while I replug the printer and the light indicating power comes on, but the cycle repeats. I reviewed the repair manual for the CX5200 and no where does it talk about replacing the lamp if that is the problem.

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Denny Conway (3/22/05 12:09 PM) reply + / -
nezret: If you are using non-epson ink cartridges [generic or third-party cartridges] in your printer, its possible that those cartridges are just not made the same as actual epson ink cartridges. Unfortunatly, not all generic & third-party ink & ink cartridges are made the same and none of them actually contain the right formulation of ink, for the Epson Printers [formula is patented by Epson Company]. Some are probably close and seem to be better than others, but some simply can clog-up or even damage the Printhead Assemblies on Epson Printers, or even not fit exactly right. Epson Ink Jet Printers are one of the few printers on the market that seem to have so many problems with non-manufactors inks, especially the newer models made in the last couple of years. Its because the Epson Printers use a completely different printhead inking system than most other brands of printers. Most, if not all of the other manufactors, use thermal or bubble jetprint heads and because the other brands use a totally different system, they don't seem to have as many problems using refilled inks or non-manufactor's ink cartridges. Printer manufacters do not make available their ink formulation and any difference in that ink formulation can actually cause clogging in the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components in Epson Printers. One individual printhead nozzle is so tiny, that it will not accept a human hair, so you can see why they can get clogged so easily, or even why the nozzles can be so easily damaged...Even if you are actually using epson ink cartridges and they won't come out: There's not much you can do other than try wiggling those cartridges, as you are holding in on the two locking type levers, that are on each end of the ink cartridges, while you are trying to pull them out at the same time...Good Luck! Denny Conway

I just went through a similar problem to many others - I changed the black & yellow ink cartridges, and those colours stopped printing. The problem was the disconnected cleaning station tube. The hardest part was finding the information on problem - CompassMicro has taken down the tips page that is referred two several times on this page. For people who need this info, here is a link to the WayBack machine that has an archived copy of the CompassMicro tip:

Hello all,

My cx5200 recently completely stopped printing. Head moves, all like normal, but no output. It happened after I've tried to clean the nozzles with the solution.

I've disassembled the printhead and discovered that one of the connectors was drowned in the cleaning solution (stupid me). I've dried it out and checked electical connection with multi-meter. It appear to be fine now, but still the printer head is dead.

At this point I believe that either board is damaged or the head. The latter seems more plausible, since the reast of operations, such as head motion control, paper feed is fine - only the head doesn't actually print.

I did discover two resistors (out of four) on the head board that might be fried (multimeter shows infinite resistance). Is there any way to be sure that those are the problem? Buying a new head seems a bit pricey, so I hope I can fix this one somehow.

Any advice on electrical diagnostics of the head damage would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Mr. X (5/7/05 1:13 PM) reply + / -
Epson is a scam. When your printers are defective they ALWAYS ship you out re-furbished units from their warehouse. THe ink is not the problem with the printer. It's the shotty design of the print head that causes this issue. EPSON knows about it, and does nothing but give you options to fix your broken printer (in which sometimes they ship it back to you still broken) or they give you a discount to buy a newer model that will more than likely break down within the crappy one year warantee.

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Anonymous (5/7/05 1:38 PM) reply + / -
"crappy one year warantee"? How about HP or Canon with 90 days?

I have a question when I am printing in black only it still uses the other colors I choose print in black as the setting why is that it uses the other colors?

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Stephen (6/26/05 12:38 PM) reply + / -
When the printer cleans the printheads it uses some of every color, if it didn't the color heads would all clog up when you were only printing black.

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Wes (6/26/05 8:24 PM) reply + / -
Ink jet printers use two types of black. There is pure black and composite black. Composite black us made by using the other three colors to produce the composite black. This is what produces the grays, shadows and so on. Most printers will produce both pure black and composite on the same doccument.

This is also the same reason why a printer will not print just black even you have selected black only printing. It needs the other colors to make the composite black.

I hope this helps,

Wes.

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Denny Conway (7/19/05 5:00 PM) reply + / -
arqness: First, run a nozzle test to see if all the colors and the black are actually printing or not. If most of the nozzles are not open and printing, then try running sets of "Print Head Cleaning Cycles" and "Nozzle Tests" and see if that helps or not. Refer to your owners manual/users manual on how to run those tests, if you do not know how to actually run those tests...ALSO REMEMBER: You have to run a "Nozzle Test" after every "Printhead Cleaning Cycle" ran. The printer uses each nozzle test, as A POINT OF REFERENCE. If you don't run a nozzle test after the cleaning cycle, the printer cannot GUAGE how well the actual cleaning is doing. If you continue to just keep running cleaning cycles, with no nozzle test in between, the printer can actually start doing reduced cleaning cycles. If enough cleaning cycles were run, in a row with no nozzle tests performed, the printer could possibly just be going thru the motions. The cleaning cycles could have possibly kept reducing to the point no actual cleaning was being performed at all...TECH NOTE: IF YOU RUN MORE THAN 5 OR 6 CLEANING CYCLES/NOZZLE TESTS AND YOUR NOZZLES DON'T OPEN AT ALL, THEY ARE PROBABLY "CLOGGED", OR THERE IS SOME OTHER HARDWARE/PARTS FAILURE. ALL CLEANING CYCLES ACTUALLY DO ARE ATTEMPT TO PUSH OUT/FLUSH OUT OLD INK AND MINOR CLOGS, WITH NEW INK. THERE IS NO ACTUAL MAJOR CLEANING BEING PERFORMED. A RUBBER CLEANING BLADE DOES WIPE OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE PRINTHEAD ASSY, BUT ITS MORE LIKE A WINDOW SQUEEGE BLADE...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Been looking for an answer to my problem, here at the forum, which is almost like the others. After I cleaned the printhead, ( removed it from the printer and replaced after cleaning), the printer switch itself off when it is about to start printing. It just dies and I need to remove the power for about 2 minutes and it starts again. Sometimes it pull down the paper and almost begin with the first line, it dies. I can clean the head, but no nozzle check, adjusting of printhead or copy. It is not connected to a PC right now. I am used to do service at printers, but this problem is odd.
I also found the reason for stopping printing black, replaced the hose, but it still do not want to print.
I have tried to consult Epson, but they refuse to answer, and want my printer to be shipped to a workshop.
Any good advice?

My name is Abayomi Adebanjo from Nigeria.

I have Epson Sylus CX5200 with the problem of printing blank pages but going through the FAQ at fixyourownprinter.com I found the useful information as per the message below I have tried this suggestion myself due to my hardware experience and it works. If you can not handle this yourself, I will suggest you call exprience technician to handle the flushing of the ink rubber pipe and cleaning of the waste ink tank. My printer work properly.

Thank you Denny Conway and the teams at compassmicro.

Hi Wes
I was unable to access the links on your post. Our cx5200 is out of warranty and I believe we have a clog problem. We still have the red and blue ink. However black and yellow are inop. Tried multple head cleanings and alignments. No help. The clear plastic tube on the lower right hand side of the printer runs through what appears to be a wobble pump? I cleaned out the associated lines. It seems to terminate in some sort of drain trough in the center of the base.

Hi my printer was working fine then suddenly just stopped, I just get a blank page with what in the old days I would have called roller markings on it. I tried a print test but still nothing prints, I tried a head clean but it says one of my cartridges is too low, but not low enough to set off the change cartridge alarm, can I change it some other way? I dont want to force it? There is also a chance that I turned off the printer at the mains whilst the power on light was flashing, which the manual says is a no-no is there a re-set for this? Hope you can help. many thanks Bazman

The genuine EPSON ink cartridges listed above are recommended for replacement. Click the How to button for ink cartridge replacement instructions.

this is the message i'm getting when i try to print my documents. however, i have replaced the black ink cartridge with a brand new Epson cartridge of ink. i had changed my preferences to black and white, but it still will not print my documents. i do not understand why yellow is an issue if i'm trying to print black and white documents. am i setting the preferences incorrectly?

I read the messages about the tube getting disconnected from the cap assembly. Mine is DISconnected. I went to that compassmicro site but it didn't give me any info on how to shrink my fingers small enough to fit into the compartment to put the tube back on. I tried tweezers, forceps and a kid (small fingers). A drawing or diagram would help. There doesn’t seem to be a way to get in there short of major disassembly. I'd like not to do that since I always wind up with extra parts on the table. Short of a hundred dollar repair at a service center for a printer that only cost $150, anybody have a real world solution?

make sure you remove the plastic protecter from the cartrige. It alllows ink to enter the head from the cartrige by letting air in to fill the void in the cartrige.

My Epson CX5200 stopped printing a few weeks ago. I found fixyourownprinter.com a few days ago, and was reading all of the posts from everyone that was having the same problem as I. I did the nozzle cleaning, head alignment, blah, blah, blah. Still no good. So, I called Epson and they walked me through the elimination process and determined that my printer was not printing due to a "hardware problem." They offered me a $40 discount on any printer I purchased through them at their online store, or I could send my printer in to them for free repair, but it could take 4 to 6 weeks. They were very nice people.....I can't complain there. But, after reading how widespread this "not-printing" issue is, I decided to get away from Epson, and shopped a few stores this morning for Canon printers, and wound up purchasing a Canon Pixma MP500 at Staples for only $169.00. I just finished hooking everything up and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Talk about quality! Canon has it all over Epson. I will stick with Canon from now on and recommend it to everyone I know. Just thought I would pass it on.

I'll just echo what everyone else sems to have had with their Epson CX5200 ink. I had gone for short spurts without using the printer (which I've been quite happy with since buying it about 1 1/2 years ago). The print was coming out with blank lines within printed lines. At first nozzle cleanings seemed to work, but eventually I was cleaning the nozzles repeatedly with little improvement. Finally it would not print at all (even after changing ink cartridges).

I figured the nozzles were probably clogged, but couldn't figure out how to fix them. I almost made a $10 call to Epson, which I suspect would not have helped the situation - and someone told me about your site. I ordered the cleaning solution, and tried it. Checked it a few hours later, and there was definite improvement, but still some blank lines in the print. Cleaned the sponge pads once more, and did the additional step which was recommended of applying the solution to the actual cones where the cartridges sit in the print carriage. Tried printing again, and it's back to normal.

Thanks for the solution, and for saving me the cost of a new printer! Glad to have plenty left in the bottle should thi shappen again!

I changed blue magenta and yellow and suddenly no color. I changed black a month ago -it's working; I looked at cleaning hose - it's ok. Any guesses- I'm stumped

Last week our EPSON CX5200 started printing "blank" pages even though the black cartridge was at 80% and the color cartridges were at 20%. After performing several head cleanings and alignments I decided to buy new cartridges. Until the other day I had only used EPSON brand but this time I opted for the Office Depot brand. It's printing but I'm having problems with the quality like everyone else. I spent about 2 hours last night running through cleanings and alignments.

After reading these posts I will check to see if anything is disconnected. Otherwise, I think I'm going to just go buy a new printer. I hate having to spend the money (especially since I just bought new cartridges) but it isn’t worth any more of my time.

My CX5200 starts printing but in the middle of the first page it just stops, the dipslay says "Printing..." all the time and it just stays like that forever. If I try to cancel the job for the printer it says "Canceling..." and just stays like that until you power it off. I searched the net but nothing, does anyone have an idea what could it be or perhaps someone had the same problem.

I can't believe i've bought such a crappy unreliable printer.
If you put more than 30 sheets in it and print you have to watch it all the time and check the quality. the thing is more high maintenance than my wife.

My ink level indicators on the pc are now greyed out so god knows how much ink is left! I know, i'll just have to sit and watch it! as usual

This tip worked for my CX5400 too. Same silly tube fell out of its place. I took mine apart--just removed the white plastic shell. But there are two rear hidden screws under the hinge assembly. Once you get those, you can easily reach the tube assembly. I removed the spring loaded thingy--along with the spring--and reattached the tube.

Thanks!

I have replaced my black ink cartridge and get nothing. I used to get scattered lines when I first replaced it, but after several head cleanings and nozzles checks all I have to show for it is 25% of the ink is gone! I ran my document in green and other colors and they print fine so it is just the black. Unfortunately I don't see my professor accepting a thesis paper in hunter green or deep purple. Anyone have an idea? I have a lot of work ahead of me this spring to not have the black work.

The fallen tube can also clog your printhead. So its not 100% guaranteed that connecting the tube back will help.

I say that if you have bought this machine. Contact Epson.
If you havent bought it. Contact Epson.

If it pisses you off. Contact Epson.
If you want to scream or kill someone. Contact Epson.

In USA they have replaced many CX models. So please, contact Epson and scream.

Hi, I try to replace the ink cartrages on my 5200 and when I open the lid, the cartrage carrier stays in the right corner. How do I get the damn thing to the point where I can replace them?

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Sado (7/26/06 5:45 AM) reply + / -
Anonymous, what will that solve? Um... nothing?

Re: Re: Epson cx5200 can't remove cartrages by Anonymous (7/26/06 7:15 AM) reply + / -
There is an option on the menu to 'change ink cartridges'. This makes the printer automatically move the print head to the center so that you can access the print cartridges.

Use the right arrow button on your display until you find this option. Then press the 'color copy' button. The printer will move the print head and then you can open the printer to change the cartridges. Done.

My Epson Cx5200 stopped printing. I once reconnected the loose tube, which helped. But now, with the tube still connected the printer still wont print. Before it totally stopped producing printouts, the black prints gradually turned gray. And then then i could only print in colored, but after a couple printing the colors turned into magenta and finally the final blank print. What could have happened? And what should i do to solve this irritating problem. Emailed Epson. The answer was call the tech support which is long distance and i have to pay since the warranty is long ended. Please reply.

I checked the tube inside the printer again and found out that the tube was totally dry. obviously, no ink is getting inside or being transported. Any idea why this happened? I tried cleaning the nozzle and everything, but without the ink going through how would i know if there were clogged parts. Can anyone tell me why no ink could go through the tube?

I've changed the ink cartridges twice and did many head cleaning and print nozzle checks, but still to my frustration, the printer goes through the motion of printing and no ink is on the paper. Can anyone help with some ideas. thanks

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Anonymous (9/27/06 1:05 PM) reply + / -
Epson is making a fortune by shutting down the CX5200 printer before the ink cartridges are completly empty.

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by anonymous (9/30/06 1:20 PM) reply + / -
Boy! I wish I had read all these issues before buying my CX5800F. Not that this model was mentioned here but I am having the same problems everyone else is after changing ink cartridges.

What I'd like to know is, how in the heck do ya get the cover off this thing. I can access 3 of 4 screws that hold it together. The cover has 1 screw (on the right) exposed on the hinge that allows me to pop that side up but the left side hinge is sealed.

I managed to get the print head out and clean that up - can force water through using a syringe and see the mist/spray coming through evenly and through all holes on the face so it's not clogged. I tried to check to see if that hose everyone's talking about has come disconnected but the assembly doesn't lift high enough to see it and I don't want to force it - I see springs under it and if one pops off, I'll be screwed since I can't get the dang thing apart.

As for the warranty, I noticed some were writing about the sh*tty customer service Epson provides. I was told when I purchased this unit, WITH an extended warranty that all's I had to do if it broke down was bring it in and they'd replace it with another, no questions asked.

What's up with the upgrade offer I've seen some of you mention on here?

I'm beginning to think purchasing this printer was a mistake although I did manage to print out some pretty nice photos with it of our recent vacation. I never got to finish since I ran out of ink which was when all this started. Now I can't print anything and I'm about ready to sledge it. Maybe I'll just aggravate myself even more and try to bring it back only to be told of this upgrade deal. I just want another printer and considering the $$ paid for this one, I most definitely don't want to spend any more to get one. I just bought the damn thing in May.

UGH!!

Re: Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Anonymous (10/2/06 12:23 PM) reply + / -
Well, I'm back again. Of course I called to find out how to proceed with getting a replacement and disappointment quickly grew into frustration, aggravation, and disgust with the level of customer service.

Expecting to be able to simply return to the store I purchased it at, being a 4 month old printer (I purchased it on 5/1/06), I was told that I have to fill out an online claim form that could take up to 6 days to process. From there, an empty box would be sent (another 3 days at least) where I would then pack the defective printer in it and send it back using the provided, pre-paid shipping label (another 3 days for them to receive it). Once they received it, they would send another one back (another 3 days at least for me to receive it). I figure a best case would be that I'd have to wait 12 days to receive another printer. ABSURD!!

Considering this printer was JUST PURCHASED 4 frigging months ago, I wondered why I couldn't simply bring it back to the store I purchased it from and exchange it. It would be a lot simpler (the store is only 10 mins away) and I'd have another printer TODAY, not 12 days from now. It is rediculous to have to wait 12 days for another unit. When I was in the store buying it and paid for it, I didn't have to wait 12 days to come back and pick it up, did I? Nope - they gladly took my money and I walked out of the store, printer in hand.

Never again... I wouldn't recommend ANY Epson printer ever and it's a safe BET I'd never purchase another one again.

I've only had the f'n thing a few months. I am so pissed!

Alright!! I've fixed my own CX5200 printer.
Tube was a pain to get back on, then used
the ink resetter, then after several nozzle
checks and head cleanings and finally got it
to print something, when before, no black or
color even with new cartridges, it wouldn't
print a spot, but for now, it's working, again.

Thanks

I had the same problems with my CX5200 that many people have mentioned in this forum (black printhead partially clogged, blue printhead completely clogged, and multiple head cleaning cycles did not solve the problem), and was angry and frustrated with what I consider to be a poor hardware design. And I am almost 3 years out of warranty.

But when I emailed Epson support a few weeks ago, they told me to call technical support (562-276-4382), who transferred me to Customer Service after I explained that multiple head cleaning cycles did not solve my problem. The lady in Customer Service gave me 3 options: take it to a service center for repair (at my expense), buy a new model using a discount she would specify, or send the printer back to them using a prepaid FedEx label, and they would fix it and return it to me, at no expense to me. Guess which one I chose!

I expected to get my old printer back, but in less than a week they sent me what appears to be a reconditioned CX6000, which works fine. From what I can tell, the CX6000 uses the same ink-charging system as the CX5200, so I won't be surprised if I experience clogged printheads down the road, but maybe the CX6000 has a better design than the CX5200. But for now, I'm delighted Epson was willing to replace my defective printer. Of course I had just bought new print cartridges, so if anyone has a CX5200 that still works, email me and I'll send you a generic black cartridge, unopened. The 4 cartridges I removed from my old CX5200 before shipping it back to Epson leaked all over the place, and I threw them out when the CX6000 arrived. Luckily I put them in a plastic bag, but what a dumb design.

So for those of you having trouble with a CX5200, it can't hurt to call Tech Support and/or Customer Service, and see what happens.

Re: Epson cx5200 ink problems by Farmer Bill (11/12/06 8:06 AM) reply + / -
I spoke too soon.
Do NOT let Epson send you a CX6000!

It appears there have been lots of problems with the ink cartridges.

http://www.pacificink.com/blog/2006/08/29/epson-stylus-cx5000-cx6000/

And it's such a new model that generic replacement cartridges are not yet available. So be prepared to cough up about $50 for genuine Epson ink cartridges when yours run dry.

Hello,
I found this thread a few weeks back and I had similar issues with my CX5200. I received this printer as a gift 9 months ago. Talked to Epson support and they tried to charge me money to talk to them (9.95) and said my printer was out of warranty. I explained I had been on several websites and MANY MANY folks are having the same issue with this printer. I also mentioned I had heard about a class action suit against them for problems with the printers. Anyhow, long story short, the tech tried to help me fix it over the phone doing things I had already tried MANY times. After all of this she said I could keep my printer that was broken and they were sending a replacement via Fedex. I think the mention of the class action suit and that I had seen many other folks with this problem might have helped (Who knows, but the tech changed her tune after I mentioed this). Those of you out there with this printer can get it replaced if you stick to your guns I think. It is the right thing for Epson to do. If they had not done this I would not buy another Epson product, but they handled my situation to my satisfaction so now I would consider purchasing more of their products.

Can no longer turn on the unit. Pressing the Power button does not turn on the unit, and if I hold the button down, the error light will quickly flash and then nothing.??? On occasion, the unit WILL turn on, and the unit will work, BUT perhaps only for a minute or two (and then shut down) - almost like the vibration of the unit is causing something to disconnect. Sorry, that's the only way I explain that.
I checked to power cord in the back, and the power button on the front, and suspect a loose connection somewhere. I have 3 printers and this is my fav, and I would like the opportunity to hopefully repair the unit, if I knew it would possibly be the power button. I could purchase a dead unit and salvage/replace the control panel.
Appreciate your comments / help. Thanks in advance

Paper feed roller alignment appears to be the problem, however all that Epson's tecnical support offered was take it to a repair shop.
My question is, what adjustment can I make with little technical guidance for getting at the feed rollers.
With thanks in advance,

Is it too late to still get them to replace my printer...I had called customer relations today after being reffered to them by tech support and the customer relations guy I was in contact with was extremely rude and uncooperative. If i were to mention the class action lawsuit that was made against them, do you think it would help sway them into solving my problem?

Hi There, I have a very similar problem with my CX5800. (The lights come on and then off again). Intermittently on for a few seconds, but they will flash if you hold the button down.

Did you ever find what the issue was with your problem?

Thanks-

Never did get a solution. But I did call Epson, and after bugging them for awhile, they were kind enough to offer me a "one time repair" option, even though it was out of warranty. They said if they couldn't repair, that they would send me the next newer model.
I did receive a brand new cx6000 in return.

Good Luck, and try calling Epson.
