hp officejet d135 by PENNY (8/6/03 7:06 PM) reply + / -
turn it all>displays selftest>initializing> then all lights start flashing and it tells me to turn the printer off then back on.. do so only to receive the same message and flashing lights

it does not make any of the usual startup functions/noise/motions. I have unplugged it and allowed it to sit for a bit and still the same results...
please help.. single mom of 5 divorced(bought the printer for mega bucks during the divorce, but do not have the money to take it for repair.. (my wages just reentering the work force is 7.50).. I NEED MY COPIER/PRINTER for ongoing court hearings... hopefully i will get some additional funds in the house, but I need the printer to be able to afford the upcomming court proceedings.....Thanks

I have experienced the same symptoms with my printer. I took it to a repair shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. I Emailed HP about it and they didn't provide anything that helped.
I tried a hack which worked a few times to get the printer started. I pressed Enter while pressing the power button. Sometimes it allows the self test to complete and the printer comes on. Whenever it is turned off or looses power, it goes back to the flashing thing.
Hope this helps

HP calls this a partial reset. There is nothing to loose by trying it if Dave's method does not work.

1. Turn the unit off and unplug the power cord.
2. From the front panel keypad, press and hold # and 3.
3. While holding both buttons, plug in the power cord. Continue holding both buttons until the reset displays in the window.
4. Release both buttons.

Bert,
Thi partial reset is what the HP folks emailed me to try. I tried the partial reset several times and still got the flashing lights. I tried it again after receiving your email and got the same results. Thanks for the help anyway.

My previous reply did not post.. I will try and edited version now.

Hp sent out new power supply, did not work. RMA the print unit.. this worked.

Return shipping label for the non working unit did not make it to me with the printer replacemet. after numerous calls to HP, canceling my credit card(HP took info as security that the old unit would be returned to them) still had not received return shipping label by the original return by deadline. HP attempted to charge my canceled card for the old unit. I call HP Canada and received return shipping label immediately and was told they would investigate the fact that I had called many times for the return ship label and never received it and that attemp to charge me for unit(which was not documented on their system) as a matter of fact they could not find anything on my case number. The original service calls were handedled "overseas".. anyway.. I was unable to get my printer working using HP support which included all of the above and more.

If you call HP for support DOCUMENT EVERYTHING, names services request and case numbers etc.

Hi Bert,
I'm having the same "scanner failure" error on the d135, brought it to the shop, was told they couldn't repair it. He couldn't get a replacement part.( whatever he needed I don't know ) . I still can use it, but I have to reset ( turn off and on ) the printer several times a day. Cleaning glass and mirror has no effect. Is it possible to override the scanner option so I can use the d135 only as network printer ?? You have any ideas or suggestions?

Originally, I asked for help in fixing the repeating 'scanner failure' message I was getting over and over again. Thanks for the sugestion of cleaning the mirror glass. Unfortunately, it didn't help. Do you have another fix or as I was reading from other comments, do you know what the part is that is the problem?

I have an hp officejet d135 and recently experienced the dreaded scanner error. I purchased the machine in April of'02, and I can honestly say that I would never buy an HP printer again. HP customer service, even while under the service guarantee period was less than steller, and now it appears as though they have a common failure mode in this series of printer that is not fixable. I guess I'll write it off as a $500 lesson learned. DON'T BUY HP PRINTER PRODUCTS.

Hey i have a Officejet D135 at home. it prints well enough (idk about fax b/c i never use it) but the scanner is a piece of crap. when i try to use it it gives me a "cannot connect to the PC" error message...I checked the USB connection and it was fine and all of the devices where fully installed so it shouldnt have a problem communicating w/ the PC BUT! when i made my PC check for a hooked up/not installed scanner in the control panel nothing should up... wtf! anyways a reply would be greatly appreciated if you have anything at all to say even if its "f**k it and just go and buy a new scanner, just not another HP!" ^_^'

Your situation looks grim. Here is two things you can try, but go look at your checkbook balance while they are in process because you will probably need it.

1. Do a reset by holding in buttons # and 3 while plugging in the power.

2. Completely uninstall and reinstall the drivers. There is probably a program group that includes an uninstaller, or running the install disk may give you an uninstall option.
