 | HP 1100 fuser problem? by David (4/25/03 6:11 PM) reply | + / - | A friend wanted me to look at her HP laser jet 1100 printer. She said she was "trying to put a transparency through and it never came out."
It prints, but sounds like there is some paper or a transparency stuck in there. Also, the toner does not stick on real well in some places. Some places the toner smears, other places it's on right. Also, the output has "spots" in some places.
I removed the paper output assembly and could see the rollers/fuser (?) better, with some paper stuck to the bottom roller.
Any suggestions on getting the green/grey caps off the side, or any other tips for opening up the printer and replacing the fuser (if that's the problem) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I have to disagree with you re difficulty, however while I really like working on the 1100's they are only for genuine plastic benders like myself. I suggest that you replace the fuser on a Lexmark Optra E+, then consider the same job on the LJ-1100. I think you will agree with me when I say the LJ-1100 is easy compared with the Lexmark.:-)

 | Re: HP 1100 fuser problem? by moe (4/27/03 8:30 PM) reply | + / - | I consider the 1100 too difficult for the average person to repair. That's the one we aim our kits at. If you think the Lexmarks are difficult, try one of the new Brothers. I won't let either one in the shop anymore. In the old days, I'd work on anything. I've got enough work now that I can be more selective. Besides, I hate seeing the things sit around for a month or two waiting for parts while the customer complains about lack of a printer.

 | Re: HP 1100 fuser problem? by Jonathan Lowe (4/29/03 1:30 PM) reply | + / - | When you say "New Brothers", your not referring to the HL-1030 to HL-1470 type, you must be thinking of something else that's not come my way. I've been foolish enough to do both a 1030 and now one of the 1240's, while there incredibly easy to work on, they simply are not worth the effort. Even though they strip down and re-build very quickly, it's still cheaper to buy a new one than repair a used one.
Haven't had to do any work on any of the big HP's yet. LJ-4+ ok but so far no work on an III or 4 Si or any of the 5Si's or 8100, I'm really looking forward to that.:-)

 | Re: HP 1100 fuser problem? by Poxboy (10/16/03 1:39 PM) reply | + / - | Have an 1100 in my office that needs a new pressure roller. Thought they were like the HP 5/6L's, but am having difficulty figuring out how the heat roller comes off - there is no little metal tab that I can hold with my flathead! Any comments are SINCERELY appreciated.

 | Re: HP 1100 fuser problem? by moe (10/16/03 3:35 PM) reply | + / - | The fixing heater assembly is held in by a couple of spring latches. They're a lot easier to remove than to get back in. The pressure roller is a nightmare to remove and real easy to break something. That printer was not in any way engineered for Do-it-yourself repair.
