4si powersave mode by tom jobe (3/29/03 5:15 PM) reply + / -
Hello Everyone,
Bought a HP 4si today at the TRW swapmeet (down the street from Moe's place) to upgrade my friends 3si to 600 dpi from 300 dpi. As we were loading this monster into my car, our hero Moe walked up and talked to us a bit, told us about his website and was quite surprised that we already knew who he was. Hey, it's tough to be famous Moe!
Got the 4si home and cleaned it up a little, and was able to (barely) print out a test page.
My question today is: how do you get the powersave feature to show up on the "job menu" like the HP 4si users manual says it will? The "job" menu only shows 3 things, (pageprotect, resolution, and timeout) on both the test page and from the control panel.
Anyone got any ideas on this deal?
thanks, tom jobe....

Two things you need to check. Both trays have to be installed to enable Powersave. Not all 4si models had Powersave. There is a SIMM kit to upgrade the older models.

Newly manufactured HP LaserJet 4Si and 4Si MX printers are Energy Star compliant as of January 3, 1994. Energy Star compliant HP LaserJet 4Si and 4Si MX printers are designed to conserve electricity by dropping from 1100 W while printing, to 240 W when in standby mode, then to less than 45 W in Power Save mode. Indicators of this compliancy are:

Different serial numbers, beginning with USDB.
An Energy Star label on the outside of the box.
An Energy Star label is located near the power cord at the rear of the printer.

Moe,
Thanks for the powersave info. This 4si was made in 1993 so it just doesn't have this feature as your info points out. This is the first 4si I have ever messed with so I studied the manual, I could see something was goofy because in the manual they talk about powersave being on the "job" menu, yet their sample test page did not show powersave on the "job" menu. The fact that not all 4si's had the feature explains it.
Thanks for hosting this forum, I enjoy it
tom jobe...
