IBM 4029 010 by Jonathan Lowe (3/24/03 2:00 PM) reply + / -
Hi Moe,

I have one of the above in for service and it gives a 922 error code that indicates a fuser fault. However the lamp it OK, it's the thermal fuse that's blown. Remembering my problem with a LJIII with a simmilar fault, and it being an AC PSU fault - fuser safty board blown - I am wondering if I may encounter a simmilar problem with the 4029, ie, a blown AC power supply causing the fuser to overheat burning the thermal fuse.

Most likely the PSU is fine, David Belton knows the lexmarks well, see what he has to say.

I've replaced a few of those fuses. It's normally just the fuse that blows. Never had to replace an AC power supply. The plastic fuse holders get brittle from the heat, they'll break as soon as you remove the fuse. You can probably get by without them. I think I have some laying around somewhere. The fuse is a 182 degree fuse you can get in any electronics store. Radio Shack carries them, but I think theirs is a little higher rated and of course a lot more expensive.

I've never seen a power supply cause this in a 4029. I have however, seen a broken thermistor retainer cause the thermistor to move away from the heat roller, causing the lamp to stay on too long overheating and blowing the fuse. The heat rollers don't seem to hold up very well after they've been overheated. In this case, I'd recommend swapping the entire fuser.

Can anyone help.
I've got an IBM 4029 010 laser printer, and I get the following error code: 922 service , which I found out means fuser error. I'm not sure where to start looking. I've dabbled with electronics for some years, but would apprecaite some help with my printer.
Steven.

You can start by reading this thread. It pretty much covers your problem.

I thought this thread was dead, still havn't fixed my 4029, just need to get a thermal fuse to do the job. Since having a look at the fuser assembly on the 4029 I've found quite a few printers that use a simmilar type of device rather than canons effort on III's and IV's.

I was organizing stuff and found one the other day. It's a genuine IBM one with the leads on it and everything. All you need do is ask.

Oh boy, that's exactely what I need, any chance you've got the thermister as well. Do please let me have it, what price, how do I order.

Ps: You've sent me parts before.

I don't have any new thermisters. Might be able to cannibalize an old one. Email me for ordering info. I remember having sent you stuff before.

Hi Moe,

I definately want the thermal fuse and if you've got a thermister as well I would like that also. Now I need the paper jam kit for an LJ-4L also a fuser sleve, just wondering if you would include both the above in the package and charge it accordingly, don't need video for fitting:-)

Hi Moe, Just wondering if you have fallen foul of my attempts to avoid spam. I would also like a fuser sleeve for an LJ-4L if one is available.

I have a power supply replaced on my IBM 4029 020. However, for the second time, the printer prints a few pages and then stops to power on. Prior to this, the LCD display flickers and fades away as if to indicate an intermitent connection. I am using a new toner. The printer itself prints well without any problem.

Sometimes the LED indicators turn on however the LCD display is blank, 20 -30 secs later the LED's turn off as well. Can anyone help ?

To ensure that your enquiry gets the attention it deserves it's best to start your own new thread, if you tag on to my old thread from two weeks ago you will never get an answer. Ask a new question.

when I turn on my printer and it tests itself it gives me a "941 service" reading on my led screen and I cant get it to show a menu when I push the buttons or anything...anyone have any ideas whaT I need to do with this one?

Re: IBM 4029 010 by david belton (6/28/03 3:40 PM) reply + / -
A 941 error indicates a failure in the printer ROM. On some of the lexmark printers, it is a large SIMM on the system board. I think that, on the 4029 however, is is actually on the system board.

I have the same error 922 service on my 4029-030. Where can I find this fuse ?

Re: IBM 4029 010 by moe (7/2/03 9:07 AM) reply + / -
If your remove the top cover of the fuser (2 screws) you'll see the fuse on top. It's wrapped in some gold colored plastic. You can do a resistance check across the ends. You should get a continuity reading.

Re: IBM 4029 010 by Rene (7/20/03 2:46 AM) reply + / -
The fuse gives continu reading. Resistance 0 ohm. So the fuse seems ok. The halogeen lamp in the normally hot pressurerol dos not turn on and gives no resistance at all. Could this lamp be broke?

Re: IBM 4029 010 by moe (7/20/03 1:18 PM) reply + / -
That would be the problem. If you're interested in tackling the replacement of the lamp, we do stock them. The fuser isn't that easy to remove, especially getting the 2 back screws out. If you want to try it, email me for pricing and shipping info. The lamp isn't available in 240V, only 120V.
