 | LaserWriter Select 360 streaking on every page by scot_cr (12/7/02 6:08 PM) reply | + / - | Hi, I just bought a used LaserWriter Select 360 and after only 5 or so clean copies I started getting two pairs of equally spaced streaks printing down the entire length of every copy I then made. I replaced the toner cartridge but am still getting the same thing. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

It's easy enough to tell. Pull the cartridge out and flip open the drum protective shutter. If you see the streaks on the drum, bad cartridge.

I looked at the drum of both cartridges and didn't notice anything. BUT I just put the old cartridge in the printer and the lines showed up on the printed pages much darker. I put the new cartridge back in and got the fainter lines I had been getting since first using it.
I printed 20 copies at a time a couple different times with the new toner cartridge installed, and it seems the lines are getting a little lighter, but not much. I wonder if the lines will dissapear after printing a few hundred pages... ack!

We still haven't determined if it's a new sealed remanufactured cartridge or a new OEM one. The drum wiper blades will go bad just sitting around. The fact that the symptoms change with the different cartridges are proof that the cartridge is causing the problem, not the fuser.

Computer store said needs cleaning, the cartridge is not the problem. Is this something I can do?

If you tried 27 remanufactured cartridges and they all streaked, I'd tell you that you got 27 bad cartridges. I've been in the cartridge remanufacturing business and the laser printer repair business for 12 years. I can troubleshoot printers better from here than most printer techs can standing in front of them.
