Color Laserjet 3550 Print Quality Problems by cotswoldcondo (11/20/09 12:07 PM) reply + / -
I ran the "Clean Printer" page and all is OK except that there are speckled bands from top to bottom about 1/4 inch from each long edge. I need possible causes and solutions.

Go to the diagnostics menu on the printer and print the pq troubleshooting pages. See if one of the toners has an issue and that is the cause most times. If the toner is bad it can not be repaired and will have to be replaced.

PQ troubleshooting shows perfect pages except for the cyan speckles down the left side of the paper. The cyan cartridge is new, so I am looking for an option that does not require me to spend $120 dollars for another one. Any ideas on how to clean the cartridge or otherwise remove the defect?

No other option then to replace the cyan toner. If hp bring it back to where you purchased it. HP will no longer replace toner cartridges when you call them unless they were bought directly from hp. The expect their vendors to honor the warranty. If not hp, then you are at the mercy of the vendor. If hp and the vendor will not replace it then I would call hp to find out how to get warranty service when their vendor will not honor the warranty.

The whole HP only will honor their warranty if the toner was bought directly from them thing is pretty insane.

Hypothetically, If you bought a replacement toner from HP Directly, and called them to tell them the one you just bought from them was defective, they will sent you a replacement.

Perhaps the one you send back to them was mistakenly mixed up and you send them back the current defective one you have now.

It seems as if you'd end up with two good toners and HP would end up with the defective toner, the one they should have honored the warranty on in the first place.
