 | HP LJ 4250, Error 13.20 ... again by Koen (11/17/09 8:53 AM) reply | + / - | (First, I am a printer technician for about 20 years now)
Anyone ever had to replace the top-of-page sensor (PS103) ???
Original problem was Error 13.02 Paper Jam in top cover area. Cleaned out anything, ALL sensors arms are moving freely, especially the pre-feed sensor arm (PS102), it's installed correctly, I know about the postion of the spring.
Replaced the paper feed assy : same problem Replaced the registration assy and then it went wrong... After powering up the printer again I started to push the engine test button. Printer was producing the engine test prints as should be, about 10 sheets. In the mean time the formatter was starting up and after a while the display showed up the ready state. Then, asking any internal page resulted in a "processing job" message but nothing was printed, no action at all. Power cycled the machine : no engine activity anymore, but printer goes to ready.
Replaced the DC Controller and printer is operating again. I have made 100 testprints, suddenly error 13.20 appears...
Anyone with experience here ?

 | Re: HP LJ 4250, Error 13.20 ... again by Anonymous (11/17/09 2:05 PM) reply | + / - | Set of rollers behind the MP Tray assy with clutch has caused this paper jam error for me in the past as well as registration assy but if you already replace registration I would replace p/n: RM1-0012-020CN Paper feed roller assembly and be done with it.
Good Luck, Tech for 10 years!

 | Re: HP LJ 4250, Error 13.20 ... again by Sharpie (edited 11/17/09 3:20 PM) reply | + / - | I had to replace the top cover once because the sensor flags were warped or bent & causing problems, I don't remember the exact problem or error though. Its the only way I found to get those flags besides scraping a used printer for them, haven't found em separately yet.
Top Cover Assm is part # RM1-1081-000CN
I'm sure you know as I do the sensor themselves hardly have problems unless they get damaged by the customer somehow. Those though are usually easy to scrap from an old printer even if not the same model to do a quick test with. I've swiped some from old 4000 fusers already to replace some that the pin/cable connector was damaged. Most times they have the same connection type & look the same. I read though that PS102 & PS103 are soldered on so can't replace easily without replacing the transfer assm (see link below talks briefly about it on pg.2)
You did say something about you had some problems after replacing the registration assm. Both the sensor flags appear okay? Was the part # RM1-1098? that is backward compatible to the older 4200/4300 too) & has 2 notches on it. The original 4200/4300 registration had only 1 notch on top & isn't compatible with the newer 4250/4350s. Here's a link showing the difference. http://www.lbrty.com/tech/ta42xxregtran.pdf

 | Re: HP LJ 4250, Error 13.20 ... again by Koen (11/18/09 7:21 AM) reply | + / - | The missing notch in the replacement Registration Assy was the culprit. So not only PS102, PS103 & PS108 can result in an error 13.20 also the paper-width sensors #1 & #2 (PS106 & PS109) can. In my case it was PS109.
I have spent many-many hours on disassembling and reinstallation. (sigh)
Thanks Sharpie !

 | Re: HP LJ 4250, Error 13.20 ... again by Koen (11/24/09 1:24 PM) reply | + / - | And again, the original problem : Error 13.02 Paper Jam in top cover area. Sometimes it goes fine for a 1000 pages and more, then suddenly every page jams with error 13.02, mostly followed by error 41.3 It both jams with tray 2 and 3, never (so far) with tray 1. It jams with 1 page printjobs as well. Jammed page is always partly under the cartridge and partly in the fuser, but not always exactly on the same place.
