HP 1505n laser printer streaking - options? by printhound (11/4/09 5:37 PM) reply + / -
My HP 1505n laser printer is streaking on the far right edge of the page.

I saw a tech at my old workplace take some compressed air once and spray the roller and it blew away the toner in that case, but I tried it and the toner remains in a circle on the roller. The roller I'm talking about is greenish, and has a cover over it whenever I take the cartridge is out of the printer.

For awhile the streak would appear, and my solution was to empty the extra toner basket area - the place where extra used(?) toner accumulates. But that doesn't work anymore.

Since it is on the very edge of the page, and I don't think it can really print anything over there anyway, could I take a cloth and wipe off the greenish roller? There is a cloth that attracts toner very nicely, supplied with my toner recharge kit. As long as I was **real** careful not to touch any other part of the roller, do you think that would work?

Thanks.

Ah yes, another victim of the burn 'n fill scam. What they don't tell you is that stuff in the cartridge wears out, like the photoconductive drum and the wiper blade that is supposed to clean it. I suppose you could ask them if they sell wiper blades or you could spring for another cartridge.

Yeah, I know about parts wearing out. What I read was that a new cartridge could be refilled 3 times before needing an overhaul. This cartridge is on refill 1.7, so a little early for part replacements. And except for that edge of toner deposits, it works great.

The other thing I would really like to learn is how to replace those parts Moe mentions, and any other "replaceable" parts. I found a book for $87 about it once, but was wondering if anyone knows a less expensive way. I have an old cartridge. I could just try it I guess. Or is there a site that explains the process?
