DELL 1700 - jams by default then reprints OK by al beilek (8/7/09 6:53 AM) reply + / -
hi everyone,
got a problem with a Dell 1700 laser printer. i had to print 10 single page documents. so i go on and start printing but here's what happened with all documents. again, they are all one-pagers. the first attempt is always a jam and the fan goes crazy. when i clean the path it prints OK and fan noise goes down. basically i had to reprint all 10 docs since all 10 jammed by default and continue to jam. this never happend before.

specifics:
1. if i use the straight path the paper comes out about 2 inches and then stops
2. if i use the curved path it never comes out.
3. the rollers are cleaned
4. the sensor latch at the back is present and flexible

any ideas.

thanks,

al beilek

Could be the fuser going bad. The fan reving might be an idication of that. What is the page count?

page count is in excess of 26.500.

this was a re-marketed item looking like new, which i assumed meant major parts are working fine. and it actually printed some 1000 pages but every day i had a different issue. and these problems, man, they never reoccurred for the 3-day period i owned it.

every day a new trick - one day would be a curled jam in the paper tray - every first page of a document, next day mixing page sequence in manual duplex, etc.

i had hoped it would be something i could troubleshoot but in my experience had no other choice but to return it and put my money in a new printer.

in any case fixyourownprinter.com was helpful.
thanks to MichaelTech as well. appreciate it.

cheers,
al beilek
