 | HP laserjet 3330 by helenl8 (6/19/09 12:03 PM) reply | + / - | Have loved this printer for almost 7 years. Real workhorse, but now the adf jams. Paper seems to veer to the left, jam and crumple. Can this be fixed by a tech challenged person or do I need a service call. Can anyone advise as to which parts I might need?
Thanks.

What you describe is always caused by a small scrap of paper that got left behind when someone aggressively cleared a paper jam. It would be on the side that is late in feeding into the printer. In the shop, we never take them apart, we use this tool http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/specials/misc/tools/S96 for pushing out the scraps of paper. It's basically just a flexible piece of stiff plastic. You can also usually accomplish the same result using a piece of file folder and push it along the paper path. If the jam isn't too severe, that will push out the offending scrap of paper.

look inside especially the u-turn area. you can also lift the scanner lid to look from the underside of the u-turn.
you'll be looking for not just pieces of paper, but also things like paper-clip, pins or stapler :)
any young children at home? they like to put stuff into machines. you'll be surprised what you'll find.......

If I cut a piece of paper so that it feeds only in the middle --that is it is narrower-- it goes right through. There is something jamming to the left. It could be a staple, but I don't know how to get at it. I ran a strip of file folder along the paper path (since I don't have that tool, but nothing happened. Maybe I'm not doing it properly.

Kids are a good source of revenue in the Printer Repair business. If they aren't dropping things into printers, they're yanking them out.

 | Re: HP laserjet 3330 by helenl8 (6/20/09 2:58 AM) reply | + / - | I was convinced that there was something in the adf. I used a thin plastic piece (along the lines of the tool that Moe suggested) many times along the adf and finally I cleared it. My hp now copies as before, Thanks Moe, but the thing that came out was a thin flat O-shaped piece with little teeth facing inward. Wonder where that came from! If it's a part from inside......hmmmmm. I guess, time will tell, but so far the path is clear and all is well. Thanks again. This forum works!
