there is no softwere, that can fix your problem. You can turn page count to 0 only by closing for sec. 3th and 4th contact on 9366 chip on printer mainboard. http://www.ots45.ru/support/samsung1640.html
3th and 4th contacts - two upper right contacts on chip pointed by red arrow. Close them and turn printer on. Hold contacts closed till indicators blinkes once and less then second after they off, and turn printer off quickly. Now turn priner on in normal mode, its conter should by 0. Try to hold contacts closed different time if you foult to reset it.

Solution. u can buy samsung 1640 permant chip to install it. the chip for prnter not for cartridge. then later you can buy ml1610 cartridge to replace the ml1640 cartridge

I faced the same problem,,, but found a solution. I hav a software that resets the page count to zero. If anyone wants the software you can mail me. I purchased it from some site.
Zero cost solution for samsung -scx-4300, ml-2245, ml 1640. It is working permenently. Refill cartridge is working for ever. I am Service provider and completed more than 40 printers of scx-4300 and more than 100 printers 2245, 1640 which is running successfully
that is need to change the toner cartridge I think. If you use permanent chip, you can replace the toner cartridge by samsung 1610 or Xerox PE220 toner cartridge

I opened my new printer box, and before power on, I make the wire connection between 1-4 pin. Then I connected it to the PC, al ALL WOKS FINE, when I power on the printer, the page count is 0. I didnt overwrite the firmware with older versions. The printer come with 1.01.00.78 firmware. If somebody read this post and his printer is a NEVER USED NEW PRINTER, do this before power on.
HOw do you access the circuit board to do this chip-shorting thing? And, on a related subject, how do I refill the cartridge? Looking at I don't see an obvious place to open it.
Does shorting pins 1&4 work only for the original cartridge or replacement cartridges as well? If it does not work with replacement cartridges, is it possible to transplant the important parts from a replacement cartridge to the starter cartridge after the starter cartridge has worn out?
My Samsung ML-1640 firmware 1.01.00.83 has sofar printed 5615 pages (original cartridge 2100 pages PLUS new Samsung Cartridge 3515 pages = total 5615 pages). Original cartridge was refilled twice and after the third refill it told that "toner exhausted", I bought new cartridge and after third refill it exhibits "toner exhausted". I turned page count to 0 by closing for sec. 3th and 4th contact on 9366 chip on printer mainboard. Though the page count is 0, "Toner Page Count/Toner Remaining/Toner Status" are all replied as "Not Support".

Please fix my printer cartidgefor ML 1640. So far i am able to reset the count but there is no print coming thjrough cpu. only manage to get the complete test page from the computer

Dear friends,,,I did all your suggestions to reseting page counter of ml 1640 such as short circuiting the pins 1 and 4 or 3 and 4 but didn`t success at all and toner light is flashing yet but print done cuz total page count of my printer is 1790 pages.Please tell me what can I do for this problem and also I downloaded firmware1.01.00.60 but I can`t replace new version how is it ? The chip resetter that I`ve bought is an ic which has 4 wires and solded on the eeprom 93c66 on the formatter board.Blue wire to pin 4--orange wire to pin 1--green wire to pin 5--and white wire to pin 8
Then when I turned on the printer and took a self test,the page counter was reseted but with each print the page counting works till the printer became turn off and with a short time distance( appr.1 min)after turning on we will see the page counter is reseted again and this process will remaining.

The Samsung ML 1640 printer uses the mlt-d1082s toner cartridge, which can only print an estimated 1500 pages so a refill is more than welcome. You will need toner and a new chip. There are chips available from manufacturers such as Sky and others. You can also build a strap on the 93C66 memory between pins 1 and 4 but it won`t work forever.

The ML-1640 I purchased nearly a year ago failed; refused to power up. It had printed around 300 pages in all that time. As there were a few days' guarantee remaining I contacted Samsung UK - this morning they replaced the unit.
On being connected to the PC the replacement unit told me that I was out of toner. What a coincidence!!! A 70 printer fails and is replaced by one needing a new cartridge? (Cost varies from 50 to 60 if Samsung).
For the first time I looked at the printed test sheet which had come with the unit; it said that 2100 sheets had been printed and this made me suspicious. Searches all over the web revealed the same story; nearly everybody who had this problem had a machine which had printed 2100 pages. How very odd! (Hope you detect the sarcasm!)
As a retired printer technician I knew what was happening right away. Samsung should be ashamed of themselves.
I hunted around on the web for firmware updates and collected about 5 different ones; none of them worked. Reason? It depends on the date of the firmware in your printer. It's no use putting it back in time!

This Russian site has two firmware patches, the '83 and the '93. I'd already tried the '83 so elected to use the '93. This one worked immediately and I am very pleased.
So...to those who have said here that software (I presume they mean firmware) does not do the job - the answer is it does so long as it is newer than the original. The '93 should serve for everybody for a while.
Messing about with shorting links should be treated as a last resort and should only be attempted by somebody who actually knows how to do this and not just how to switch on a soldering iron and undo a couple of screws - I mean this seriously.
This is a good forum. I think I shall enjoy it here.
Exactly what I said; and I was at pains to point out that I was speaking of firmware. At no point did I advocate utilising software! Flashing the firmware is not a software solution, and is decidedly safer for most people.

Hello , Do you have any perfect solution about samsung ml 1640 i have aledy tested 1 and 4 pin short and 3 and 4 also short BUT still not working i have also try frimware upgrade but still same problem i have news there is one software samsung 1640 to convert samsung 1600 and also warraty not left do you have any idea about that pls response me as soon as possible.

Hi all. I like this forum. It helps me with my everyday work. Besides I repair printers and i came across the same problem as "quantum_82" (post above). I have installed an refurbished cartrige for the printer 2240. on the box it was for models 1640/2240, and a cd inside with instructions to run a program... well, it ended up i have flashed the samsung ml2240 printer to a ml1640 and now cant do anything with it.
Basicly, how to flash an ml1640 to be an ml2240. So dose anyone have a solution for this?

Hi, I have a been trying to instal a non genuine cartridge in my printer but it keeps on giving me a feedback that the toner is not installed even though my cartridge is new. ** My original printer firmware was 1.01.00.91 (Toner was Exhausted)
** Could not downgrade to older firmware, bcos firmware newer than 1.01.00.83 doen't allowed it (so, shorting pins 1 & 4 (or 2&3) could not help me)
** Now ( the good news), i have upgraded to 1.01.0093f (patch version) and.. Total Page Count/Toner remaining/Toner Status: 0/100(%)/Normal....(Its sooo beautiful..no more toner exhausted...i can print it now...Buttttt)...
*** the printed output is WEIRD..fonts are too big...doesn't fit in A4 eventhough i have typed document in A4 paper size...and set output paper size to A4...it never print the whole text (some bottom part of the document is always missing)
