I can't find evidence on the HP web site that it's true. Can you technical/repair people tell me if it's really true? Thanx.

It probably is backwards compatible, but a 4000 duplexor wouldn't run in a 4100. A 4100 cartridge will work in a 4000, but a 4000 cartridge won't even go into a 4100.
