HP Color LJ 4600 Yellow Density Problem

HP Color LJ 4600 Yellow Density Problem by sharpie (10/10/07 12:27 PM) reply + / -
I got an unusual problem here on a HP Color LJ 4600. The darkest density of yellow on the config. page (see link below) is mostly missing. This will cause the demo to be off too in color among the customers photo printouts.

The customer uses only OEM cartridges & we took a yellow cartridge from our shop printer out & that one did the same thing.

At first glance I thought it was a bad HVPS but changing that & the color registration detection assm both haven't helped out yet.

I posted the error log too & had noticed it gets a lot of 59.11 errors which I found out the manual I have doesn't have a complete list on this. Order replacement they say is (1) cartridge, (2) color registration detection assm, (3) Laser Scanner, (4) DC Controller.

I wanted to post & get some input before I try a laser scanner, not sure if that could cause this or not. There are a few 51.02 & 41.02 errors listed but they seem to refer to Magenta not yellow. Unless HP messed that up too. I've been leaning toward DC controller first before the scanner but thats why I'm posting.

I'd go with the DC controller, but then I have a bunch left over from upgrades.

The 4600 lasers are interchangeable.

The first thing I would do is but the printer is diagnostics mode and disable cartrdige check. Now run the pq troubleshooting pages which will give a solid fill for each color. Now swap the yellow and the black and run the same pages again. If the black is now light I to would lean towards the laser/scanner and as Stephen points out they are interchangeable so you could swap them to see if the problem follows the scanner. If the black is fine and the yellow is still an issue I hate to tell you but you have a yellow toner issue.

I did forget to post that we did the cartridge disable and swapped positions & it affecting whatever color was in the yellow position.

Sorry it took a while to post back, just been too busy. Anyway swapping laser positions the problem did move, so we got another scanner in & its been working good since.

Thanks for the tips & help.
