machine came up with fuser error 50.1, assumed it was fuser as usual but after installing new fuser, same error. I think it may be bad connection or power board fault, any help would be appreciated to save me time tracing fault.
cheers
roger

It is not that unusual to get a fuser that will be bad on arrival. There is a way to test voltages and resistance on the power supply, but this is what i would call advanced diagnosis. If you would prefer trying this option vs. trying another fuser first let me know and i will try to walk you through it.

On that printer a 50.1 error can also be caused by the low voltage power supply.

50.1 fuser error is covered by an HP service note for this printer. Call HP. They will have you do three things.

1) Reseat the fuser.
2) Check the power supply to the printer (wall socket is what they will want it in, not a power strip or UPS)
3) Cold reset the unit.

If all that fails and the fuser shows as 'OK' on the supply status HP will ship a free one to you, as long as you are the printer owner, for free. This is regardless of the warranty status of the printer as it will be covered under the service note for that error. The service note covers the CLJ 3500, 3550 and 3700 models. The note currently is good until next summer.

You may have to pay $39 to actually get through to tech support if the printer is out of warranty. HP sometimes will refund that IF you ask them. But its done on a case by case basis, so no guarantees on that.
