HP colour 4600 range pickup assy by jONNY5IVE (6/6/07 3:28 AM) reply + / -
Hi all

Having problems with pickup assy for colour 4600 4650 range.

A plastic part has broken on the pickup assy, HP want to charge me for the hole pickup assy, It is a piece of plastic that swings on a pivot and that has broken tried gluing it but no joy. Looked in Manuel can see the part but no part number (cleaver HP). Was wondering if it is possible to buy this part for both printers.

Thanks Jon

Ps Part can be seen in service man. Pg486 chapter 8 Fig 8-14, the part I need is the 5 back from bottom right corner

HP Color LaserJet 4600 Series Paper Pickup Assembly by Stephen (edited 6/6/07 5:05 AM) reply + / -
I think a plastic welding kit might work for repairing the plastic part that breaks on those. I've used a soldering iron to melt the plastic back together when one broke, but it was messy. (that was done to keep the machine running while the part was ordered)

A tech I know has recently told me that he has installed 4600 paper feed assemblies in 4650s and vice versa, I have not tried that myself, but the guy who told me is a good tech.

I do not have a source for that part, but would be interested in finding one, I've seen quite a few break.

Thanks

Have tried soldering iron makes the plastic to brittle it is such a stupid design. About the 4600 to 4650 the plastic part I’m talking about is transferable but that still leaves me withy one dead pickup assy, and for a part that looks like it cost little to replace I’m going to have to buy the hole pickup assy even though all the other parts are good.

Thanks Jon

If you can get the users to remove jams more gently, or pull the paper up to get it out, then I think the part will not break.

The way I weld plastic together is super glue and baking soda. Clean off both surfaces real good. Sand them a bit for better adhesion. Then you put some liquid super glue on the surfaces and press together. Immediately sprinkle some baking soda on the joint. It will get real hot from the chemical reaction and form a type of "instant plastic". You can add more super glue and baking soda to strengthen it or to replace missing sections. I've built whole plastic fingers and shaped them with a file with this procedure.

The thing about HP is that they don't sell individual parts, they sell whole assemblies. If there is an equivalent model in a Canon printer, the parts that are grayed out in the HP manual will have a p/n in the Canon manual. If you look at the Canon LBP 2510 manual, you would be able to find the p/n there. Getting the part in the U.S. would probably be a bit difficult. You would probably have to get it from an overseas supplier since I don't believe that model was sold in the U.S.

Jon, I tried to respond to your email, but it got kicked back for some reason. I've got a part breakout of the Paper Pick-up Assy. and need a copy of the 4600 one with the part circled so I know what you're needing. From your post, I counted 5 up and it looks like you want that ribbed junction guide with the screw to the right of it. If that's not it, you can fax it to me at 866-372-8371. I should be able to get the part for you and anyone else that needs it.

Hi all

Thought you would like to know found part for pickup assy on 4600 range. You have to file some plastic down but it only costs about $2 so worth it, no longer have to replace the entire pickup assy.

Part number is RB2-8306 guide, junction guide

I have a small broken piece of plastic that I think is along the same line as what you are talking about. I don't mind having to buy a whole assembly if that's what's needed, but I need to know for sure.

I have a picture of the broken piece and what it was holding on.

It was located on the bottom of the printer, but I had to remove tray 2 to see it. Is this part of the paper pick up assemby?

I compared the photo to the actual junction guide (we stock them). They don't look the same. That's not the junction guide in the photo so don't order it.

If the guide is the large part at the bottom of the picture, then it's not what's broken. The little black piece broke from inside the priter and holds it in place. If it's not the guide, any idea what it is?

Re: HP colour 4600 range pickup assy by jONNY5IVE (12/12/07 4:56 AM) reply + / -
That is part of the guide it is a swing guide so it is made up of 2 parts but you can order both, and then all you have to do is remove the tonners and unscrew 2 screws holding the pickup assy down. Lift it up from the right hand side( is a bit tricky but it does lift), their is a cable holding it in that runs to the DC controller, but you dont need to remove this the part that is broken is held in by one brass self tapping screw. I dont have time today but will take some pics for you and email them to you. It is definitely that part and it is not hard to change

I ended up replacing the entire paper pickup assembly; however, I'm now getting a paper jam in which ever tray I try to printer to "13.01.00". There is no jam, it never even trys to pick up the paper.

Any ideas? I really need this printer up and running.

I have to admit I erred. That little broken piece came off of the junction guide that held that part in the photo. I didn't read the post correctly. Jonny5ive was correct. Sorry to have misled you.

I figgured if the paper did not even try to pickup it had to be something wrong with the paper pickup assembly I just installed. I removed the toner and had a good look at it and notice a spring on the left side had come loose. Unfortunatly, I could not get the spring back in place with out takin the whol thing appart agai.

Thx for the help.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I've had this same exact thing happen to one of our 4600dn printers. Where does one go to buy the guide part (RB2-8306)? I'm not having much luck finding them online, and I'm not a certified tech so I can't order it through HP parts.

TIA for the help!

To order the part contact Moe, just click on his name in the title bar of one of his posts.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. The junction guide broke apart.

Does somebody know, where to order this part in Germany?
