HP Laserjet 3300 printing problem by ct110 (5/31/07 9:00 PM) reply + / -
Middle of the page is faded out and blanked. A new toner was used but problem is still there. Any solution? thanks

Do a half test by putting a sheet on top of the paper tray in the manual slot and do a self test. When the back edge enters the printer, open the toner door quickly to stop the printing. Now remove the toner and flip back the cover over the toner drum. If the residual image on the drum is light in the middle then the issue is probably contaminated optics where there is dirt or dust on the mirror and needs to be cleaned up. Sometime you can push a qtip thru the shutter opening and slide it accross to clean the optics, but most times the printer needs to be disassembled to get to the laser/scanner mirror. If the image is dark on the drum in the middle, then you have a transfer roller issue.

I was just wondering if this is happening when you are using it as a copier, printer or both

I have done the self test as was told. The image was light in the middle. That means the mirror has to be cleaned? Which part do I have to replace?

It happened to both printing and copying. By the way, I want to know for laserjet 3300 , if the drum unit is combined with the toner unit or two parts are separate. If the drum is combined with the toner, I am thinking whether changing to a new toner unit will help or not.

I saw from ebay that there is a fuser repair film for laserjet 3300. Is that the one i have to get?

The drum and toner are one unit and the issue is NOT the fuser since it happens before the fuser during the half test. Laser/scanner optics most likely cause.

ct110, you don't sound like you know anything about laser printers. so let start with some basic questions first. did you but the toner cartridge from ebay? if you did, the problem could be a faulty toner cartridge. is the toner cartridge a brand new original hp one or a recharged one? a genuin hp cartridge should've come in a hp box. if it's an original hp, it should have a toner seal that you need to remove before putting it into the machine. otherwise you can get the problem you're having. as with the recharged toner cartridge, it depends on the recharger. some would put the seal on and some others don't. the seal should be sticking out one side of the cartridge and you pull to remove.
and as dmzcompute said, your problem is definitely not the fuser film. so if it's not the toner cartridge issue, it would be as what he said above.

seriously

As for cleaning the mirror to fix my problem, is it what was told in the thread "HP 3330-How to Clean Scanner Mirrors"?

My printer is actually 3330 instead of 3300 (my mistake, sorry).

I am confused by the term "mirror"? Is it part of the printer component or you guys are talking about the scanner component?

Re: HP Laserjet 3300 printing problem by moe (6/11/07 12:44 PM) reply + / -
There are mirrors in the laser scanner portion. That is what is responsible for forming the image on the paper. That other thread is for the document scanner part and does not apply. To clean the laser mirrors you would have to remove the document scanner assembly and take the top of the printer off to access the laser scanner assembly below. You would then have to remove the assembly and open the top to access the internals to clean them. Dry q-tip or foam swab to clean, no liquids.
