Overprint / override on HP 2600n toner cartridges by markf (2/7/07 9:35 AM) reply+1 + / -
For those of you who own these printers you probably already know that setting your printer to continue printing after the toner cartridge allows you to squeeze a little extra value from the toner.

I've wondered how much extra is loaded into these cartridges, but so far haven't been able to find anybody who has posted their results.

Therefore I decided to share my own results.

I hit 0% on my black cartridge at 2200 pages, but was able to print to 2661 (based on average coverage of 6%) before I noticed any problems.

If 1% on the counter is equal to 22 pages, I got an addition 20% on the black cartridge.

The cyan cartridge was more interesting. I print a fair bit of cyan (corporate colours) so I hit 0% at approximately 1400 pages (average of 7% coverage). I finally noticed problems at 2196 pages. If 1% = 14 pages then I managed to squeeze an impressive 56% extra from the cyan cartridge! Of course the amount of cyan on different pages is extremely variable (compared to black) so mileage may vary. I do wonder however whether the colour cartridges are deliberately set to run out sooner than the black ones...

How did I know when the toner ran out? Quality degraded very quickly with missing toner on the page, and at the same time toner started to be dumped in a fine spray all over the page. This could possibly have been used toner overflowing?

Anyway, just wanted to share this info in case someone else finds it helpful.

Mark,

It's great to know someone did it. Can you teach us how to do that? Since the toner cartridge are expensive. All 4 cartridge indicator show low, I need some help to get more printing out of them. Thanks.

Charles

RTM!

It's in the User Guide...

It's amazing what you can learn when you Read The Manual.

markf -- you must be a statistition! WOW! my problem is that i do not know how to set my printer to override the "Low toner" message. i order toner from which is all 4 colors for $99 + p & h. a great bargain! their directions say to override, but i still cannot figure it out. they say there is 30% more toner in the cartridge after it stops. that's a lot of ink! the guys in "brother" say to cover the smart chip with black tape to override, and i cant figure where that is either. well! I'M A GREAT-GRANNY, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT! help, please, if you can!
