 | HP LaserJet 4050 smudges & ghost printing by Scruffy (11/26/06 1:25 PM) reply | + / - | Printer was a gift, used, and toner was running near empty. Pages printed out with smudges and ghost printing in a vertical stripe 2" wide down left side of page. New toner cartridge did not solve that problem. When I ran Clean Your Printer from the printer's OWN menu on the machine itself, I had 3 paper jams in a row, and could not reach paper from the rear;had to pull it out from the front. Sorry! The printer prints fine from the computer, no jams, but has the smudges and ghosting. Is there dirt on a roller or something? How do I fix it? Thanks!

When the back edge just enters the printer, open the toner door to stop the printing. Remove the toner and look at the image below. If the smudges and ghosting are present, then it is still the toner. If not there then it is the fuser and most likely the fuser film is torn. Use the kit with the link below:
