We have a Samsung clp-510 printer that is due for a drum replacment and fuser replacment, it was printing like a dream and as it has reached its manufacturer set number of copies no matter if it needs a replacment or not you have to replace the units.
Here in Australia we have replaced the entire printer, its less expensive but what a waste........so we have one working and the old one which was 100% fine sitting in the shed ready for destruction.
I have no issue doing that if the unit is failing or faulty but when it is only because of a manufacturer setting some limit so as to make a buck it is both a pain and a waste
Has anyone an idea how to re set the printer or drum unit, fuser unit to a zero count??????
Thanks in advance

Do you know how to resetthe imaging unit, the fuser and all rollers? There is a hidden maitenance menu in the machine!!! You can enter the menu in this way:
Start up the machine with push in the buttons "online" and "cancel" --You will see the message "Download mode press online key" Press about 15 times the "menu" key --You will see the message "Uncheck consumable mode" Press about 15 times "menu" and 5 times "enter" --You will see "Press access key" Press a few enters Press 3 times "cancel" Go to the EDC mode -- you will see "press access key" Press "cancel" Go to maintenance and initialize the parts you like to reset.
Nice isn't it? (sometimes you have to try a few times; don't wait to long inbetween the steps)

Thanks so far so good BUT the belt........the printer still asks me to replace that....
can anyone help in resetting the counter for the transfer belt, the total image count then we have the think up and running. As for the comment about it breaking, as I see it, you would not bother buying a belt anyway, a new printer with starter toners is about twice the price of the belt only...

Hi there, I am newbie, bought refurbished CLP 510 prints fine, but... little like bleached spots in picture. sometimes more, sometimes less but still some there. Dots are spaced about 35 mm (11/2") apart, on all colors. Looks like some roller (do not know which one) is doing that.
Seller told me that this is a 'ROLLER" problem and not easy to fix. I do not know too much about this printer, but I am electronic technologist, used to take thigs apart and fix them on occassions.
Unit is under 30 days warranty, but to send it to US will cost me $90.00. Not really rich, I am trying to find a way how to fix it.
Please is there among you somebody who can advise me?
thanking you kindly,

I understand tonerrefillkits.com has them, but I don't know about the quality of the parts. I can reset the chips for you, but the shipping would put it out of range I think. If you want, you can mail the chips, I can reset for about $4 each, as high yield, and send back. If anyone uses the resetter from the other company, let me know how good it is so I know whether to recommend it or not. :-)PCRMike
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Storing Parts by Peter Bernier (12/6/06 5:47 PM) reply
Last month I purchased a CLP 510. I printed a page of small labels but the print was about 3mm lower than it was supposed to be. On most documents this was not noticeable but it was on the labels. After some back and forth with customer service they sent me a replacement machine. They said to return the original one to them but keep the consumables.
On the Configuration page it lists the following under "Consumables Life": Imaging Unit, Fuser, Transfer Roller, Transfer Belt, Toners, and Tray Roller. Would all of these be legitimately considered consumables since Samsung seems to consider them as such?
Some directions as to what some of these items are and how to remove them would also be appreciated. The toner cartriges are OK but how do I pack and store the other things considering it may be some time before I need them?
They stated: "If all printout is shifted consistently then a frame misalignment can be suspected. This is not repairable and the printer should be PEX in such case" so I assume they will junk the machine when they get it back. (What does PEX mean?)

Sorry to hijack the thread but it seemed the best place to ask.
Do any of you know where I can purchase a replacement fuser unit from please?
I know they don't generally need replacing but one of my kids decided a good way to unclog paper from it was with a knife  As a result, there are gouges out of the rubbery surface which affect the printout.
I phoned samsung and they said it can't be sold separately and that it must be fitted by a service engineer.
Since I've had to take it out several times already to unwind paper which is wrapped around it, I begrudge paying an engineer to do a job I know I could do myself.
Any advice appreciated. Tammy

Email me, as I have a good used one with a damaged gear. If you like, send me the old one, I will take the good gear from yours, and replace the one on this one and send it to you for $25. It barely has 1000 pages on it. The previous user of it wrapped a transparency around the lower roller and the gear broke. I cleared the jam, and it is fine except for the gear. If you would rather do it yourself, I will let you. Keep in mind, that jams like that where hte paper sticks to the roller is usually caused by a toner of the wrong material. It can also be caused by the fuser running too hot. Just out of curiosity, are you running a refill kit in your toners? :-)PCRMike

Re: Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by Anonymous (2/28/07 12:46 AM) reply
On eBay, a vendor named Owencom in Australia sells CLP-510 relacement toner and a battery operated chip resetter. The toner works fine (for my use, printing books), and the chip resetter also works great. Other ebay toner sellers will provide a replacement chip that you must solder in place of the original one. I am not sure that the resetter will make the low-capacity cartridge communicate like the high capacity ones, but they will accept the same amount of refill toner, so you can always re-set it again.
In my experience, the Samsung message to replace toner is not reliable. Sometimes it gets it right, and other times it doesn't. The better way is to simply weigh the cartridge against an empty one using a postal scale. Then, if it really is empty, you can refill it and reset it.

You should still be able to get one from one of the places like newegg or ebay. If nothing else, you can get parts printers for 25-50 dollars and as long as it says CLP-510N (has to have the "N") it has one. It would probably be cheaper to do it that way, then you have spare parts too! :-)PCRMike

I LOVED my CLP-510 . . . until those little words "replace imaging drum" popped up. I am trying to decide which is better to do, buy a new one, about $650.00 or spend almost $500.00 in new "consumable" parts. I think my extended warranty was a rip off since the things that make the printer work so well are all things you have to replace. Does anyone know what a valid warranty claim would be? Any one interested in buying "parts" of a CLP-510? That may be the most economical way to get out of this and into a new one. I have found that the toner refills at Cartridge World to be the best value and they do guarantee them 100%. I have one near me in Las Vegas, NV and it is a bonus. I guess shipping would be the determing factor.
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by pcrmike (5/10/07 12:27 PM) reply
Are they better than $69.95 for high yield? That's what we charge, and the same for the warranty. As for the imaging unit, why pay $500 for consumables? They should run no more than $159 for the imaging drum and the same for the T-belt. I can see spending the $350 for them, but not $500.

I have the same problem as Tammy. My CLP 500 had paper caught in the roller and on removing it I damaged the roller and subsequent prints have had small marks on them. I have another broken CLP 500 (bought for spares) which has a dead fuser but contains two perfect rollers. I've had a quick look at the assmbley of the fuser and it looks quite complicated to take these rollers out and put them in my working printer. I've searched the web for instructions but can't find anything and as is suggested on these forums, Samsung just say we have to send an engineer out. Anyone able to explain what I need to do? Thanks.

I too damaged my fuser roller while clearing paper rolled around it and am looking for an inexpensive replacement. New ones are $125 (oddly the roller is $125 and so is a complete fusing unit). Since I only paid $200 for the printer new I don't want to spend that much to fix it. Anyone have a dead printer and/or fuser they'd sell? On a side note, I used to fix printers for a living and I've never seen paper get rolled around inside the fuser but it has happened to me a few times and apparently to others. What's up with that?

Has anyone successfully replaced the fuser roller. If so, could you post directions as well as your source for the replacement roller.
I have the same roller jam problem although I have used the exact same paper and Samsung toner throughout the 2 years I have used the machine in a small office. I have ordered another machine but would love to fix this one inexpensively and have another printer for the office.
Does this routine actually reset the chips and preclude the need for a new chip or a new chip setting device?! Chips have gone up in price from $4.95 to $15 or $20. Ripoff.
Tell me about it. I remanufacture these for customers all over the country, and the prices keep going up on the parts. You see, we don't just refill, we replace the rollers, blades, and all. We are still holding our prices, but if it continues, we will have to go up too. :-( PCRMike
Samsung CLP-510 Transfer Belt Reset by MdEjaz (6/26/07 10:38 PM) reply
Can someone explain how to reset the page counter for the Transfer Belt in the Samsung CLP-510? The EDC mode allows only to reset the Transfer Roller which seems to be different from the Transfer Belt. The Transfer Belt is visible in the maintenance mode. However, the system allows only to view the page count but does not provide a way to rest that count.
The following procedure is straight from the CLP-510 manual.
Menu -> Setup -> Maintenance -> Check Other -> (Select the desired part) -> Reset.
I am able to follow this procedure to the last point. However, the Reset is missing. Can anyone help?
Thank you so much! MdEjaz

Yep you guessed it I bought a CLP 500 toner and didn't notice the problem until I installed it in the printer. The tape over the 3 pins worked and it seems to print OK but I don't want to trash the printer.

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by pcrmike (6/28/07 6:38 AM) reply
Stasps, the slit glass for the cleaning lamp is likely dirty. It is on the bottom of the drum unit, and resembles a flat, clear plastic piece that runs the width of the drum. A few screws removes it, you clean it with a soft cloth, especially the side closest to the drum, and re-install. Have done this on a number of the machines I service in the field. If you need step-by-step, you may email me if you wish or phone. 501-368-8324 :-)PCRMike

Hey all..!! Has anyone got a simple method that does not involve EEPROM's, soldering, or any programming for resetting the counter to zero on the "Transfer Belt"?
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by pcrmike (7/5/07 5:28 PM) reply
On the drum, I wouldn't gripe, but the t-belt, I strongly recommend against doing. These fail shortly after count is up if reset, and can cause serios damage, like the waste MOTOR error that is basically the end for the printer. I would get another belt. :-)PCRMike
I put clear tape over the 3 colors and and ran the information page. The result was great! In order of C/M/Y it went from 2518/2520/2520 to 2/2/2 (since I printed 2 pages after taping the contacts).
This should be illegal for a company to falsify information by saying a cartridge needs to be replaced when in fact it is rigged. Not sure what we can do but something has got to be done.
If you are reading this, please tell everyone you know about these "chips" and how they mislead consumers. Maybe if the right people (or nubmer of people) know where to complain it might make a difference.
Is anyone aware of a manufacture who does not use this?
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by pcrmike (7/25/07 5:36 AM) reply
You can't do that with an HP cartridge, and there is a legal battle going on about it. The point is, when one of these carts runs really, really low where there is not enough to cover the development roller, it creates a dust in the machine that soils the optics, some of the sensors, etc. This is why they do that. The carts at prescribed rate of usage SHOULD run out about the same time as the chip. Frequently the user only makes a bit of letterhead, and the chip goes out before the toner is used up. There is a cry out there for a better toner monitoring system. Case in point, Samsung is now, in their CLP 600, 650 series have an active AND passive system in them, and the 300 and CLX3160 has a full active system, as the toner is seperate from the development unit on it. Nobody else does that, so our voice is being heard! :-)PCRMike

My 510 gave me the Engine Fuser Low Heat Error. I called Samsung & they gave me a part #. Does anyone have experience in replacing one of these? I got the repair manual that was recommended up several posts, & it doesn't look that difficult, or is it? I'm comfortable rooting around inside such things, but don't want to get the expensive part in & then find out it's not working and be stuck with a printer spread all over & still not working.
Is replacing the fuser typically all that needs to be done in this case?

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by pcrmike (8/10/07 6:29 AM) reply
Yes, replacing the fuser is all that needs doing in 99.9% of those cases. As to the new CLP-510 and cheaper than carts, the carts in that machine are standard yield, 2K each, while the high yield are 5K each color and 7K on black. Cost per page, is cheaper to replace. Email me, I have a list that I can share with you and show you the difference. :-)PCRMike

When your print window comes up, you have a tab called "properties". Click it and go to the "grapchics" tab. Once there, you can select between the 600 and 1200 dpi, etc. One of them says Color and grayscale. Select grayscale to print mono. I just go to start, control panel, printers & faxes, Samsung CLP500, right click and select properties and do the same to set it as the default. This way it speeds up a lot, and you just select the color when you want it to be color. :-)PCRMike

Dude, I have the high yield (5-7K) carts for these for $69 each. A lot of people here buy them from me, and I have a good rapport with them, so this would save you about half on it. Otherwise, I may be interested in buying it. Great machine. A few quirks, but good box. :-)PCRMike

Check the Staples version, it is only a 1500 page yield, part number CLP-500D5C (or M or Y). Mine are equal to the CLP-500D7K. D5C (or M or Y). More than three times the life. Compare apples to apples, and check those part numbers at Staples and see they are over $130 new. The higher yield like ours last 5K per color and 7K per black. :-)PCRMike

I'm looking to buy a fuser for a CLP-510...got the "low fuser engine temp" error. Of course I just bought a set of high capacity toners the week before!
Seems a shame to junk a printer over a single part, but unless I can find a reasonably priced fuser, I'll need to buy a used 510, it probably makes more financial sense...

No, we don't rip people off like that. THe hacks that sell that kind of stuff are making a quick buck and hanging customers out to dry. We actually remanufacture, because the development rollers will not usually take another cycle of good quality printing. We also do it so it is guaranteed for you so if it ever fails before out or "chipped" out we replace it for you freeof charge, so your hands don't even get dirty. We try to make it like buying a new one. Remove and replace, and no worries. You can get a refill for about $50 online, but you have no real guarantee of the condition of your cart, if it will work right, etc. That is why we have so many customers, and we share our expertise here, for the do-it-yourselfer, BUT, and I mean a big but, if it is something we can do for folks, save them time, make it better for them, and make a buck ourselves, it is best that way. Let me know if I can help. :-)PCRMike

ok i kinda confused cuz if you dont sell the powder and dont like to reset the cartridges do your chips on the printers have a higher number that it counts down from before it says its empty even though u might have no printed nothing from the cartridge? or do u recommend this putting tape over the cartridge connectors and then resetting and how does that work does the printer not notice that there is no cartridges in the printer then when u put tape between the connectors?
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by pcrmike (10/16/07 4:44 PM) reply
We replace the chips with new ones, or reset in certain models. We basically take the empty, shot cart, put new parts into it, reset/replace the chip, fill it, and make it like a new cart. All you do it take it out of hte box, and install the whole fresh cart into the machine, take the empty one out and send it back. :-)PCRMike
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by comet240 (10/16/07 4:51 PM) reply
but evne though i dont use say yellow it will still decrease yellow and say a full cartridge is empty so why would i send back a full one as empty
what i mean is now if a orginal samsung cartridge chip says 5000 pages on it, do u set ur chips to say 20,000 pages it can print? so u can print right till there is no powder in the cartridge?
and i take it the printer isnt smart to not be able to tell there is no cartridge in the printer when u do that tape over it
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by pcrmike (10/16/07 7:30 PM) reply
Actually on this model, you can bypass the chip funtion. Press menu, several times until you come to a screen that says, I think, maintenance. press enter, and you will come to a selection for "check others". use an arrow key to select "alarm shortage". Press enter, and toggle to "off". Press enter, and you will be able to print til out of toner. The chips themselves are good to 5K pages, but this bypasses the chip totally. :-)PCRMike
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by Elwood-PB (10/18/07 6:40 AM) reply
Elwood, the newer firmwares of the 510 would not allow it. You can try the tape, yes, but I take no responsibility for what happens next, if anything. :-)PCRMike
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by Anonymous (10/18/07 7:45 AM) reply
Good hint... maybe taping one cartridge at a time could do it. I suppose, the newer firmware (whichs is obviously on my printer) waits for the chips to acknowledge the page count increase before starting the print. And, of course, with tape over the contacts, there is no counting at all...

Mike, Earlier in the thread someone left instructions to reset the counters as follows. Start printer with "online" and "cancel" pressed Press "menu" until you see the message "Uncheck Consumable Mode" Press "menu" ~ 15 times and "enter" five times until "Press access key" appears Press "enter" a few times Press "cancel" three times Go to the EDC Mode and you will see "press access key" Press "cancel" Go to the maintenance menu and initialize the parts you would like to reset.
I can get all of the way through these instructions, intializing the imaging drum, belt etc., but then can't move out of the EDC mode to return the printer to service. I'm trying to save the library where I work some funds, we have ordered a new imaging belt but the drum also is showing replace. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

We are also at present unrolling paper from the fuser roller. Hopefully hubby can do this without damaging it but we do have a spare handy just in case, which we just bought used from someone on ebay.
The original problem was caused by using coated paper and also printing large images at high quality. Not sure if those things were done at the same time or not.

I wanted a color laser printer, and ended up buying three separate Samsung CLP-510 units on eBay: #1 had a hairline crack in the strap on the imaging unit and jams a lot... probably rollers need cleaning; #2 "as is" had been dropped but had a good imaging unit, and the film on the transfer belt had damage; #3 is great, but the seller didn't include the transfer belt.
I have unjammed the paper tray in the wrecked unit # 2 and removed miscellaneous pieces of the broken case. It starts up but always says 'cover open.' It may be that the broken case won't align with the 'cover open' sensors. Can anyone confirm this?
Finally, does anyone have any transfer belts [used] for sale? I need two.

Where can I get a new memory unit? or do you think problem is elsewhere? Thanks
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by joncris (1/8/08 9:06 AM) reply
Corky Here is a possible alternative problem / solution. I had a problem with double feeds [sometimes printing on the outside surfaces of two sheets without problems] and jams with the first CLP-510 I purchased on eBay. Only when I compared paper trays did I discover the problem.
The little plastic 'stop' to set paper size for either 'letter' or 'A4' wasn't in the tray was missing, but I hadn't noticed it before. With one more bit of cannibalization, the printer no longer double feeds or jams. Now, I have two great printers, and one that might be fixable with a lot of epoxy for the case and a woodblock for the paper tray. joncris
ps I will check my service manual to see what the memory unit is. maybe the one on my smashed unit would work for you. jc

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by dbroerse (1/9/08 7:24 AM) reply
The answer is, "Yes, but..." Actually, I bought the unit "as is" hoping to replace a fuser in the other unit, which had a hairline crack in the strap across the fuser, causing a line in printouts. The line wasn't so noticeable in black-and-white, but was so for color. I made the swap successfully. If that would satisfy your needs, I would send it to you for the cost of shipping. I did see a fuser unit for sale on eBay for about $80 a few weeks ago, but lost a lower bid. You should also check out the Xerox 6100 parts. You need to reset from the menu, but the parts themselves are the same.
Let me know what you decide, and good luck! joncris

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by joncris (1/10/08 9:45 AM) reply
According to the Samsung CLP 510 Setup Guide, printing blank pages means:
"The toner cartridge is defective or out of toner. ==> Redistribute the toner. If necessary, see pge 6.5 [joncris: Take out the toner cartridge and shake/twist it from side to side, trying to get the toner loose and well distributed.] If necessary, replace the toner cartridge."
"The software application is malfunctioning. ==> Try printing a job from another application."
"The operating system is malfunctioning. ==> Exit Windows and reboot the computer. Turn the printer off and then back on again."
"Some parts, such as the controller or the board, may be defective. ==> Contact a service representative."
[joncris' comments:
Remember, after a jam -real or apparent - you have to open and close the top cover to clear it.
Unfortunately, a service call is usually more money than a replacement unit. If you have a friend with a CLP-510, try swapping the CLP-510 transfer belt [aka Image Transfer Unit] and the printer cartridges to see if one of those is defective.]
Good luck!

May be it is not a good idea to buy Samsung Printers without realizing all the problems. The ink cartridges and other consumables are very costly.
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by joncris (2/2/08 11:12 AM) reply
1) I am NOT a technician, but I have learned something over the past 6 months of cannibalizing units, producing two good units out of three. 2) You mention the 'imaging unit.' Do you mean the 'image transfer unit' also known as the 'transfer belt'? If so, you might want to read some of the discussions about people who have extended the life of the 'image transfer unit' by overriding the settings for it. You can also watch eBay for sales of used units [I just bought one for under $100] and of the compatible Xerox 6100 [which I also bought for under $100, but which requires resetting on the menu]. 3) Laser cartridges aren't cheap, but - unlike some people - I have done refills successfully, with good results. They cost about $40 per color, or abut $120 for a set of four on eBay. 4) Another $30 'consumable' is the 'waste toner unit.' There is some kind of hidden optical scanner that detects 'full', even if it is only a coating of toner on the container wall. Like others before me, I tried: a) pouring the used toner slowly into a plastic bag, which got most of it without a lot of dust b) vacuuming up more from the inside of the container c) washing out the rest of the toner into a 'slop sink' with a drain in the laundry room, [I didn't use any soap or detergent; others did], and d) using a hair 'blow dryer' to dry out the inside! It worked so well on one container that I cleaned the other one!
That said, I am happy with my Samsung CLP-510 units, and will shortly sell one to a friend. My time wasn't efficient, in terms of 'billable hours' but it was in saving cash during gaps in employment. At some point, however, I will probably move up to a unit with an 11" width.
Good luck! joncris

According to the Samsung CLP-510 Setup Guide, the Imaging Unit is good for 50,000 black and white pages, or 12,500 color pages. I had one with a cracked strap which worked, but left a shaded area running down the page. I replaced it with a good Imaging Unit from a wrecked printer I bought on eBay for $0.99 plus $40 S&H. I have seen ones on eBay for under $100.
NOTE: Don't panic! Replacement does not require any tools. Remove the Transfer Belt [also known as the Image Transfer Unit], remove the Imaging Unit, set in the new Imaging Unit, put back the Transfer Belt, and you are done.

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by joncris (2/18/08 10:24 PM) reply
1) for farmer2008, I don't know the answer... but here is a possible scenario.
I just purchased a used unit that the seller said only printed a faded black. When I started it up, it said to replace the waste toner unit. I cleaned the unit, and then it said 'waste motor error.' The installation manual says to call for service. The service manual says to clean out the waste motor and all the connections. The tube has a spring inside that seems to function as an Archimedes Screw, to carry off the used toner. Sometimes it plugs up. I cleaned it... and then the printout was a faded black. I tried a transfer belt from a different printer, and it worked perfectly. Maybe you need a replacement transfer belt. [I bought a used Samsung unit and also a compatible Xerox 6100 on eBay. The Samsung unit worked fine; the Xerox unit required resetting, using the steps discussed on previous postings.
2) for anonymous, look for the resets on prior postings. They worked for me for the Xerox unit, but I had to reset with each session. Maybe I didn't follow the directions carefully.
3) for Zuble1
On eBay, the going rate is about $60 for S&H, and $20 - $80 for the unit itself with all the components and consumables. Someone in Houston would have a good deal for your $70 and local pickup.
Good luck.

Well, there is a total of 379 pages printed and I've done 100 of those myself trying to get this thing to work. I don't think its any parts but maybe firmware or software related. I don't know much about these things yet but I am an electronics technician by trade and love working on computers as a hobby so I'm willing to tear into anything at anytime to get the job done. I believe the guy who sold it to me because there is a little mixed toner in the waste toner catch (whatever its name is) in the front. Just don't know where to get the firmware. Does anyone know of any flukes with this printer and XP Home?
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by joncris (2/20/08 10:04 AM) reply
I am a programmer, not an electronics technician, so my limited technical skills on this printer come from the last six months cannibalizing 4 units... and reading a lot on fixyourownprinter.com. I am not sure the problem is firmware.
Samsung appears to have gone overboard on sensors, and some seem to be highly sensitive. My recent experience still points to the waste toner motor, the waste toner container, or the transfer belt. As many noted, and I have confirmed, the waste toner system is a pain.
If you have a friend with another Samsung CLP-510, switch the transfer belt [aka the image transfer unit]. If the problem disappears on your machine, you need a new ransfer belt... or at least a less-used one. A new one costs $130 - $290. Used ones are available from time to time, as I found on eBay.
If your belt works on your friend's machine, the problem is elsewhere; I suspect the waste toner system, beginning with the waste toner container and its secret sensor.
You can buy a new container for $30 - $40. Otherwise:
1)Dump out as much waste toner as you can into a plastic bag. Do it gently, so the toner doesn't get in the air. Knot the bag and throw it in the trash. 2) Vacuum the container. 3) Wash it out with hot water. It will take several rinsings to get it clean. [I didn't use detergent; some people do.] 4) "Blow dry" the interior until there is no water left at all. 5) Check it carefully, to see that there are no pockets of toner left for the sensor to misread as 'full.' 6) Run another test printout.
If that doesn't correct the problem, try cleaning the assembly first. If you don't have a service manual:
1) Remove the top cover in order to see a hidden screw - one of two on top and five on the 'front' [behind the waste toner container] to get access to the waste toner motor. 2) Remove six more screws holding the waste toner motor, the tube containing the Archimedes Screw, and the intake. 3) Remove and clean the assembly, including the Screw. [Rotate it, to dislodge stuck toner.] 4) Replace everything 5) Run another test printout.
NOTE: As a novice, I did the whole cleaning process twice. The second time, I realized that the 'clear' plastic tube wasn't clear at all, and needed cleaning, too!
Finally, another thought just came to me. Have you tried loosening the toner in the color cartridges? No, I don't mean taking the cartridges apart. Instead, one by one:
1) shake the cartidges hard to one side several times 2) shake them hard in the other direction several times 3) gently shake them up and down to distribute newly loosened toner evenly.
I have used this trick to extend the life of many cartridges on several brands of laser printers.
Good hunting!

For the Samsung CLP-510, the transfer belt [aka the image transfer unit] is available on eBay and in some big office supply stores, but at the top end of costs. For new units, the price varies from about $130 to $270. I bought a used belt for about $65, including S&H. I also bought a new Xerox 6100 belt for a little more, which works if I reset it with the menu. It took a nearly a month of waiting to find a used one, and the eBay facility that let me post a need never produced anything. Summary: it seems bizarre that you can buy a complete printer with everything working for less than you can buy a belt. Good hunting! joncris

I had a vertical line from a crack in the strap on the top of the OPC drum. Originally, one end of the broken strap sat on top of the other piece, and the line was very wide. Fitting the two ends together reduced - but didn't eliminate - the line. However, if you have multiple lines, I would guess the problem is elsewhere. Good luck! joncris

It has about 20k page count, and I live in houston, if pickup is possible. make me an offer, Im not sure what it's worth. Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by Anonymous (3/16/08 4:08 AM) reply
one of the many annoyances of the Samsung CLP 510 is the waste toner container. Once the printer tells you it is full, you have to buy a new one. If you try to empty the old one you must clean it with a lot of effort, in order for the printer to function again. The reason for this is that the printer checks whether the container is full or not by means of a light barrier. The container has a round part sticking out on the side facing the printer when installed. Any dust in this part of the container will hinder the barrier's light from getting through. What I did was to saw off the round part (but be sure not to damage the small square pin just next to it). Now the light just passes the container and the printer works just fine. You just have too keep an eye on the container so it does not everflow.
Good luck.

I have the same problem and have attached a test image scan I made - http://tinyurl.com/yoyx9s. It is hard to see the light grey vertical lines on the white background in the scan, but you can see them in person. In the scan, the lines are most noticeable on the yellow background and resemble what they really look like in person.
I have cleaned the printer, the clear bar on the transfer unit (it wasn't dirty), shaken the toner, inspected/cleaned the transfer belt (I think this would only make the back of the page dirty, no?).
I just started getting the message "Black Low Toner". Could this cause the problem I am describing? Has anyone seen a light grey/dirty background around the time the black toner needed replacing?
I don't want to buy new toner only to find out that it doesn't fix the problem and that I might need to buy a whole bunch of new parts.
Thanks for the help.

No. I sold my non-working complete printer to a "mike". Was it you? At this point, through judicious parts purchases, learning how to clean things, and cannibalization, I now have three complete working units... which is one or two more than I need. I'm quite happy. joncris.

Keep watching eBay for a 510 fuser. I have seen two come up in the past 6 months. You also may find a complete printer that someone is selling, for a reasonable price. Expect to pay $60 for S&H. Beyond that, I have bought for as little as $0.99... which also brought in partly used cartridges and some parts I needed. It seems crazy, but buying a second unit may be a good deal for you. [I later sold it to someone else for S&H, which gave me back some floor space.]

You will need to detrmine where the print quality issue is occuring at. send a full page document to the printer, and when it grabs the page, open the door where your toners are. On the back of eahc toner is a green drum. pull out the toner and look at the image on hte drum. If the print looks fine on the drum, it is your fuser causing the print quality issue. I work in the customer care call center, and that is how we deterimine what part to replace. Hope this helps.

The print quality fades with the more pages printed. If I print 20 or more pages, the first 10 are fantastic, then they start to fade and by the time printing reaches 20 the print is real lite gray. I have replaced the imaging unit, the transfer belt and the black toner cartridge. What could be the problem? Anyone now of a remedy.

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by joncris (5/2/08 10:34 AM) reply
Jim: Since you have changed the parts the problem is probably not what I am about to suggest. However, if the original toner cartridge and its replacement were sitting a long time...
1) take the toner cartridge out 2) sharply, shake it to the right several times, and then to the left the same way. 3) gently, shake it back and forth a few more times 4) gently, shake it up and down a few times 5) put it back in the printer
What I have just described is the technique for getting more pages from any laser toner cartridge when the toner is nearly exhausted and/or stuck together.
Having cannibalized four printers to get three in good order, I have seen several weird problems and solutions.
After the toner cartridge, I would have blamed the transfer belt, but you changed that as well.
I'm wondering if there might be a blockage somewhere on the outgoing toner side. If so, turning the machine on might give a burst that clears the used toner passage, allowing a few pages to print before backing up again.
Do you have a service manual? If not, you should get one. Somebody will download it for about $7, but I forgot who.
Cleaning is tedious, but not difficult... as long as you know where all the screws are. Some are on top, and you have to remove a top cover to see them. It took me two tries. On the first one, I thought that a white tube was translucent - and empty - but on the second try, I removed it, and found it was full of toner.
By the way, you can clean and re-use the used toner container. In my case, I vacuumed out what I could, and then washed it several times with warm water until the water came out clear. A hair dryer worked to dry out the inside. It also took a little work with a paper towel to clear some stuck toner near the place where the sensor checks to see if the unit is full.
Good luck!

I am getting pale gray streaks over the entire page and occasional dark spots or blobs on most pages (black only). These are maybe 1/8" - 1/4" in size.
I wiped off the toner cartridges, transfer drum and transfer belt. I found that I couldn't really clean off the transfer belt. As I fed the belt and exposed fresh surface, it always had powder on it. I think I went around a couple of times.
Anyway, does this description sound like a transfer belt problem? I hate to pay $130 if that's not it.

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by Kabul (6/29/08 11:00 AM) reply
I have been able to successfully resolve the issue of paper getting wrapped around the fuser roll. Its actually quite easy. Just remove the fuser roll (its attached with just 5 screws - 4 on the roll assembly itself and one on a small plastic cover that covers the connector to the machine - the connector itself just pops off). Next turn the cogs on the side to rotate the paper until you find the leading edge of the paper. Use a knife to gently pull the leading edge back so that when you reverse the turn of the cog the paper will come out from the rollers. If you have difficulty turning the cog use some leverage. I used one end of a sissors blade. Once you have removed the paper turn the cog a few times to make sure no paper is left behind and then return the assembly to the machine. Run a blank piece of paper through once to be sure there are no more problems. This worked a charm for me. One last warning: let the assembly cool before you remove it as it can get quite hot.
Re: Samsung CLP-510 smudge by rayamna (7/14/08 8:07 AM) reply
I’ve got a Samsung CLP 510 and whenever I print anything from it, the left middle and lower margin smudges. I’ve replaced the OPC drum, cleaned the transfer belt (and I think it’s also been replaced since the problem started) and moved in the margin. When I move in the margin I have to move it in too far (4cm) or the problem doesn’t go away.
Have you cleaned the used toner mechanism? It is straightforward, but you need a manual to know where the screws are. I suspect that there is a slight blockage that is allowing some toner to float around.
Before you tackle that project, you might want to clean out the waste toner container. Samsung says to replace it for $39.95, but that is not necessary, if you don't mind cleaning it. There are other posted suggestions on how. Here are mine:
1) vacuum out what you can. tap the container to loosen what is lightly stuck. 2) rinse with warm water. fill part way and shake to loosen stuck toner. some people use soapy water. I don't. repeat until done. 3) use a soft rag or napkin to thoroughly clean around the openings. be sure to clean the outside. 4) use a hair dryer to remove any remaining moisture. 5) NOTE: the optical scan that Samsung uses to detect 'full' is very sensitive. if you get messages to 'replace waste toner' then you need to do some more cleaning arount the openings.
Good luck! joncris

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by joncris (7/19/08 8:41 AM) reply
$400 is a lot of money to write off. Before you give up, do you have a service manual? If not, get one [Someone downloads them for about $7; there is also a free source.] With the manual, it is straightforward - if messy - to clean out the tubing leading to the waste toner container.
That said, I am interested in the supplies, and possibly the printer itself. What kind of price are you looking at? Shipping is expensive - typically about $60.
Good luck.

I decided it was more cost effective time-wise to purchase another printer and gave up on my Samsung CLP-510 when my starter cartridges ran out and bought a hardly used CLP-500 for $50 off Ebay.
Be aware that the drum and transfer belt is not interchangeable between the different models. IE transfer belt from CLP-510 wil not work in CLP-500! I have tried it and it don't work, the printer can tell the difference even though the parts are exactly the same.
So if anyone wants the:
CLP-510 OPC Drum // used for $40 + $10(shipping) to continental US only
CLP-510 ITB transfer belt // used for $40 + $10(shipping) to continental US only
Email me at "hchungauction at aol dot com" for more info. I have a PayPal account.
As for the counts on these units, I have only used up the page count on the starter cartridges which is about 2000 pages. Only my red ran out but disabled the rest of the other cartridges.
The rest of the printer is headed for the trash at the end of the month(Sept 2008) so if you need something.....

Re: Re: Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by Anonymous (11/1/08 5:05 AM) reply
1) Yes, Samsung does shortchange you on the life of the image transfer unit/transfer belt. However, you can reset the transfer belt counter. [check preceding messages for details.] 2) At some point, the belt fails to effect good image transfers, with fainter and fainter pages. At that point, I changed the unit. Whether the failure results from a build-up of dirt or oil - or something involving demagnetization - I don't know. Maybe someone braver than I will try washing the belt [with alcohol??? or ???] or experiment in some other way and report the findings. NOTE: I bought a little extra life by cleaning out the hoses carrying toner. It was messy, and required a manual to find all the screws, but wasn't difficult. Good luck! joncris tfx2000@att.net

Use the Dunfield method to reset the transfer belt, also you must use the 4 wire method or else you will get INVALID TRANSFER BELT message in the display when you are done.

Can anyone tell me where to get the schematic of the chip resetter. They won't sell them now without a toner refill purchase, so I'd like to build my own. THanks

I find wiring information, three-wire adapter Design for Resetting Toner Cartridge in the said Web Page. Transfer Belt is said to be in need of Four Wire Adopter. Please show me How and where to connect the Fourth Wire in the Adopter.and where is the Contact Points in the Transfer Belt. and What is the input at the Dos Prompt to save and Restore EEPROM data of the Transfer Belt.

Thanks for the offer. Normal cardboard box would be ok, shipping either by USPS or UPS ground. I can pay you by paypal or send you a check, before you do anything, if you would like. I live in Wisconsin.
I assume the 510 and 500 are the same, but I am not sure.
Maybe someone else from the forum could help?
Thanks

Sorry for the double post - I received an error on screen when I submitted the previous reply, so didn't know if it went through.
I have a NEW CLP-500 Transfer Belt that was sent to me in error when I ordered a CLP-510 TB. Even though they are physically the exact same on the outside, the wiring harness to the inside connector is different. The 500 belt does not work in a 510 printer, but the reverse may work (a 510 belt might work in a 500 printer, but I don't know for sure).
I would love to trade this 500 belt for a 510 belt!
Let me know if you are interested in this 500 belt.

I am not sure if you are more interested in selling your 500 transfer belt or trying to find a trade for a 510. Please let me know.
Yes, I am interested in your 500 belt, but have not started to shop around online. Do you know the prices, and if so, what would be your asking price? It should be a win-win situation so we both will be satisfied with the deal.

I only mentioned the trade in case someone on this forum had a CLP-510 T-Belt available. So far, no one has offered a trade, so I will sell the CLP-500 T-Belt to you and then I can order what I need separately.
The lowest I've seen a CLP-500 belt online is around $148 plus shipping; You can have this one for $129 plus shipping. Call with details and I'll save it for you.

Tonerrefillkits.com is great for chip resetter and toner. You will have to use duct tape on your cartridges, but it hasn't caused any problems here. Had a friend create a resetter with alligator clips and an old DOS recovery disc, but God only knows how he did it. Also, alligator clips are difficult to attach to the chips.
I have the stupidest question imaginable, but it is driving me crazy. I can't physically remove the imaging unit to replace it. The instructions show it lifting right out. It looks like there are really small green pieces on the side that should be used to free it from captivity, but I can't figure out what to do with them.

We are offering a slightly used Transfer belt for the Samsung CLP-510. It will NOT fit the CLP-500. Will ship in the continental US. Price is negotiable.
I am interested in a used Transfer belt for the CLP-500(N).
Let me know if you have one for an acceptable price from your used Samsung CLP 500 printer, which is just standing in the corner collecting dust.

My CLP-510 ran out of toner. I considered buying another unit such as a Xerox 3300, but the crazy price of the toners for this unit work out to a higher cost per page than even genuine Samsung units, and I find Xerox overestimate their toner yields.
I was annoyed that my CLP-510 pauses between each page on duplexed colour print jobs at high quality, so I bought a ram upgrade for my printer from a local vendor hoping this would fix that problem.
The RAM clearly states 128 mb on the stick and mentions that it is for a samsung CLP-500 printer (assumedly the 500 and 510 use the same ram). However the printer's status information print says that the printer has 320 mb of ram, which is more than is supported, and also indicates that the ram stick is perhaps 256 meg instead of 128.
Small lightweight print jobs print. But print a double sided brochure with photos, and it baulks. SPL-C ERROR - uw_color < 5.
Has anyone else had experiences with memory upgrades for this printer? I don't have an old laptop that I can test the memory in to verify what size it is, and its going to be difficult/costly to send back.

All 4 toners empty - I think not by LovedMyCLP510 (6/9/09 7:48 AM) reply
I have read everything I can find here - I see people with the same symptom but no answers, so this is a last ditch - with a little more info. than many.
After a power outage my CLP-510 came on, but just hung on 'Processing'. Restarting it, it said all four toners needed replacing. Figuring it had turned the 'magic' page count I used Duffield's method to backup and zero the cartridges.
Same error - i.e. it cycles through all color/black toners saying they need replacing.
Going into the ECD (which on mine is simply apply power with Enter pressed, then press cancel when asked for key) ... I reset all the other counts AND printed a test page - no problem (may be slight calibration with yellow, but basically fine).
So restarted, suppressed consumables check (hold down menu as power is applied) ... and it comes to ready - but still hangs on Processing (and indeed regular user menu test print).
Any ideas?? Loved this unit (page count ignored as above) until I hit this.
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by chong tan (6/9/09 11:47 PM) reply
All of a sudden my CLP-510 started to print pages with a black/dark gray background. The first page printed after I turn it on has broad horizonal color strips. What is supposed to be printed can be seen if you try really hard.
What part do I need to replace?
The printer itself seems to think everything is fine. No error messages or anything. It just says ready.

Can you post a scan of the printout? It is sometimes difficult to troubleshoot a printer without physically being there, but offhand I would say it's looking like a power supply problem. Can you plug the printer into a different outlet, ideally directly into the wall, bypassing any power strips, etc, and ttry to print?
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by GBugg (7/5/09 6:58 PM) reply
The scan can be posted to one of those online image hosting sites such as Flickr, Picasaweb, etc, then have a link here that directs to the pic on that site.
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by GBugg (7/6/09 10:01 AM) reply
One is the printer test page printed a couple of days ago and the other is a copy of the email I printed after plugging my printer into a wall outlet instead of my power bar.
As you can see, the correct stuff can still be read underneath the extra color.

Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by rohmell (7/6/09 12:37 PM) reply
After seeing the scans you posted, I am still leaning towards it being a power supply problem, it seems to randomly cause the printer to dump colors unto the page. Since text is visible underneath the colors, you know that for the most part, the printer is able take data and create a printed document from that data, so this means that the CPU, and logic is working. An easy thing to try, and won't cost anything, is to turn the printer off and unplug, remove the rear cover of the printer and reseat all of the electrical connectors. Sometimes oxidation can build up on electrical contacts and cause intermittent problems. By removing and reinserting the connectors, you 'wipe' the contacts and hopefully restore good electrical contact.
Re: Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by Anonymous (7/7/09 8:13 AM) reply
Which is the rear cover? Is that where the power cord is attached? Or is it the opposite side to where the excess toner tank and paper tray slides out? There's a small plastic trap door there in the bottom right corner that comes off easily and has a metal cover behind it that is screwed on. Is this where the electric connectors are?

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace just a fuser roller, and if so how/where do I get a replacement roller?
One of my rollers has been chewed up to hell (rubber is everywhere) somehow. A new fuser is 120, and considering we paid 150ish for the entire thing, we want to try to just replace the roller.

Love the printer! Bought new unit three months ago and after 20,000 copies [counters say 52,000 copies but I have only purchased 20,000 pieces of paper, all one sided?????] and I have never had a paper jam or a poor page printed.
With that said, I am using the tap approach on the cartridges and it works great. No problem just emptying the waste container, unit just restarts even if the container still has some toner in it.
Now my problem: I have tried ALL of the hidden maintenance suggestions on this thread, but none work re the Transfer Belt and Image Unit RESET. My unit was manufactured in July 2006. I will pitch the unit rather than buy the overpriced replacements [what a waste] as remanufacture FACTORY units are selling for $150.
I would like to operate the unit until the parts fail versus Samsungs criminal misuse of counters. Can you assist with any kind of update to RESET the counters on these 2 items?????????

I keep getting "paper jam inside" message but I definitely do not have a paper jam. The paper comes through okay but is more or less blank (just has a very pale pink slight image of what I was attempting to print). The transfer belt and imaging unit are practically new (replaced very recently)and the machine is very clean inside. Previously it was printing perfectly. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this problem. I'm desperate as I have a big print job I have to get done in the next few days. Help!

I use the printer to print on heavy paper and label stock, but it only works through the manual feed slot. Now, it seems the manual feed paper sensor is out because it will never feed through that slot, and placing the labels or heavy paper in the main tray results in jams. Does anyone know where and how I can either override the sensor or replace it?
THANKS! --Raymond
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by mflesch (10/19/09 10:51 AM) reply
Make sure you try the diagnostic mode. I had to buy the parts manual to find out about this. THE SECRET: Hold the menu button as you turn on the printer. It will enter a maintenance menu mode that will let you test the various aspects of the printer. I'm not sure if fuser is included, but you can ask it to click solenoids, feed paper, print test pages, etc. I thought my manual feeder sensor was bad but it turns out it was a driver problem. Replaced the driver and it was fixed.

Does anybody understand the difference between unit life stated in pages (such as OPC Unit at mono: 50000 pages / color 12500 pages as per Tech manual) compared to a printer currently complaining of old age with Imaging Unit Life: 50489 Images and Transfer Belt Life: 50490 Images and Total Page Count of 10164 color / 8069 mono?
The page count for the printer seems a whole lot less than the image count(?)
Re: Samsung CLP-510 Replacing Parts by rohmell (2/28/10 7:11 PM) reply
If you are mostly printing in color, then the printout is made up of 4 images, 1 image is magenta, another image is cyan, another is yellow, and another is black. These 4 images go onto one page, that is why your image count will be more or less 4 times the page count.

All of a sudden when I try to print on the CLP500, all looks like it is going fine, green light, flashing green light, paper moving through printer, but then page comes out either blank or with a few streaks on it and then I get a Jam error - and there is never any paper in there ! The Jam message says it is "in printer", the jam light is to the right above ther manual feed. Has anyone had this and overcome it ? Thanks in advance, Robbo
