 | Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any more by Idwal (12/21/05 2:52 PM) reply | + / - | My Minolta-QMS Magicolor 2200 will not communicate via ethernet and hence will not accept printing jobs. It will not print via the parallel port either, though the jobs do disappear from the PC's spooler even though the printer does not indicate "Data" or "Active Job". (If I disconnect the cable, the PC, eventually, reports printer not available as would be expected. The PC also recovered the printer details when I installed the parallel port version, so some communication must have taken place.) I have just re-assembled the printer after fixing the "Image shifted down the page" fault as per this forum's suggestions. I was very careful with regards to static, even putting the main board into an anti-static bag. The printer, now, prints a perfect "test page 2" and configuration details page from the local set-up screen. Unfortunately, however, when the printer comes "On Line" after starting up, it does not enable the ethernet (tcp/ip) port (no lights on hub). This means that I cannot communicate with it from a PC and consequently cannot send it any printing work. As I mentioned above, it won't print via its parallel port either.
Any suggestions as to what is going on and how to persuade the printer to start talking again?

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any mor by dmzcompute (12/21/05 2:59 PM) reply | + / - | The only thing I can suggest is to remove the formatter (the board with the parallel and ethernet connections) and reinsert it making sure it makes good contact with the interface inside the printer. If there is a memory chip or other chips on the board I would remove and reinsert. If that does not work, then something happened to that board while it was out of the printer.

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk any more by Idwal (1/18/06 5:10 AM) reply | + / - | Knowing how I had not mishandled the controller/processor board I was not happy that it had somehow blown. It seems that I was right and the printer can, in fact, turn off its interfaces, both ethernet & parallel, despite the control panel saying that they are enabled. What I did, fter rechecking connections, was to turn off all the interfaces at the control panel. After rebooting, the printer failed to locate it's image, (coincidence?), so asked for one to be downloaded over the parallel port. This looks promising I thought, and sure enough the download was successful and the printer duly booted up. I then tried to print over the parallel connection, no problem. I then tried the ethernet link, no hitch. (I had not thought to try asking it to load an image using the control panel which might also have worked and sorted the problem that way.) The printer is now back in service and printing correctly on the page (the original problem with the solenoids fixed earlier), so I will not have to throw the spare consumables out just yet.

I had the same problem with the net / parallel card, removed and reinstalled, with the network connection comming up again....still no printouts.
I upgraded the firmware to 1.2.3 which the printer accepted perfectly...still accepts data but prints nothing.
I am running Win.XP Home edition and trying to print (now) thru the parallel port.
I do not yet have a manual for this printer, but in another thread someone mentioned being able to turn off ports on the printer thru the printer console...whats that all about??
Any Ideas

I do have communications with the printer. anyone know what these should be?

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any mor by Idwal (edited 1/30/06 12:49 AM) reply | + / - | On the network issue:- Using the printer's console, try setting the Ethernet Speed to the actual speed your network uses. (Menu/Administration/Communications/Resident NIC/CrownNET/Common/Ethernet Speed/...) The printer defaults to "Auto", but mine, at present, refuses to switch on ethernet with this setting but is fine set to 100 Full Duplex!

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) by ManWorkingHere (1/1/09 7:44 AM) reply | + / - | My friend has a used Minolta Magicolor 2200 he got from work. It does not print jobs over TCP/IP. Can you help us? = Setup The printer is connected via Ethernet to his home network. The printer is assigned 192.168.1.201 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a default router of 192.168.1.1. = What works You can Ping the printer and it responds. The printer will display configuration details if you use Firefox/IE to open the 'CrownView' info inside the printer. However, the webpage will display 'The connection was reset' right after showing the details and no other printer webpage stays up. From the front panel, you can print a test page that show the prints color features work. HOWEVER, I cannot find a way to print the details of the network configuration of the printer. Any help/ideas??? = What's the problem? The Data light on the printer never lights up when a print job is sent to the printer. Nothing prints obviously. = What I have tried I have used his Windows XP desktop and my XP-equipped laptop to attempt to print to the Magicolor. Print jobs go into the queue but never come out. Kind of like the 'Verizon dead zone' you see on TV. The print jobs even tease you by showing a Status that says, 'Printing - ENERGY SAVER'. When a print job is received at the printer, the printer should come out of Energy Saver mode and print. It doesn't. :-( The printer does have a Parallel port. However, none of our computers have a parallel port. We tried using a parallel-to-USB cable kit from Radio Shack with no luck. I thought the TCPIP route would go easier. Not! = Resources I have a PDF file of the magicolor 2200 DeskLaser User's Guide' and I have read the chapter on CrownView.
I realize that this post is asking a lot but I do appreciate any positive feedback.
Happy New Year, 2009!

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any mor by Jasonatr0n (3/13/09 9:27 AM) reply | + / - | I just acquired a Magicolor 2200 from an office. It starts up fine, and it will print a sample page with no errors and the image looks great. However, I cannot print to it from either my Vista 32-bit PC or my XP Pro PC. When I send a print job the Data light blinks once, the job leaves the print que on the PC, but nothing ever prints. I can browse its built-in web interface without problems. I am printing over the network, using the drivers included with the operating systems.
Is there a way to rest the firmware to defaults? There are not many settings to change on the from panel.

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any more by A friend (6/25/09 4:59 AM) reply | + / - | I have been suffering with the same problem for last 1 month . The printer worked fine on XP but would not print on Vista 32 or 64 . The data light glows and nothing prints .
Today , I was determined to fix this as I saw on microsoft website that it is compatible to vista .and I have sucessfully got it working in vista .
Here is what I did .
Download the xp driver for minolta QMS 2200 desklaser from minolta website .
Unzip it in a folder , I did it on my desktop\QMS .
You will find a setup file or a zinstall file .
right on the file and go to properties .
Open the tab " compatibility".
Check the option " run this program in compatibility mode for "
Windows XP(Service pack 2)
now , apply and click ok .
run the file and the printer driver should be installed without error .
test print it , shoot some document prints and it should be working now .
This has worked for me . I hope it works for everyone out there with the same problem .
Enjoy ..

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any more by A friend (6/25/09 5:05 AM) reply | + / - | 2 corrections on the above post
1. You will find a setup file or a zinstall file .
correction : both the files are there , I did the compatibility step on the zinstall.exe not on the setup.
2. right on the file and go to properties .
correction : right click on the zinstall file and go to properties.
Enjoy.

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any more by yoyoma (7/15/09 6:26 AM) reply | + / - | I’ve tried various drivers on an XP pro sp3 machine in our workgroup and one appears like it is working but a job never successfully prints. You can see the pages go to the print queue and the print queue 0’s out but the printer never prints anything. Other drivers send the job but the job sticks in print queue indefinitely. I tried the vista driver just for kicks but it just crashes the print spool services on the pc so I uninstalled it.
Every time I have worked with this printer it’s been like this but reinstalling drivers over and over seemed to eventually work. I am half suspecting these are the beginnings of hardware issues with the printer’s board or network components. People in our work group that were already connected to the printer long ago are printing ok but there are some reports of lost jobs that never print and lock up behavior. Making any new connections to the printer is almost immpossible.

right click on the print highlight run as administrator click properties give the required permissions click on configure port make sure that it is a standard tcpip port under protocol make sure that lpr button is clicked look at lpr setting under queue name enter "xxx" (without the quotes) check the lpr byte counting box click ok close try printing

With your issue, I had trouble reseating the board and had to pull off the back cover and then push the board in.
THanks

 | Re: Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 don't talk (or print) any more by Anonymous (12/19/09 11:36 AM) reply | + / - | Our office runs on a server (server2003) with workstations on XP Pro, and, after installing the printer on a new tcp/ip port, I did NOT print a test page (because that caused the printer to lock up), then ran the ZINSTALL, and during the installation, set the Port\Configure Port as LPR and Port 35 (rather than the default 9100) during the installation. Andrew at Minolta Tech Support was actually pretty helpful in figuring this out.

 | Re: Minolta-QMS 2200 print clarity problem... by meldrock (1/6/10 11:44 AM) reply | + / - | It will print, but it has white lines and looks faded. I was printing some Avery business cards which I had done many times before and got a paper jam. I carefully removed the paper in the jam, but ever since then I have had clarity problems with the printer. I replaced the OPC drum, but that did not help. I talked with a Minolta repair technician and we tried was several fixes to no avail. This has been a great printer for a long time, but I cannot use it now.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

 | It worked with my old driver! by Magalm (2/4/10 1:22 AM) reply | + / - | I had the same problem, and at last this was what worked: I used my old driver that came on a CD with the printer!(Version 1.0 probably)
It even works with Win 7!
I used the routines mentioned above: Standard TCP/IP port, QMS printer, RAW protocol and port 35. When it was time to choose printer I browsed to my driver folder on the old CD and...Presto! It worked! After 5 hours of trial, and after buying *another* used 2200 (!) I now have two gigantic working printers in my home office and a nice lumbago after lifting the d* thing the wrong way. Anyone needing the old driver-contact me and I'll mail it to you.

Print job just goes to printer spool & its doesn't print???
Port has been set to raw 35
