HP 2200 Streaking Ink by kjsachan (7/25/05 4:20 PM) reply + / -
I have an HP 2200 that is streaking ink down the left side of the paper. I'm assuming this is a roller problem, so I'm looking for instructions on how to properly remove the rollers so that I can clean them up and rejuvinate them. I've been searching the net for over an hour and had no luck. Does anyone have any instructions, advice, or guides that could help me? Thank you!!

This should not be a roller problem.

Are you talking about the left side of the paper as it comes out of the machine, or the left side when you hold it in your hands? They might be the same, might not.

Rollers are not usually removed for cleaning.

Can you fool the cover interlock and print with the cover open so you can see what's happening?

No, I'm unable to print with the cover open.

The lines are horizontal, therefore I'm thinking it's the toner or the roller. The toner cartridge has been replaced, but it's still streaking.

I do want to take the roller(s) out and clean them, just in case some loose toner got into the printer. I just don't know exactly how, and can't seem to find any documentation/instructions on how to do so.

It appears this is a laserjet 2200 and what you say is ink is actually toner. Do a half test. Put a sheet of paper on the manual feeder and push the button for a self test. When the paper is about 3/4 of the way in lift the top cover to stop the printing and look at the image below. If the defect is there it is the toner, if not, it is the fuser and most likely the teflon cover has become torn on one side. You can email Moe@fixyourownprinter.com as he does not list a kit for the 2200 but does for the 2100 and if memory serves me the fusers at least as far as the teflon is concerned should be the same.

I was assuming it was an inkjet, since laser printers use toner, and you said ink was streaking.

Do not take out the rollers you are thinking about removing, if you want to take out a roller that's in the printer you are probably considering cleaning the transfer roller, that could cause you a lot of trouble, and you might even ruin it.

The 2100 uses a LaserJet 4000/4050 film sleeve, the 2200 uses a sleeve which fits the LaserJet 1500/2200/2300/2500.

So basically that means that I cannot clean it myself. I've also been told that a 'maintenance kit' may help solve the problem.

The maintenance kit will include a new fuser but is pricey. Email Moe as he may have just the teflon cover and the video for the 2100 should work.

I have a LaserJet 2200DN and I get stray (toner?) lines going from left to right on the pages that I print. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix this?

Max,

Your problem sounds like a bad toner cartridge, try to change it out. One way to check also is load the manual tray with a sheet of paper & run a test, as the last part of the page disappears open the toner lid & check the paper if your lines are there its most likely the cartridge.
