Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by redhappytag (4/10/05 3:25 AM) reply + / -
My 2200N now prints the image about 2 inches too far from the top of the page. I have checked that setting which adjusts this is Ok. It used to just do it on my first page, but now it does it on them all.

Hi i saw this a few months ago on one of these and it drove me nuts! This one was also coming up with a incorrect paper size error at the same time. I tried changing loads of stuff and it ended up being a solinoid in the paper tray lift assy. Sorry I can't be more precise but it was a while ago. I will try and find out some more.

Hello,

The problem is with teh registration solenoid SL5, sometimes the litle pad on the back is ot of position, so replace that or replace the solenoid.

Brilliant! shifted the pad back and it works perfectly now - thanks very much. well pleased!

I have the same problem. All the pages are shifted down from the top and it gives me a paper mismatch error. How do I locate the teh registration solenoid SL5? Is there a technical manual?

Thanks
John

Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by davey (6/11/05 10:51 AM) reply+1 + / -
You can download the service manual from this website - its worthwhile as the solenoid takes a bit of getting to and it also labels it quite clearly. If you can't get hold of it, let me know and I'll email it to you (11mB). The pad is very small and basically isolates the back end of the lever from its rest when the solenoid is sprung in the de-energised position.

Good luck!

Hello Davey,
Thanks for the info. I downloaded the tech manual, and took the printer apart. I could not locate a 'teh' solenoid, but I located SL5 which is the timing roller solenoid. I could not find the pad you were referring to, and it does not look like anything would interfere with the back end of the solenoid when it is disengaged. I think I'm looking at the wrong solenoid. Could you enlighten me further?

Thanks
John

Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by davey (6/23/05 8:29 AM) reply + / -
The SL5 is the correct solenoid: If you cannot see the pad, then that is definately your problem - it's supposed to be there and the solenoid will not operate without it, although it looks as though it should. I think that you could replace the pad with a tiny piece of tape or perhaps even a spot of silicone sealer which is allowed to set before operated - it just needs something to insulute the end of the lever when in the de-energised state. I removed my solenoid and cut the wires so that I could use a 20v power supply to make sure it operated properly before I re-assembled the printer.

Let me know how you get on.

Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by jpechlin (6/23/05 10:24 AM) reply + / -
I see said the blind man! As soon as you said insulate, I realized that I had to look for metal to metal contact. The pad was in the wrong spot. What a bad design. I took off the pad and put in electrical tape around the end of the moving blade. Then I tested it with a 18 volt cordless drill battery, and it worked pefectly. Thanks again.

John

Thankyou mqms & davey. I have just fixed this shifted print problem on my QMS 2200 using your suggestions above. I used a couple of layers of insulating tape, cut it into a small square and fixed it to the end of the arm. Works a treat now. Fantastic.

I really appreciate the discussion venue and information provided by this website, and the input of knowledgeable people, such as you, willing to share.

David.

Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by jpechlin (8/15/05 3:48 PM) reply + / -
Hey guys,
I need to ammend my repair process. I wrapped electrical tape around the metal blade and it worked great when I tested it outside the printer. However when I put it all back together it worked the first day, but the second day it was sticking a little. Even though the metal was only touching the non-sticky side of the electrical tape, that slight stick caused a delay that duplicated the original problem. Now I see why Minolta originally put on that fuzzy pad. So now I'm going to put on a piece of self adhesive velcro (the fuzzy side) and I'll report on how that works.

For repairing a similar problem in HP printers I use stick on felt pads bought from dollar stores. You get several small sheets of cheap pads for your dollar.

The thin pads work better than the thicker pads you can find other places. (they are for sticking on items so they won't scratch tabletops)

Good idea. It will probably stick better too. Thanks

THANK YOU ALL! My magicolor 2200 had the same problem. I was told by Minolta it was the registration clutch. After calling my local repair shop I learned it would cost a minimum of $135 just for them to look at it! Thank goodness I found this thread! I took my printer apart using the Service Manual - re-seated the black felt pad which had slipped on the timing roller solenoid - put her back together and she runs perfectly!

I can't thank all of you enough for helping me solve my own problem!

It looks like my printer is in need of this same repair.

I'm a bit intimidated with taking the thing apart, but I guess it's the most cost-effective solution. I hate that the cost of toner makes this printer seem almost disposible!

Anyone have any more tips, particularly in the taking apart to access the solenoid? I have the maintenance manual, and it looks like each cover has to come off to get access to the next one. Can someone confirm that I have to do all this, or let me know if there's an easier way to access the SL5?

Of course, if anyone who's done this happens to be in the Washington, DC area, let me know and I can compensate for any assistance available.

Thanks!

Re: Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by Anonymous (9/9/05 6:09 AM) reply + / -
In my recent experience - it was necessary to take it apart exactly as described in the service manual. I tried taking the shortcut of not removing of couple of the panels, only to have to back-track and do it anyway. It was much easier than I first thought it would be - thanks to the service manual.

My biggest problem was when I accidentally dropped a screw which went behind another couple of parts which I then had to also remove.

Good luck. You'll be glad you saved the money by repairing it yourself.

Josh

Thanks Josh.

I have one project to do on the printer in the next few weeks, and I'm hoping I can just get by it's quirkiness to do that before taking it apart, and then I'll charge up the power screwdriver and get to work!

Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by shaber (11/16/05 12:52 PM) reply + / -
Argh! I've got my printer apart, with an ice-cube tray full of screws.

I _think_ I've found the SL5, just behind PU1 support plate. What I think is the SL5 is shown on page D-11 of the service manual, in section 3.6, "Transport Motor". It's mounted at an angle and has an arm that extends to a white gear.

Am I looking at the right solenoid (or a solenoid at all)?

I don't see a pad on this thing at all. Could it have fallen off completely? If so, I'm not sure where to put a replacement.

If someone can describe this to me, or let me know if a sketch is necessary, you might save this printer from the trash!

On a secondary note, I've broken one of the plastic connectors to the PJ12 pins on the PWB-A main circuit board. Anyone know if this is a standard Radio Shack item, or where I can get a replacement? The longer this poor thing is apart, the less chance there is of my getting it back together again!

Any help is appreciated!

Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by jdwvw (11/16/05 6:39 PM) reply + / -
I just did one today so wile it is still fresh in my memory: if you pull the engine board off there is a solenoid behind it (feed solenoid) Pull the solenoid off. Pull the spring and the arm off. Now on the solenoid housing where the arm would normaly rest there should be a little black foam pad. It should be positionde as far out on the little stop as possible. (it usually shifts in towards the solenoid) Then put it all back together.

Step 2 pull the power supply off and there should be annother solenoid with a white gear (registration). Pull that solenoid off and move its foam piece back into position.

If you need that board I might still have a couple of these POS's laying around with good boards in them. I dont think Ive gotten rid of them yet. I can make you a really good deal on the boards.

Re: Minolta QMS 2200 Image shifted down the page. by shaber (11/16/05 7:20 PM) reply + / -
Found it! Thanks. But now I'm getting a Transfer Belt Service error now that it's back together. I think I might have a bad connection on the PWB-A board. I guess tomorrow I'll tear it down and try again.

It might be that broken connector too. I sort of pushed things together and hoped for the best.

I don't think the replacement for this printer will be a QMS/Konika/Minolta, but they probably all have their own quirks.

For color I like Xerox the best. Monocrome they are all really competive.

I'm considering a Xerox Phaser that uses solid ink rather than toner.

A solid ink would be an exelent choice. Just dont run generic ink in them.

Looks like there are some great threads on line here. I appreciate those that have helped others with problems.

I have the "Service Call 16 - XFER BELT ROTATE" problem. Cost of the transfer belt is $349. Is there something I can do to work the problem? or do I need to bite the bullet and buy an new transfer belt? A new printer is not too much more.

Thanks!

I'm very pleased. Problem solved!.. (SL5).. I was unpleasantly suprised when locating the material strip, because even when set to it's original position I was unconvinced it would register the clicks from the roller because it was still quite a distance away.

But I gave it a good chance, screwed most of it back together and gave it a try.. Success!

For those lost locating the instructions in the service manual (http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download.php?fileid=16882 get all the files), the details you want are on page 99 section 3-14 item 1 (timing roller).

Thanks everyone, much time saved.

Hi

I got the same problem and have located it to be the timing roller solenoid (registration solenoid).

I downloaded the manual to get the part number but cannot find it in the manual. I did a search in acrobat for "solenoid" and it came up with 2 different part numbers for 4 solenoids. Neither of the 4 are the one I need. . . . .

Can anyone supply me with this solenoid part number please?

I'd be grateful for guide on how to fix. I didn't understand another persons previous reply about "on the side closest to the machine is a small core n' see-through and optocoupler device, samll black with two progs take them out and clean them" Are these on transfer belt itself or in the machine?

SL5 Looks ok? by lokd (12/24/06 11:49 AM) reply + / -
Hello. I spent three hours taking apart and putting the printer back together for it to be doing the same thing. I did find the SL5...and it had a pad on it still. Just in case it was making a poor connection, I put a piece of electrical tape over the arm that moves.

Is it possible that the SL5 is just bad? Is there any other cause for the problem of the Paper Mismatch and the image shifting down the page? Is their an inexpensive source of the SL5 part?

Thanks!
Drew

Thanks so MUCH, guys! The pad on SL5 was the main problem, and now the error messages, colored bar and misregistration are fixed, as well as the streaked colors! When I got that fixed, i got a toner out message, and from reading other threads on this site I knew how to jimmy the fuse to reset that condition. So, the printer is 100% working, and it is incredible! This is my 3rd or 4th color printer, all the others were darn mediocre.

Wow. You guys saved my printer from the trash also. My image was shifted down by a couple inches, smeared/streaked, skewed (crooked), and I had the paper mismatch error also. That is, until I came across this thread. The SL5 pad had shifted and I put it back in place and viola, it's fixed. Weird thing is that now after being fixed, it gave me an oil roller error. Not too big of a deal though; that one should be easier to fix. Thanx a million. I friggin LOVE the internet!

Re: Replace fuser roller error by anonymous (2/24/08 2:26 PM) reply + / -
I've used the jump method to try and get rid of this error message which lingers even though I replaced the fuser oil roller. I think I must be doing one little something wrong. This is what I did. Jumped the fuser with a paper clip. Started the printer. Stopped when the screen reads "idle." Removed fuser and paper clip. Restarted. Still have the same error message. Help??!!

Another thank you to all those people who contributed to this thread.

I had the same image shifted down the page, jamming and streaking problems.

Downloaded the manual from the link in this thread and then took it apart to find the SL5. The pad was actually there, and in the right place which threw me a bit but I thought what the hell and stuck a bit of felt on top of it. Put it all back together and bingo - no more shifting, jamming or streaking.

Unfortunately about 20 pages later, the page started to concertina as it was being printed. I found another thread on the site that pointed to the transport roller solenoid being the culprit (just below the SL5 Timing roller solenoid I had just repaired) so took the whole thing apart again, put more felt on this other solenoid and now so far so good - no more concertina either.

Moral of the story is - why not put some felt on both solenoids and save yourself dismantling the printer twice.
