I have an Error: "50 SERVICE" It started with a code of "13 Paper Jam". There are no visible jams. Please could someone give a point of direction for me. Does anyone know where I can get parts for this printer if I need to?
According to our site cross-reference, you have a Canon SX engine. This is the same engine used in the HPII/III printers. There is a lot of stuff in the troubleshooting section on 50 errors. Also if you type in 50 error in the search engine it will give you available kits and all message board postings relating to a 50 error. The 50 error and 13 paper jam are not related unless you took the fuser assy. out and installed it wrong. The connector on the bottom left of the fuser floats and you can install the fuser 1 pin off which will give you the 13 paper jam error.
Moe, Thanks for your help. I have cured the 50 Error. I still get the paper jam message. I have tracked it down to the paper feeder. When the paer is being pulled into the machine there are some unwelcome clicks which I suspect drive wheels missing.
When you say the engine is a Canon SX, does this include such things are the rollers and drive cogs? If so, I may get roller replacements and cogs. I think it will then run ok.
50 errors usually come back. When the ac power module first starts going bad, it can work for days and then give you a 50 error. All the parts on the printer are interchangeable with the HPII/III series printers. You might want to take off the plastic panel just to the front and on the right side of the fuser. That will allow you to see the gear train. It's held on by one screw. Then you want to go to our door interlock page in the troubleshooting section and follow the instructions there. Push down on the lever at the top right of the fuser assy. while putting something into the door interlock. The motor will spin for a few seconds allowing you to watch the gears turning. Repeat till you find the bad gear.
Thanks for your help. I think I have tracked the problem down to the paper feed area at the front of the printer, near the tray.
There are two plastic pivoted hooks on the left and right side of the printer (under the front cover, near the top). Each hook has a spring attached to it. The right side hook has snapped and the spring had dropped.
I assume that these pivots assist in opening the toner cartridge where two drive wheels are then exposed. If the right side is not opening properly, I would assume I get clicking noises and no paper feed, hense the paper jam. Does this sound logical?
Your theory sounds good, but the only thing that spring does is assist in popping the door open. The other spring which never breaks is sufficient to hold the door in place. You probably have a bad pickup roller. If the paper doesn't get to the registration roller, it's going nowhere.
I'm not sure where the registration roller is, but the paper is only pulled one and a half inches from its tray. So I suspect you are correct.
Please confirm that the roller you are referring to is a large single centered roller with one flat edge on it. If this is the roller, where should the flat edge be pointing from the start?
Registration roller is the long one going across printer. D roller should have flat spot pointing down. That's park position. It rotates one time to pick up paper and feed to registration.
Moe, Thanks. I have Emailed you the order form for this Kit. One last thing>>
Dirty, spotty prints? Is the main cause the fuser unit? If so, I have already cured it by taking it apart and cleaning the rollers. I would like you oppinion.
Dirty, spotty prints are mostly caused by the toner cartridge. The nomex fuser wand cleans the fuser and would prevent waste toner from being applied to the paper. Only exception would be if the teflon surface of the fuser was peeling. This would soon cause the wand to overload with waste toner and decrease its efficiency.
Moe, I got your paper feed kit today, installed it and it was fantastic! I get paper go in one end and out ther other!!.
As per you last comment RE: dirty prints> This printer has been sitting on a desk for over a year. Does the toner in a cartridge go off? There doesn't seem to be any teflon coating peeling in the fuser. I may just 'borrow' another cartridge from work to test it.
