I am looking for someone who can repair/refurbish Alps md-1300 and md-5000 printers. I would also be interested in finding a comparable printer from another manufacturer. We use them in our T-shirt business.
Thank you

I have an alps printer md-2010 and i lost the re-boot disc and my computer can't reconize the printer. can you send me a website that i can download some software. thank you
Click on Retail printers (about 2 inches down on the left of the page, in the support box).
Click on Downloads (same box on the left of page).
Click on MD color printer & scanner/win or MD color printer & scanner/mac (side by side, the first listings in the middle of the page, under downloads and copyright information).
Click on the download for the 2010 (MDP640.EXE in the middle, under the first section for windows, MDP643.SEA.HQX in the middle, under the second section for mac).
Not knowing the exact problem, but going upon what I have seen and read, I would make sure that my drivers are up to date. We have had similar problems where it would stop working at unusual points and for no specific reasons. These have almost always been solved by reloading the drivers. I don't know why the drivers become corrupted, but at least it is easy to try.
If this link doesn't work follow the directions above (dated 7-11) for the drivers. You may also want to try the troubleshooting section. Just click on the link, then click on troubleshooting in the support box on the left. Good luck
I followed 07-11-04 advise to Randy. I downloaded the MD-4000 printer/scanner updates. I still do not have "MD CopyStudio" which I need to scan. I was using this printer/scanner on my PC running Wins 95. I am trying to run with XP. What am I missing? Did I not download correctly? Am I not looking correctly? Thank you.

Yes, you can still get from CDW at 877-897-2834. They have an on-line store and catalog. I originally got my printer and dry inks from them. Aslo well as the replacements. You can check Staples as well.
I am interested in getting the alps 5000 for a sublimation imprinting business for t-shirts and mugs etc. Do they make micro dry sublimation ink or do I need to get the dye sub upgrade? I always thought the dye sub setting was for printing photos and not heat press transfers.
We use our Alps 5000 to make t-shirts and we do not have the dye sub. If you use the link above, click on "How they work" in the left hand column. This will let you know what to use for shirts, mugs, decals, bumper stickers etc.

My name is Adebayo Oteju, I have been in T-Shirt printing business for 5 years I have not found an alternative to durable T-shirt transfer printing like alps printer. I have tried all the lasre printer Texronics, panasonic all all not realiable the prints are not durable. Pls can anybody with a new printer that can be as good as alps.
I have an MD5000 that will not print.I live in the Red bank area in New Jersey. Is thre anyone nearby that could help me, or at least talk me though instalation? (Just got a new computer with windows XP pro). I keep getting the error light flashing! A phone call would be good 732-291-9277 Thanks in hope MG
Harry - No the Alps are no longer sold retail but you can get them on ebay. However, you never know what you are going to get. Your best bet is to buy one on ebay that doesn't work but is very cheap, then send it in to alps to have it refurbished. It costs $350 but you basically have a new printer with a 90 day warranty (see the link above or below and click on printer repairs in the left hand column).
Mirriam - If you like the printer and want to keep it, send it in to be refurbished (see link above or below). We just had ours returned. It was not the exact same printer, but it is a replacement that is as good as new. If you just want to get rid of it, contact me sonomalk@aol.com (click on the blue 'jim' if the email link doesn't show) and I will forward the info to my dad (you two can haggle over a price) or you can sell it 'as is' on ebay.
Adebayo - That is why I first started this thread. I have not been able to find anything comparable under $5000. Even when the MD5000 first came out the closest comparable printer was $5000. Your best bet is a used/refurbished one (see comments above for refubishing info)
Michael - Sorry I am not very good at helping without seeing it in person. The windows XP drivers are available on the alps site under downloads. Have you tried all the troubleshooting tips? Follow this link (or the ones above). www.alpsusa.com If these do not work, you may have to contact tech support (same link just click on email tech support instead of downloads or troubleshooting in the left hand column).
Good luck

I recently just got an MD-5000 printer back from the refurb program and I still cannot get it to work with XP. I have tested on an NT4 box and it works fine. Since NT had an older driver, I rolled back to the 222 driver (of course using the 2k version though) but still no luck. It just does not seem to want to communicate. I have double checked all the troubleshooting steps, does anyone have any other suggestions? Is anyone having similar issues with XP?

Just an update on my question. I did just now trade out my IEEE1284 cable for a new 6ft one and was able to get 1 test page to print. After that all efforts fail and I receive the "printer is not responding message" again. I have removed and reinstalled the driver(s) so many times that I think I can do it in my sleep. Any suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated!! :) Thanks in advance...
Does anyone know the specs on an MD2010 printer? Is it any better(or worse) than an MD5000? The printer seems to have a lot more buttons and controls, (is that good, or more problems to cope with)Will it print shiny gold & silver as well as regular colours? What is a reasoable price used ? Any imput on this matter would be of value to me.
Comparing the 2010 to the 5000 is like comparing apples to oranges. Or should I say apples to pc's. The md5000 was made for the PC while the md2010 was made for the Macintosh. Although the 5000 can be used on the Mac using an SCSI converter, the 2010 was not designed for use with anything but the Mac. For more info on this, you can look at the FAQ section on the alps website. While the website offers specs for the 5000, I could not find any for the 2010. Given a choice between the two, I would go with the 5000. This is becasue alps seems to provide better support for the 5000, plus the ability to get it refurbished.
Hope this helps. ps kathy, I can't help you (yet) but I am trying to get more info to see if I can help.

Okay So I just bought this alps md 1000 and when I plug it in, it turns on and works fine, and then when I plug in the parallel cable it shuts off by its self. now when I take the parallel cable out, it turns back on again, driver is installed correctly. (I believe) and I dont know what to do please help
I bought a small T-shirt buisness, and with it I got an ALPS 1300 printer. Upon hooking it up and testing it it had a broken strand in the pring head that caused it to leave a small streak unprinted on the picture. I sent it to ALPS with my 350 check and they sent an MD 5000. I have been printing shirt transfers ever since. I loce the thing, and I recieved it back from them in 3 days (Californis ro Ohio). I would love to be able to print transgers that you could put on dark materials in one step (not using power white opaque) anyone had any lucj with such ventures? ps: they also sent me an upgrade key for free that upgrades it to a 5000P (dye sub capable)
I am looking for an alps MD 5000 printer. If any of you people decide to sell yours for a reasonable price. Please email me with the details. I will also consider some of the other models as well.

I have a Alps 2010 printer that I used to use on a Mac. It has scsi ports on the printer. Is there anyway I can print on it with my PC. It cam with software for Mac and PC for 95. I bet the PC software was for parallel ports.
Im just wondering if there is a way to still use it on my PC or I will just have to find a PC version of it. Which I have found one from a lady that hasn't been used much for her PC.
Then I would just sell this one for the MAC. Im getting tired of transfering the files over to the MAC format for printing.

Can a "Nonvolatile Error" be resolved? ("Contents of the nonvolatile memory have been lost")
I tried printing on new photo paper about a year ago. Results were terrible, so I put the printer back in the closet. But now I need just business graphics, and my Alps MD 1000 self-tests that well on high grade copy paper. But it won't print from the computer. It does respond somewhat, by loading the paper (manual load also works okay), and the Ready light slow blinks for awhile.
Then it turns to fast blink, which means "the contents of the MD-1000's nonvolatile memory have been lost." And that will go on forever, printing nothing. Have tried printing from Notepad, command line, Word, etc. same result. Using parallel port. Don't know if the cable is bidirectional or not. Cable works fine with my HP 2200. Win XP Pro. I used the driver originally installed, since then have uninstalled and reinstalled using the one supplied by Windows. The Alps setup.exe (circa 2000) reports "wrong operating system" and won't run.

A friend of mine recently passed away and I inherited a MD1300 printer with no cable. Does anyone know where I can find this thing. It has 2 Centronics 36 port terminal, but they are larger than normal printer terminals. Is this a 1284C/? All of the pictures I see of those have pins and this needs a male rectangular block in the connector. It is supposed to be a 1284 (ecc/ecp) connector.
Thanks in advance.

Frank, Thank you so much. I figured I had tried everything and was just waiting for someone to freecycle an old Mac. This is a really nice surprise, and about the last thing I expected. That adapter blends right in. It's doubtful I ever would have spotted it.

There is nothing in the forum software that rejects "quotes". If you look in the post you replied to, you'll see some quotes used. Also, you have the ability to edit your posts with the edit link to the right of your name.
Does a ALPS 2010 XP driver exist? You can't get one from ALPS. They are out of the printer business and no longer support them.
My 2010 stopped working after 3 years. The MS 2010 driver no longer worked. While fooling around, I found that the Panasonic KX-P2123 MS driver works, but when printing color it doesn't operate like it should. Instead of the usual in and out paper operation, it prints all colors on each individual line, and makes one heck of a racket.
Re: Alps Printers by Frank C (11/29/08 3:03 AM) reply
Alps are not out of the printer business......Alps USA is, but Alps is not an American company, they are Japanese, and they are still making MD printers.

I have two Alps 5900 printers I would like to sell AS IS. They were working when I took them out of service but haven't been used in a while. I paid $799 for each one - all reasonable offers will be considered. Click reply to email me with your offer.
Re: Re: Alps Printers by Anonymous (2/19/09 12:36 PM) reply
I tried your link to the Yahoo group but it seems it doesn't exist any more. At least I get a message when using th elink that there is no such group Alps.
I got a MD-2300 from a friend, but it didn't work properly because of the MS driver which installed itself without asking first. After XP-SP3 it stopped completely, but MS confirms this is a bug in their driver.
I installed virtual PC to be able to install the Win95 driver, but that also fails to work. However, I guess there is also something wrong with the hardware. I suspect that the sensor that controls the paper feed is not working properly. Unfortunately I don't have any technical manual if such a one exists at all. So I guess I just try to find the fault in the hardware myself.
Does anyone know if the MD 5000 can be repaired? I love the printer, but lately it has been giving me the error message: This print job cannot be completed. Because the printer has encountered an error of CR Motor.
It is toast, or is there a trick, or...?
I appreciate your reply.

Re: Alps Printers by Frank C (4/14/09 12:10 AM) reply
You seem as knowledgable as anyone on this forum. Any experience with the "error of CR motor" message? It comes now anytime I attempt to print, and gives me the blinking second light. Is my 5000 toast?
I am back with a 2010 alps this time. I get an error blinking light when powered on. How can I reset this. I do a power on / ready hold for 4 seconds to do a dump, and all I get is the same error light.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
I am so frustrated that this is the 3rd printer that I have bought and it doesn't work.

Re: Re: Alps Printers by Anonymous (5/28/09 12:52 PM) reply
I have an Alps MD-5000 which gives me the error message: "This print job cannot be completed. Because the printer has encountered an error of CR Motor."
I also have a big supply of tapes (6 full packages of the CYMK, plus at least twenty single tapes in unopened packaging of primer, top coat, silver, gold, white, econo black etc.)
I have read through this topic and it seems that all the best advice is to go to alps usa. Unfortunately, has anyone noticed that alps no longer list any drivers. I need drivers to make MD-1000 work on XP as the generic windows drivers do not work.
I do appreciate how swiftly you replied, but that link is dead. Seems there is no Alps yahoo group any more. Guess I will have to try and run up an ME disk instead.
I understand Alps USA eventually discontinuing active Support for a very obsolute product, but considering that activity in this forum shows the product is still much used, and apparently there was an XP driver at one point, I don't understand why they can't at least keep the driver available on their website.
If only out of curiosity, does anyone know the reason for that? Do they sell a new competing printer?
Hosting the driver would cost them virtually nothing in storage and bandwidth, I doubt it would be a legal liability (they could still state that they will not "support" it), and discontinuing it must be costing them quite a bit of good will. I would certainly think twice about buying Alps in the future.
Here is a summary of info - as I've answered the same questions a few times, anything covered in this post will not be answered later.......
1. There is only one model of Alps MD printer currently manufactured and supported by Alps Japan. It is the MD-5500. If the model number of your printer is lower than this, and it is not working, you can try looking in the Alps YahooGroup (And a word of caution - search the archives BEFORE posting a question, some of the old hands there can get very grumpy if you ask a question that's been answered a thousand times before), but the likelihood of your printer being an anchor is high (Especially if you bought it off Fleabay - Why do you think the seller sold it in the first place????) 2. All questions you may have have probably been answered in the Alps YahooGroup. If they haven't, then there it's highly likely there is no answer...... 3. Alps has not gone out of business/stopped making printers/self immolated. Once again all the info is in the Alps YahooGroup. 4. Alps consumables are still manufactured. You can find information on stockists in......you guessed it......the Alps YahooGroup.
Sorry to sound like a walking advert for the Alps YahooGroup; the only connection I have with it is a that I have gleaned much information from it over the years. But seriously folks, it IS the best resource for Alps MD printer owners.
Various opened partial tapes 13 (mainly silver and econo black)
My (formerly beloved) MD5000 appears to be toast. I only get the “…error of the CR motor” message and I am ready to move on. If you make me an offer for the 48 unopened tape cartridges, I’ll certainly throw the opened ones into a baggie into the shipping box as a bonus.

so i was owundering there is only the black , magenta, cyan , and another finish ribbon and .could it be possible the print stop its process because the was no yellow ribbon i notice on the top of the ribbons there is refference points and maybe it see that it is missed a ribbon in the print process plmk if any one has a problem like it or some help..

I have a Printiva (basically the same printer). If it can't find a colour cartridge it is looking for, it will stop and display an error yes. Sometimes it is is just the reflective label (with colour code on)peeling off, but in your case if you don't actually have the colour cartridge, you need to get one.

Can anyone tell me if there's a comparable alternative for the Alps Md 5000 printer? Feel free to toot it's horns. I need a printer that can compete with the Micro Dry technology or similar dry transfer techniques so printed materials will not develop halos due to ink absorption... which is a huge issue when I run several passes on composite printing work for my portfolio art works. Also, dye-sublimination would be great!
Thanks!
