 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by Dimon (3/25/04 6:27 AM) reply | + / - | It's definitely formatter board issue. Good Luck
|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (3/25/04 3:18 PM) reply | + / - | It could be the formatter, but also be the main board or the way the main board is secured to the frame. Ldts do a test. Remove the formatter from the botton of the machine. Real easy just remove the screws, lift up by the side and disconnect the connectors which go to the board. Plug in the printer and put in paper. Lift up the memory door in the back and a little to the right will be an engine test button. Press the button and see if you get a page to print with vertical lines. If it prints, the formatter is the problem. If it does not print, you have other problems. I seen cases where the plastic posts which hold the main board in the front of the machine break causing all sorts of problems. The only way to correct this problem is with crazy glue. If all the lights come on and stay solid without blinking then you have a fatal error and pressing the big button will give you a secondary light pattern. Post it here and someone will tell you what is wrong. It can be as simple as the plastic tab which activates the laser/scanner switch breaking off.

I'm currently attempting to fix the snap with "goop" and am hoping that when the pod is on correctly the error disappears, but somehow I doubt it. Any thoughts?

Okay. First, I used a little epoxy and fixed th black snap. all pod s are now securely attached. Then I plugged the machine back in and followed your instructions. When I push the big green button as all three indicators are constant "on," the big one stays lit and the other two go out. What should I be doing next????????
Thanks.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (10/25/05 8:48 PM) reply | + / - | That is a laser/scanner error. One thing i have seen on may occasions with this error is a tab broken on the toner door. If you open the toner door, on the frame near the top a little to the right of center is a switch which is activated by a plastic tab on the toner door when it is closed. I have seen this tab break off or be bent to one side so the swtich is not activated when the door is closed. About the only way to test this if the tab is broken is to unplug the printer, put a piece of cardboard or some other material to push in the switch, close the door and apply power and see if the printer comes to ready. If it does, you will have to replace the cover or as I have done on occasion, super glued a small piece of plastic fashioned to the size of the tab. If that is not the case with your printer, then you have a laser/scanner error and you will want to check the cables (usaually not the cause) and the next step would be to replace the laser/scanner. My money is on the tab broken or missing.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by robis (11/12/05 2:24 AM) reply | + / - | Hi.
I have much similar problem as described in previous posts: I've bought a LaserJet 1100, it should be almost new and it really looks new. The toner cassette is new. I've made maybe 100 prints and one day the printer just didn't start printing like normally, but make no normal start noise, but some 2 quiet "ticks", and the three leds started to flash constantly. After pressing the button only the led belonging to button flashed, the 2 other leds became dark. No control printout after pressing the button, the computer says, the printer is not responding. After powering the printer off and on again there were similar results (leds, "ticks").
However, once for some time after powering the printer on it goes ready and prints normally! It prints 4 to 60 pages, as deserved, and then while printing it makes a descending noise, like some airplanes do, and stops printing, it doesn't intake paper and the 3 leds flash again constantly, after pressing the button flashes only the led of the button. Sometimes the last page has a dark stripe in the middle across after the incomplete page. The printer becomes again unresponsive, and randomly after few minutes, hours or days, when powered on and off and on, it becomes ready again and prints correctly some pages.
Once after such a experiment after pressing the button while the 3 leds were on, the led in the middle was flashing, the rest was dark.
I've read the posts above, make some probes with the cover switch. Once it appeared it worked, on other times - no. It doesn't help every time, I'd say - almost never.
It drives me a little crazy, because it does not appear to be a true "fatal error", when from time to time the printer behaves correctly! I've made a phonecall to a HP service and they've told me, that could be a heater or fuser error, and fixing the problem would cost almost that much I've bought the printer for!
Please, help me to solve the problem, if someone has any idea what to do...
Thanks in advance.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by robis (11/12/05 2:41 AM) reply | + / - | Hi again
I've missed to say, that I've an extra 8MB memory chip installed in the slot in the rear socket of the printer. But it worked without problems some time. After removing it the situation doesn't change a bit.
I've even cleaned the contact places for toner cassette, but it didn't help also.
Thanks in advance for help once again.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by Stephen (edited 11/12/05 5:51 AM) reply | + / - | The winding down noise is the laser/scanner spinning to a stop.
In the following anything in italics is my addition.
From the manual:
Fatal errors/accessory errors
The printer may encounter a severe error, one that inhibits further operation. All LEDs will turn on or, in the case of an Accessory Error, all LEDs will start flashing. During this mode, pressing and holding the Go key down will reveal a pattern on the LEDs. Some LEDs might be on and some might be off, but it will be a non-changing pattern as long as the Go key is held down. This pattern can be used to identify what type of fatal error it was. For example, if all LEDs turn on, holding the Go key down might turn off all of the LEDs except for the Attention LED. This pattern would indicate that there is an Engine Error. For most of the errors listed here, turning the printer off for a short while will not clear the error (it is more serious than that), but it is recommended as a last resort. Remember, the error pattern will only be displayed as long as the Go key is held down.
Go light on solid when Go button is pushed down:
Beam Error. There are a number of causes for this error, and some of the causes may disappear.
1. Power cycle the printer by unplugging the printer and plugging it back in. 2. Make certain the Laser/Scanner Assembly is correctly seated on the printer chassis. 3. Replace the Laser/Scanner cable. 4. Replace the Laser/Scanner Assembly. 5. Replace the ECU.
The middle light flashing when the button is held down:
Document Scan Engine NVRAM Error. 1. Unplug the printer, remove and reattach the laser scanner, and then replug the printer. 2. Replace the laser scanner unit.
Odds are that the laser/scanner is failing, you might be adle to fix it by cleaning it up, the problem would be with the beam detect sensor, not the parts involved with shining the laser on the drum.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by robis (11/12/05 11:40 AM) reply | + / - | Thanks for your response, Stephen.
The first action you listed I've just performed many times, it has helped rather doubtfully...
I'm already studying the service manual to try to do the rest - with the check up of the laser/scanner assembly and cable. With replacing the parts it will be more complex...
Maybe anyone has yet more ideas, what could be wrong with the printer? It works well from time to time...
Thanks

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by moe (11/12/05 11:50 AM) reply | + / - | The most likely cause would be dirty optics. There's probably just enough dust to block the bounce back to the DC controller which monitors the laser at the end of each sweep. It's very doubtful that you have an intermittent laser. They either work or they don't. It's like a light bulb. Once it burns out, it doesn't resurrect. It's not the easiest thing to open the printer and open the laser assembly to get to the mirrors and lenses. You've got the service manual, good luck.

I tried the piece of cardboard in the microswitch slot and that problem went away. However, when the printer is switched on to warm up, it makes a sound like a bicycle wheel with a piece of cardboard flicking over the spokes Rrrrrr. Has anyone any ideas what I should look for when I remove the cover (apart from a small bicycle wheel and cardboard :) )

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by hpwizard (11/14/05 2:46 PM) reply | + / - | Try it without the cartridge first to see if you get the noise. If it is ok (ie. no noise) you have a binding cart. You could smack it about a bit (the cartridge) to see if it loosens up but it may have to be replaced. Hope this helps?! Dazz UK

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by robis (11/15/05 7:30 AM) reply | + / - | Thanks for advice, hpwizard and DMV.
The cartboard piece doesn't help, unfortunately. :-(
The printer, after I had removed the cartridge and powered it up, behave exactly just like with the cartridge inside, ie. it made no normal noise, but the two remarkable "ticks", the leds cycled on and off twice beginning from the most to the left, and on the end they are on three together. After pressing the front button the led of the button stays on, the other are off. It looks like there's no difference for the printer, whether it has the cartridge inside or not...
I've removed the cartridge and mounted it back, for several times, it is a little hard to place it correctly, because it doesn't move on the last piece of its way easy, I have to apply a little force to place it correctly. Moving it, tearing and so on, when it is already in place doesn't change anything, the printer acts exactly as before mentioned.
Do you think it is the situation I should replace the cartridge? It worked quite well for a 100 copies before, sometimes it works now, too. But, as I described, it's a rare case and not predictable, when... :-(
I'm studying the service manual to try with the screwdriver, but I'm a little affraid, if I manage to put it all together after i disassamble the printer...
Thanks for advice once again.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (11/15/05 8:26 AM) reply | + / - | From you initial description your issue is the laser/scanner assembly and in my mind at least it is the laser/scanner motor which is intermitent and causing the issue. Moe has had some success with lubing the shaft of the motor, I have not. You will have to remove the laser scanner, open up the top and you will see the motor. There is no replacement part for the motor itself. You have to get the complete laser/scanner assembly. The one plus is most of the 1100 prnters for sale on ebay do not work, but they do not work for reasons other then the laser/scanner.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (11/16/05 10:18 PM) reply | + / - | Is the paper out message on the computer or a light message on the printer. If from the computer, it does not know if the printer is out of paper. You probably have a communication issue with the cable going to the printer. To test the printer, disconnect the cable from the printer which goes to the computer and with paper in the printer, just press the button and a test sheet should print. If it does, your issue is communication. I would delete the printer from the computer, reconnect the cable and reinstall

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by robis (1/10/06 11:34 AM) reply | + / - | Hi friends
Earlier in this thread I've described many times in tiny details my problem. I gave the printer to be fixed by a professional after I went through the service manual I've downloaded from the web.
I already know, what was the problem: the servicemen replaced some heaters (fuser module or so), some internal wires and the laser module (because of some built in error).
Am I wrong if I think that they were the most expensive and important parts of the printer? I was lucky, because the salesman at the time I bought the printer gave me warranty time some longer than I thought initialy, so I luckily hadn't to pay for all this stuff. :-)
Thank You for Your friendly advices anyway. :-)

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by hpwizard (1/10/06 12:56 PM) reply | + / - | Robis, It would not have been worth paying for either of those parts to fitted by a serviceman but they are not the most expensive. The boards work out more but at least you had a result in your case! Lets hope it lasts for years! Dazz UK

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (7/21/06 5:14 AM) reply | + / - | Fuser error. The heating element in the fuser has probably blown and you need to replace the fuser. Make sure you have the printer plugged directly into the wall socket and not a ups as that can cause a fuser error.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by scra99tch (7/26/06 9:46 AM) reply | + / - | Hi I am having a seperate problem with my laserjet. It used to print just fine until just a couple of days ago. The green light (middle) will flash like its going to print. The printing icon in system tray will show the amount tranfered to the printer in kbs I think. When the transfer is done the blinking green light goes out. I tried disconnecting all the wires to the board and doing the engine test and it printed not vertical but horizontal lines. Something I have found though is that unistalling the printer port in control panel hardware then restarting computer will get it to print once again. I am trying to avoid doing this everytime I have to print.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

 | HELP: Dark dirty stripe by nwavguy (8/6/06 8:26 PM) reply | + / - | My HP1100a had just started leaving a dirty vertical "stripe" of toner lumps down the center BACK side of each page. It's a bit darker at the top of the page and gets lighter towards the bottom. It's about 5/8" wide and the toner is in lumpy "flakes" that you can scrape off with your fingernail and feel with your fingers.
It also started making a new noise when it started doing this. It sounds like something is lightly rubbing or possibly even an electrical arc that's continuous throughout the print cycle.
This started happening a few dozen pages into my first non-HP toner cartridge. Could be related or might be a coincidence?
I switched back to the old toner cartridge and it hasn't helped. The printer seems to be clean inside with the cartridge removed. The visible rollers are clean, etc. There are no error conditions.
It has always left some light marks when duplexing, but this is VERY different. Any ideas?

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (8/6/06 8:59 PM) reply | + / - | Teflon cover on the fuser is torn in the middle. Moe does not have a kit due to the complicated procedure to remove the covers. You can use the link by my name and I can send you the service manual for the printer if you get the part and want to attempt to replace it.

The printer properties on the computer reports "out of paper" althought it isn't. Holding the button down, results in all LED being out. haven't gone as far as to remove the formatter board yet and try test button in memory expansion slot. The printer will not print a test sheet or form feed. Replace tone cartridge (strip pulled) without any resolution.
Any suggestions?

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (8/9/06 7:38 PM) reply | + / - | Does the motor turn when you apply power to the printer? If not it means you have a paper jam or the printer thinks there is a jam. Most common place is in the front center by the fuser where there is the exit sensor. It sometimes pops out of its slot or the spring gets out of position and it does not return after paper passes over it and gives a constant jam error. If the motor turns, then you have other issues such as toner not making good contact, front cover switch not being activated so the printer thinks the cover is open, etc.

My hp 1100 will only load exactly 64 kb of a page, and then it stops and won't load anymore of the document. Of course this makes it so that it can't print. Is this a memory issue? If so how can I reset the memory or increase the threshold?
|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by moe (8/22/06 8:56 AM) reply | + / - | You can't reset the memory. The memory is contained on the formatter board. Your options are replace the formatter or add a memory chip. If you open the little door in the back, you'll see the memory expansion slots. I'd go with add memory.

 | Re: Re: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (8/28/06 4:18 PM) reply | + / - | If the motor does not turn and the yellow light is blinking it means the printer thinks there is a jam. There are two other sensor in the paper path which can cause the issue. They are both on the same black plastic piece but a bear to get to. One is the sensor which tells the printer paper is loaded and that should be ok since I think the motor will still turn, the other is the registration sensor which is I think to the left of the pickup roller on the base of the printer before the transfer roller. If that sensor is stuck or bad you will get the same reaction.
|
 | Re: Re: Re: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by LtSiver (edited 8/28/06 4:29 PM) reply | + / - | hmm. After tearing out the pickup roller, that sensor seems to be fine. the paper in sensor is also ok, it is not stuck. the one in front of the fuser is ok. Is there an easy way to test the sensors? (like continuity test on wires or something?) The door sensor seems to be fine too. Arg, diagnosing this thing is frustrating....

 | Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (8/28/06 4:36 PM) reply | + / - | One other thing is the front door switch on the left side. You said you checked it, however, I have seen instances where the posts which hold the main board on the bottom break and the main board drops a bit and the door switch is then not depressed enought. Remove the toner and turn the printer over. Lift up by the front of the printer the metal bottom piece. If it lifts without the printer lifting, then the plastic posts which hold the board are broken. Can be fixed with crazy glue, but the bottom piece needs to come off which means taking all the covers and door off.
|
 | Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by LtSiver (edited 8/29/06 2:16 AM) reply | + / - | ok, so the door switch on the top is not getting depressed enough? even when i hold the door switch shut the printer does this. i did do what you asked however, and i press and pull on the bottom metal plate on the bottom of the printer and the whole metal piece does move. is there a way to alter the switch without having to superglue the screwposts? Also, is there a teardown manual for this printer? i'd hate to have to do it the guess how to tear down way.... i end up doing alot of damage that way. Where is the door switch for this located? (under the hinge?)

 | Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (8/29/06 5:34 AM) reply | + / - | The switch is on the board on the bottom on the lower front left side and is activated by a tab on the front door. Use the link below for the service manual. The hard part is getting the printer apart. Just use the instructions for removal of the engine control unit. When it is out, just remove the two screws in the front from the black posts which are attached and reattach the posts to the frame with super glue. Let the glue cure overnight and then reassemble and it will work. We had a client one time that had about 4 or 5 of these go bad a month since they were transported for insurance claims and that is the way we fixed them.

Thankss..

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by Chazmo (9/14/06 6:03 PM) reply | + / - | I have a HP 1100 that only after an extended period unplugged or a disassembly/assembly will the printer reset to a GO state.
Once I send a print request like a test page the printer will finish all of the text of the page, however will go into an error state and the yellow light will flash.
I have tried to clean all of the contacts, made sure the plastic tab is till on the toner door(yup), I even tired to clean inside the laser/scanner to no avail with canned air.
Anyone have any other ideas, thank you in advance for your help.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by moe (9/14/06 6:23 PM) reply | + / - | I suspect that what is happening is the fuser exit sensor arm is not immediately returning to it's normal resting position. There is a spring that is supposed to pull it back after the paper exits. If it doesn't come back, then the printer thinks that there is still paper running through and gives that blinking light. Look for it at the lower center part of the fuser assembly. Skinny black plastic arm is what you are looking for.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (9/14/06 6:27 PM) reply | + / - | The yellow flashing lights means many things such as the toner door not closed, toner cartridge not making good contact, paper out condition and the most common, the printer thinks there is a jam. There really is no jam but usually the sensor flag in the front middle of the fuser does not kick back into correct position fast enough and the printer thinks paper is stuck in the fuser. You need to check the movement of that flag to make sure it kicks back immediately after the paper passes and does not stick in the down position.
|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by Chazmo (9/14/06 7:29 PM) reply | + / - | The flag pops right back up as far as I can tell. Since this is over the internet and right is a relative term.
Can I bypass this sensor somehow?
Do some sort of other test?
Thanks for the fast replies folks.
|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (9/14/06 8:44 PM) reply | + / - | Lets try one more test. Connect the printer to a pc and send a two or three page job and tell us what happens. If the yellow lights comes on, tell us where the sheets are located and what is on them. Be specific not general. As to your question about bypassing the sensor, the answer is no you can not bypass it.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by Chazmo (9/15/06 12:46 AM) reply | + / - | Alright,
Before when the printer was not hooked up to anything I would have to wait for hours or unplug a couple of electrical connections in order to get the printer to reset. Now I do not have to wait or tear it apart.
I could for the first time simply reset the printer by unplugging it and after a short pause of a couple of seconds plug it right back in. The printer would than start its normal startup (hurray!). Still not working correctly but it was reset.
I also noticed that once it did go into error state and I opened the toner door to ensure there was no paper stuck somewhere, that if I slightly rotated the pick up roller then the motor would start back up for a couple of seconds on the next plug in. It would reset the printer and be ready to print in the “GO” state.
When I hooked the printer up to a print server and sent a print command to the 1100, the motor will now run for a several seconds in an attempt I believe to pick up the first sheet of paper.
Fail and then go into an error state. I do not honestly know if this is a new problem or not.
Just not having to fight the printer to a reset state and than to have it boot up normally and be ready in a go state after simply unplugging it is encouraging to say the least.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (9/15/06 5:19 AM) reply | + / - | Lets get back to basics as you still do not give necessary information. When the printer enters the error state, what is the error? Is it just the one trouble light or do all the lights come on solid. This question is for when you send the job from the computer. Now if you try to do a self test does the paper go thru the printer and the error light start to blink or is it now not picking up any paper. Also what did you mean by disassembly in your earlier post?
|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by chazmo (9/15/06 11:32 AM) reply | + / - | The error state when connected to the print server is the yellow light flashing only.
When a print command is sent to the 1100, it will attempt to print for several seconds. It sounds as if the printer is attempting to pick up the first page, when this times out (I guess) the printer will enter the error state of the yellow light blinking.
I unplug the printer and can re-plug it right back in and the printer will reset to the “GO” state.
When I try to do a test page (plugged into a computer or not) the same error above will happen.
When I was talking about disassembly I meant that I have taken this printer down to the frame. Removed the following and reassembled: Toner and Toner door removed Pods Back cover & Front cover Paper Guides Stabilizer Bars Laser/Scanner Output Roller Delivery Assembly Paper Exit Sensor Fusing Element Gear Train Motor Pressure Roller Transfer Roller Formatter Pan ECU Pan

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by moe (9/15/06 3:26 PM) reply | + / - | You say that it is "trying to print". Can you confirm that the pickup roller is in fact turning by looking down the paper path. The blinking light is a paper jam indication. That would mean the pickup roller tried to pick the paper up, failed to get it to the registration sensor in the alloted time and caused the jam error and subsequent yellow light blinking. So watch what happens when the print job is sent. The paper should move towards the roller and it will simultaneously turn and feed the paper to registration.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (9/15/06 3:57 PM) reply | + / - | To add to what Moe told you, until you solve the paper feeding issue all other items will have to wait.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by 3b (1/22/07 4:51 PM) reply | + / - | I have two HP 1100s. Both work fine with no memory. I installed memory and both give me the all lights blinking signal. HP's description of this says it involves memory reset or initialization, and if it's initialization the lights will blink for a half second or longer. Mine blink faster than that. Removed memory and all is OK again. Bad memory perhaps?

Any time I send a print job to it, nothing will happen for about 10 minutes, then it will start printing normally. However, I can lift the blank paper supply a couple of inches & let it drop back into place and the printer will start up right away. Any suggestions?

|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (2/20/08 5:29 AM) reply | + / - | NDH,
The computer does not know if your printer has paper or not. The message is generic when there is a communication problem between the printer and computer. Remove the printer cable and press the button on the printer for a self test. If the self test works, the issue is the cable, driver or port on the computer or printer. Reinsert the cable and see if it works.
Patrick,
Try cleaning the pickup roller with warm soapy water and dry. Aso what error lights are on after it stops attempting to pick the paper. If all 3 lights are on solid press the big button and report back the lights which are still on.

 | Re: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by bertobert (2/27/08 5:00 AM) reply | + / - | My printer has exactly the same problem. symptoms: no normal noise, 2 ticks, led..
Odd thing is, the printer works if I plug it into a laptop using PCMCIA cable. It does not work if I use the normal parallel cable.
Does anybody know why it works with PCMCIA? I can't use the pcmcia cable as I no longer use a laptop. Would it also work if I used a USB adapter and plugged it into my cpu's USB port? thanks.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (2/27/08 5:21 AM) reply | + / - | You have to have the program which came on the original cd loaded on the computer. Also it will not work if using a usb to parallel adapter.

|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by dmzcompute (8/17/08 11:06 AM) reply | + / - | 3 inches is the upper heating element. In other words you probably have a hole in the teflon sleeve and the sleeve will need to be replaced. You can contact Moe@fixyourownprinter.com to see if he has a sleeve and instructions so you can replace yourself. It is difficult to get the covers off your printer so he does not carry a kit on the site but still may have one. As to the card stock issue if the media is more than 43lbs weight the printer will not handle it since that is the mex weight and you have to have that come out the front slot.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by LCarlson (8/19/08 9:33 AM) reply | + / - | Hello Friends, I've read through all of the above and have a different issue. LaserJet 1100 prints fine now following paper jam. The user removed half of jammed paper (torn piece was half lengthwise...) Test prints fine, and a crinkly noise happens with each print. Printer was looked at twice, unplugged, we took out print cartridge, no sign of other half of torn piece. Is this a concern, or just ignore crinkly noise? Thanks, L Carlson

|
 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by LCarlson (9/24/08 10:46 AM) reply | + / - | Thank you btec and Anonymous, By happy chance I was able to have a licensed printer tech check our hp 1100 (he had been called out to service a Xerox printer). He removed the print cartridge, unclipped some springs and removed the black plastic roller assembly, and lo and behold! There, *tightly* wrapped around the orange roller underneath was our missing half-sheet... oh, along with about three others underneath. He did extract all, along with some chunks of orange roller. The orange roller was damaged besides with some of the toner fused into it. So, with replacement of the orange roller and addition of a paper separator, our little 1100 is happy happy and works fine.
Thanks again, and happy printing. L Carlson

 | Re: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by Anonymous (10/8/08 12:10 AM) reply | + / - | THANKS for the tip! Downloaded several win98 drivers for my 1100; none had any .inf files (which the printer install wizard insisted upon) and so the downloads were worthless to me. Of couse, HP has pulled all of their windows 98 drivers from their site. (Thanks a lot, HP.)
Luckily for me, though, windows 98 DOES include a driver for the "5L PCI." It runs my 1100 just fine!
Thanks again!
original message: Re: hp 1100 laserjet by moe (8/16/06 8:58 AM) That's always a driver issue. Perhaps you aren't totally deleting the old driver. Try using a 5L driver instead. Any older driver will work.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by nivek (edited 11/16/08 9:15 PM) reply | + / - | It sounds like it thinks it has a jam. There are two jam sensor flags one under the left paper feed roller support and one in the fuser exit area. The first one can be checked by removing the two screws on either side above of the pick up roller and removing the assembly. Check this last. Second and most common is paper getting stuck in the fuser or the sensor flag sticking down. If you open the door and tilt the machine up in the middle of the fuser in front of the orange roller you should see a black piece sticking up. Thats you flag if it isnt in the feed path and tilted towards you then its stuck down. I did look up through this post and DMZ has an indepth conversation with Ltsilver about this issue if this hasnt helped.

 | Re: hp 1100 laserjet by nivek (3/4/09 3:48 PM) reply | + / - | http://www.hylink.com/web/LJ1100%20Service%20Manual.pdf Thats the link to the service manual. But breifly if its a easy jam you can remove the exit roller shaft by unclipping the white bushing on the right frame just above the fuser/exit guide. Then remove the two screws(springs) holding down the fuser/exit guide. Lift that out. Be carefull not to damage the film or pressure roller. (NO SHARP OBJECTS) Dont even thing about it.
