Laserjet 5P cartridge by Don (12/11/03 12:44 PM) reply + / -
I recall that Xeroc service techs (in the '80s) would polish the copier drum with Brasso in order to clean up the printing of copies. Does anyone know if this would clear up printing on the 5P? They would use cotton for the polishing.

Different coatings. Brasso would take the coating right off the 5P drum. We just replace the drum with an aftermarket. They last longer. Why are you blaming the drum?

Thanks, Moe.

Vertical lines would show up on the printed page. Removing the cartridge, toner would be on the drum. Replacing the cartridge solved the problem. Just had the problem and found what appeared to be a small piece of paper 1/8"x1/8") adhered to the drum. After removing the paper (with cotton), a 1/8" "fuzzy" line, with a vertical line at the edge, printed out. Examining the drum revealed a similar deposiut of toner on the drum.

Just a guess that the drum may be damaged in such an event.
