 | HL LJ 4 Plus by G Kelly (11/23/03 3:10 AM) reply | + / - | I've managed to acquire a HP Lazerjet4 Plus printer. On on conecting the printer to the PC Windows XP Pro, SP1, detected the printer and loaded the drivers.
When I try to print anything the display window on the printer displays; "PC LOAD LETTER", with the "PC" eliment in the display flashing and nothing prints.
There does not seen to be anything on the HP site to help me; so is there anyone out there that can?
Also, does any one know were I can get a manual for it?
I Look forward to replies.
Thanks, Graham.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by Pat (11/23/03 7:31 AM) reply | + / - | Sounds like you don't have any paper in your paper tray. Either add paper to your paper tray at the bottom of your printer or insert paper on the flip down manual paper tray in the front of your printer.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by dmzcompute (11/23/03 8:25 PM) reply | + / - | Your problem could also relate to the printer seeing the paper tray having a differnet size paper in the lower tray then the letter size requested by the computer. If you have paper in the lower tray and you get the message, just press the Shift and Continue key and see if it prints. If it does it means the printer is saying it does not have letter in the lower tray. You can also take the printer off line and hit the menu key until you get to test menu. Press the item key till you get to print self test and then hit enter. You should get a test page and on the left side just above the test printing you should see a listing for trays installed and the type of paper. It has to match the paper in the tray and the computer has to request that size paper for that tray. If the paper in the tray is a different sizwe then what the test print shows, you may have a problem with the paper sizing switches on the rigt front of the tray cavity.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by G Kelly (11/24/03 9:57 AM) reply | + / - | Thanks to you dmzcompute.
I got my way through to printing the page, and then I tried printing the same page again and up came the same fault again.
Went through the test you kindly pointed me in the direction of, and the “Paper Try” says “PC TRAY (A4)”. Also the “PRINT MENU” says “=A4”.
I’d be grateful for any other ideas that you or any one ells my have!
Once again, thanks.
Graham.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by dmzcompute (11/24/03 2:12 PM) reply | + / - | It appears to be a driver issue. Make sure when you go to print that you select A4 paper and not letter paper. There is a difference between the two types and if the computer sends a signal for letter and the printer has A4 it will tell you to load letter. If you are uisng windows just go to properties of the printer and choose paper and then set the size. Good Luck.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by Keith (11/25/03 8:06 AM) reply | + / - | Had the same problem, as people have hinted at, it is that the pc is asking for 'letter' paper not a4, it can be a pain to get everything to default to a4, but the prob is at the pc, not the printer, you may have got your pc language settings on US not UK, I think if your pc is set to UK, paper size defaults to a4. You may have to set default paper size in both your printer properties and the application you're using.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by G Kelly (11/26/03 8:44 AM) reply | + / - | Hi again.
I’ve done the language bit, and when I set them manually all’s ok, but the system (PC) always defaults back to letter when the application is closed and then reopened and re-used (Word, Excel ect.)!!
Help.
Thanks.
Graham.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by dmzcompute (11/26/03 12:58 PM) reply | + / - | Go to the printer icon and hit the right mouse button. Go to properties. Find the place where the paper size is indicated. Change to A4 and hit ok. This should save it as the default. When you print a document and change the setting, it is only for that print job. The PC printer settings will default back to the original setting. You have to make the change from the printer icon itself. Depending on you OS there are different ways to get to the printer icon. In win98 just hit start and then setting and printers should be listed. In xp go to control panel (classic view) and just hit the printer and fax icon. Good Luck

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by G Kelly (11/30/03 9:40 AM) reply | + / - | Well here I’m again.
I’ve done all the suggestions that have been given to me and all is O.K., except that I can’t get the A4 default on the computer.
How do I get any out put to automatically default to A4? The printer is set to A4!
Thanks for all the help and I look forward to any ideas.
Graham.

 | Re: HL LJ 4 Plus by dmzcompute (11/30/03 3:45 PM) reply | + / - | I think I may have found your solution. I just did a search of the microsoft knowledge base and the link is below. In short what you have to do is change your region to England and then you have to delete the printer and reinstall it. Changing the region will not change the printer defaults if the printer was alreay installed. Good Luck
