LaserJet 4100 slow down

LaserJet 4100 slow down by Bill (9/11/03 5:07 AM) reply + / -
I have a LaserJet 4100 that on a large print job will gradually start to slow down as the job goes on. The problem gets to a point where there is approximately a 5 second wait between sheets being printed. This problem starts after about 1000-1500 pages have been printed. Any ideas??

Sounds like the fuser is getting too hot after that many pages and needs a pause to cool off a bit. Try breaking up the print jobs into smaller sections and send the jobs about a minute apart, then see if it slows down.

1000 - 1500 pages in ONE PRINT JOB ???

How often do you do that? If it is alot, then you do not have the right machine for your applications.

Sounds like you would need the 8000 series as they can handle a bigger load.

Yes, actually print job runs in the neighborhood of 8000 pages once per quarter. Problem has been fixed by upgrading firmware.

FYI that firmware is a free upgrade from HP, available for all 4100 printers.

firmware DIMM is part # C4168-67907 can't be downloaded like newer models. Probably need to google that part # or call HP to order it. Not a free upgrade anymore just to let you know, being that this thread is 5+ yrs old.
