Epson C42 Plus by Sue (3/24/03 4:58 AM) reply + / -
How do I clean the print heads of my inkjet Epson C42 Plus printer. The 'on screen' instructions are in Spanish which I don't speak!!! No Instruction Book came with it.

SUE: The "C42SX model and C42UX model were made by Epson for "Latin America" and thats why most manuals and papers are in Spanish. Here's some basic information for you, if you have a PC [computer with Windows on it] connected to your printer. I hope it will help...Have your printer plugged-in/powered-on, with paper loaded and no RED "Ink Cartridge Lights" on. If a red light is on you have a problem, or need to replace an indicated ink cartridge.. On your Windows Screen [Monitors Screen], down in the lower right corner [normally] on the "taskbar", is a small "Icon" [picture] of a printer. RIGHT-CLICK on that ICON and when choices come-up, select "Head Cleaning" and follow the directions given. Hopefully those instructions are not in Spanish, as I don't have the ability to know what those instructions are. Head cleaning normally takes about 30 seconds or so. When the operation stops, then click on "Print Nozzle Check Pattern", then click on "Print". A "Nozzle Test Copy" will print out of your printer. If the test copy looks ok [no white lines thru the black or color areas], click "Finish". If not, click "Clean the Print Head Again" and when its completed, run another "Nozzle Test Pattern" to see how it looks. You may have to run several sets of these tests to get the patterns to look ok. If after 5 or 6 sets of tests, you still have a problem, you may need to replace the cartridge, or get the printer serviced. Its possible you may have a CLOGGED PRINTHEAD NOZZLE, a BAD/DEFECTIVE CARTRIDGE, or another HARDWARE [part] problem. If a cartridge ink light comes on during the testing, you will have to replace the indicated cartridge...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Thanks Denny, I will print out your reply and have a go. If no luck, I'll get back to you. I am getting e.g., green turning almost black, and something I did in mauve, had a distinctly blue tinge to the lefthand side.

Sue:
Sorry I did not get back to you.
The Epson ink cartridge can be easily re-programed when empty using a special little device available from:
www.palma-associates.com
Just connect to them and you will get the details.
