BJC8500 waste ink reset

I have a BJC 8500. It gives the error message upon starting of 6 beeps and 5 blinks of the error lite. The manual says that this is the code for waste ink tank full. Does anyone know the procedure for resetting the waste ink tank counter eprom for this Canon printer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
