Canon BJC 3000 Waste Tank Almost Full

Canon BJC 3000 Waste Tank Almost Full by Ed (12/1/02 10:53 PM) reply + / -
I have a Canon BJC 3000, and the power light flashes green and orange alternately, signaling the waste ink tank is almost full. How do I take it apart to clean or replace the waste ink tank? Do I need to reset something in the printer driver to clear the service error code? By the time a reply is received it may not be working at all.

Pull the AC plug before you turn it on. Now depress the buttons on the frt. panel and keep it there, now replace AC plug. It should flash at least or more, when it does release button(s). The BJC300 maybe different from other models but the advice is the same(I think), hopefully you reset the ROM status, thus resets the error. If you truly have to replace the waste pad or tank, I'm sure this a more involved process which gets pretty heady, if you proceed or maybe not. These are older printers, I don't remember all details, just guessing here. -----Willy

See the below link for more information on this. This "WASTE INK TANK" FULL ERROR is an inbuilt timebomb in these printers that is known to Canon and they don't seem to be interested in resolving the problem (they have after all banked your money in the bank!).

There is a waste ink tank - well really it's a felt pad that absords the ink, it's in the base of the printer. Look here http://www.sitemaster-internet.co.uk/bjc6500/ for a set of instructions for taking a similar printer apart. There are photos that show all stages. If you don't do anything your ink tank will get full and the printer will stop

try this for starters.

WARNING FOLLOW THIS VERY CAREFULLY AS IT MAY NOT WORK AGAIN IF YOU DONT.

1) When the power is turned off, while holding down the RESUMEbutton, press and
hold the POWER button. The green indicator will light up.
2) While holding down the POWER button, release the RESUMEbutton. Then double-click
the RESUMEbutton and release the POWER button.
(The indicator blinks in orange/green every time the RESUMEbutton is pressed.)
3) The green indicator blinks while initial operations are in progress. When the
indicator lights (stops blinking), press the RESUMEbutton to select one of the
followings.
(The indicator blinks in orange/green every time the RESUMEbutton is pressed.)

Press Indicator Functions
3 times Lights in Orange Waste ink counter reset

Execute the function you have selected by pressing the POWERbutton. The indicator
will light in green, and the operation will be executed.
(The printer will turn off after the operation has completed.)

I don't have your problem but, My "orange light" flashes 6 times. This would indicate the following:
Six orange flashes: BJ cartridge (printhead) is not installed

Remove and reseat the cartridge (both BJ cartridges for the S450) correctly. Make sure the orange protective cap and tape have been removed. Make sure the blue locking lever is locked down securely.

This is not the case I have had my BJC3000 since 2001, I'm pretty sure that I know how to install the printhead cartridge.

Anyone know what might be wrong here.
I'm getting ready to take my BJC3000 out to the country and use my Remmington model 870 on it.
That should fix the trouble. (laughing)

Ps.: I'll never purchase a Canon product again.

I replaced the Waste Ink Pads and re-set the printer. The printer head does not stop at the rightmost position butgiveajerk sound and stops little bit off the right hand side & orange light starts flashing.

Until I replaced Waste Ink Pads, the printer was working. Any suggestions?

I always wondered what happened to the ink when I ran a cleaning cycle on my BJC-3000. Clearly it does not evaporate into thin air !!

There are some very good instructions on this site, but I have to ask if it is worth going to all the trouble of cleaning/replacing the waste tank when the printer is virtually worthless by the time the tank is full, and the service costs almost the same as a new printer.

Having said that, I still have my father's Murphy 146 radio of 1951 ! AND my Mazda Xedos 9 car is 12 years old and is still going strong at 122,000 miles. I know, it seems stupid to throw away perfectly good equipment for a small part. Essentially this comes down to the price level difference between China and the West, making repairs to such cheap, (but excellent), equipment at European labour rates uneconomic.

Many thanks to all who posted the remedy for this problem. My printer is just over 3 years old and I had no idea what the problem was so started researching when I found this site. I had just bought another Canon (Pixma iP6700D) for photo printing and was going to use my Canon BJC 3000 for daily accounting work. I was really becoming discouraged as I read about this problem and tried the solution several times before it finally worked. I have not attempted to clean the ink tank yet but since the remedy cured the problem and made the printer work, I will tackle that soon. I am not computer savvy but found the information herein very helpful. Again... Many thanks to all who posted help...
Chris

PS...Aside from this issue, I have been pleased with all my Canon products. I own a Canon F1 35mm, a Canon EOS xti, a Canon BJ 240, a Canon BJC 3000 and now a Canon iP6700D. I am and always have been partial to Canon and have found fewer hardcore problems with them than with other products. I also have a Lexmark X1185 PrinTrio (fax, copy, scan)- no problems todate and a Nikon Coolpix 4000 (great carry around camera) but Canon is my first choice as a rule. Face it... all the manufacturers are out to make their big buck but with enough tenacity we can find the answers through the wonderful technologically smart consumers.
