Epson Color Stylus 1520 Black Ink Problems

Epson Color Stylus 1520 Black Ink Problems by JP (11/23/02 4:02 PM) reply + / -
I just got an used Epson 1520 that seems to work fine except for the black ink. The Color is just fine and the black does not work at all. I read in here about other Epsons having similar problems, but I was wondering if anyone has had a problem like this with a 1520 and figured out how to solve it. Also, this printer might have been sitting for a while (weeks or months) without any use before I got it. In case that makes a difference.

I did replace the black cartridge when I got it because I thought that it was out of ink, but it looks like it was full, but according to Epson, they cartridges are no good once you take them out--is that true? I would hate to junk another $30 cartridge because I have to take it out.

any help to my questions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

who ever sold you that printer took advantage of you.. the ink heads are so clogged that it would only take a miracle to fix them. dont buy things from the recycler save some money and buy a new printer.. trust me its less head aches.

Hey JP, what was the windex resolution. I just tried to use my 1520 after months of un-use and the black ink doesn't work. I replaced the black cartridge and then used compressed air in their and then after reading your comment I put some windex in the ink well spout hoping that would clear up the lack of black ink making it to the paper. But, it didn't make a difference... Any recommendations?
Thanks, PJ

PJ

It was actually another post that I found this windex solution on--There was another suggestion I found on the internet somewhere where a solution of vodka, distilled water and (I think) windex was used and was able to fix the worst of situations.

For my problems I was able to get results with the windex the first time around, but I did do it twice and let it stay for 24 hours before using it, and ran several cleaning cycles.

check this out.

Good luck PJ

Hey JP, You are the man (I'm assuming here). Your fix worked like a charm. I let it soak in windex overnight and the 1520 is making some great pix. Thanks so much for your help. If you are ever in the Washington DC area and want a beer, drop me a line. Regards, PJ

Sorry to hear that you can not get your printer to work, tell me the steps again?

You said that you tried the windex, but which version--did you let it sit for 24 hours? How many drops? You said that you ran the cleaning cycle, but how many times? When did you try "spirit" and what is that all about ?

If none of these things work for you, you might have a problem larger than a simple fix and might need to take it into a repair place.

Good luck

TO ALL: As an "Epson Authorized Service Dealer", there's only so much information and help that I can legally give. The best cleaning fluid to use is the RED Epson printhead cleaning solution that comes in the "printhead cleaning kit" sold off the home page on this printer repair site. The kit has the necessary syringe and instructions for proper use. The kit sells for about $10.00...Again, the Epson Red Solution is the best to use by far and the next best fluid to use is HOT WATER. Other chemicals may work, but can damage the printhead assembly. Remember that most inks are water soluable and break down in water, but hot water works better...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Repy to Denny Conway, the "Epson Authorized Service Dealer":
It's only been 5 years since the post that said use the "RED Epson printhead cleaning solution that comes in the "printhead cleaning kit" sold off the home page on this printer repair site". Well I was just wondering if the color of the solution has changed, because I bought it after reading several posts here, and it's a clear solution. Just wanted to be sure I got the right stuff and not some bogus smelly water in a little bottle. Thanks for all the advice.
