Does anyone know the ink tank reset code for the MX700, I'm going crazy trying to figure it out.

Re: Canon pixma MX700 by trigger1937 (4/17/09 10:38 PM) reply + / -
Lomay,... There is no reset code for any printer that uses the Pgi-5 or cli-8 ink carts. These carts have chips on them that keep track of how much ink is used and when it is gone, Canon wants you to buy a new one. If you choose to refill it yourself with your own ink, Canon will warn you, and you must go through 5 step process to basically shut down the Canon ink Monitor for that ink cart. This has to be repeated for each ink cart until you have shut down the monitor for all ink. Then you are on your own to monitor the ink, which is not a problem since you're smart enough to refill it, your smart enough to watch the level. You don't ever want to let the ink run dry, this will burn out your printhead.

Please tell me how to do the 5 step process. I never let the tanks go dry but can't afford to replace them when for pennies I can refill them. Will be waiting for the instructions for the 5 steps. Thanking you in advance.

Re: Canon pixma MX700 by trigger1937 (4/20/09 10:26 AM) reply + / -
Sorry for the confusion. The 5 step process is built into the Canon printers. It is automatic. To start the process you have to wait till the ink monitor says the ink cart is very low and then after more use it will come back with a warning the the ink is empty and it wants you to replace that ink cart. So then you take out that exact ink cart, modify it for refilling and refill it and put it back in the printer.

The printer logic will detect the ink cart and tell you one more time that it is empty and give you the option to continue to print and it will warn you that you will void your warranty if you refill the ink cart and continue to print. This is the start of the 5 step process. To contine you have to acknowledge that you understand but that you want to continue printing with this ink cart. Canon makes you press the "RESET/RESUME" button to acknowledge what you want to do. Then it says the only way for you to continue is to disable the Canon Ink Monitor function, (Since they don't want to be responsible for monitoring your cheap dirty rotten ink). So they take you through several more step of "RESET" (5 step in total) that will stop their ink monitoring of that ink cartridge. So from now on you are responsible to keep an eye on the ink level in that ink cart and never EVER let it go dry.

The bad news is that this entire process is repeated for each and every ink cart in the printer until you have them all disabled from the Canon ink monitor. After that you will never ever get anohter error messasge from Canon about low ink. They will detect if the ink cart or it's chip go bad and tell you about that.

The good thing about all of this is that you are now in control of all the ink and refilling them and this is key in the maintenance of the printer. Because you are now keeping a better watch on what your printing and checking the nozzle print to make sure things still look good, you are taking much better care of your printer.

Now is you want to know much more about REFILL INK CARTS go to the Nifty-Stuff Forum.

I was skeptical at first but it works ! The only thing that still happens is the red light on the the ink well still blinks . No big deal.

1) Disconnect the printer's power outlet

2) Press and hold the power button while connecting the power outlet back.

3) While still holding down the power button, press the reset button twice.(red circle with a triangle)

4) Release the power button
The printer takes about 10 seconds to show the number 1 (factory mode)

5) Open the printer cover cover (not the scanner cover) and just loosen the cartridges. With the printer still open, disconnect the power outlet.

6) Close the lid and turn on the printer.

7) You will no longer get the ink low warning. If you check the ink status
it will show that the cartridge is full !!! THe ink level has been reset successfully.

Toolnut44,... I'm very glad this works for the MX700 and possibly for other NEW versions of Canon printers. However, it does not appear to work for any of the Canon printers that use the CLI-8 and PGI-8 ink carts.

Where did you find this routine. All early Canon printers have a similar sequence to get into Service Mode, but I'm never see anything about a FACTORY mode.

When I did this process on my iP6600D the printer stopped in the SPF Test mode,.. and finally ended up in a "Idle" state.
There may have been some other key sequence to affect the reset, but who know what that would be.

where is the 'ink' button we need to depress to replace a cartridge on the MX700 model

Re: Canon pixma MX700 by trigger1937 (7/23/09 4:33 PM) reply + / -
hahstokes,..I have not seen any of the MX Series printers but I expect they are not much different from any other printer that Canon has produced. If you got it new it came with a Users Manual and I'm sure all the information is in there, with examples, on how to change your ink. If you don't have it, go to this web site and select your printer from the options. Once you have your printer, go to the "Drivers & software" section to download the User's guide.

hahstokes,... I just check the MX700, since I was courious, and it uses the same CLI-8, PDBK-5 ink carts as all the other Canon printers. There is no "INK" button. Just lift the lid and the printhead and carriage will come to the center. Then all you have to do is remove each ink cart you want to and replace it. Then close the lid and you are ready to print.

Unfortunately, Toolnut44's steps didn't work for me on my MX700 printer. Granted, the cartridge said it was totally out and I hadn't refilled it. I was just trying to squeeze a few more pages out of a cartridge to finish a big job where I can't run up to the store to get the correct cartridge (after the Staples salesman sold my wife the wrong black cartridge!).

Aaagh!

Re: Canon pixma MX700 by trigger1937 (9/22/09 2:33 PM) reply + / -
S2s,... Toolnut44 instruction didn't work because he got them wrong. I believe what he is trying to do is instruct you on how to get the unit into Factory Service Mode. The correct steps are;

1. With the power OFF, Hold down the Resume and then press AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON BUT DO NOT RELEASE IT.
2. Then release the RESUME button and continue to hold down the Power button.
3. Now press the RESUME button 2 times and then release the power button.

This should put you into Service MOde. I assume you would follow the reset of his instructions,... however I don't have a MX700 and have never tried this on any other Canon Printers.

I long a go gave up on this and just purchased a chip resetter.

Re: Canon pixma MX700 by Anonymous (11/3/09 9:23 AM) reply + / -
No need for any 5 step process. After you have refilled the cartridges carry on printing by pressing the resume button when it lets you know that the ink is running low, until it gets to the point where it says the ink levels in a certain cartridge can no longer be detected correctly, at this point press and hold in the reset button (red circle and triangle). This will override the ink level detection for that cartridge.
