 | hp officejet d135: how to remove scanner glass? by raybee (3/22/09 12:54 PM) reply | + / - | just joined this forum & have same problem so many others reported on hp d135 "scanner failure". tried all fixes recommended & still get the message.
I want to ask bert or anyone else how to remove the scanner glass on the d135? i saw instructions from bert on this, & I've removed the 4 T10 Torx head screws around the perimeter of the glass but cant figure out next step to remove the glass as nothing seems to want to move.
the control panel overlay (with the on off button, etc) does not want to pry off.
also can't seem to get the 2 latches at the base of each leg to be pried outward w/ screwdriver to disconnect them.---why would these need to be disconnected to remove & clean the scanner glass & bulb?
i have a photo i could attach if you can tell me how to attach it.
thanks!

i cleaned the 5 mirrors & scanner glass as most were filmy. the white balance strip in scanner area looks fine & doesn't look yellowish. i turned on the printer & tried to copy. the thing slid underneath, it said it was warming up but then i got the scanner failure message & no copy. i tried 2 more times turning on printer & both scanner bulbs looked equally bright & both went off at the same time when the scanner failure message flashed. i took off the scanner access panel & turned on the printer a couple more times w/ the overhead lights off, & both scanner bulbs looked equally bright & both went off at the same time when the scanner failure message flashed. i also tried to get rid of scanner failure message by turning on printer w/ & without the 3 v. battery but still got the same message.
trying to narrow down the problem: is it a problem with the scanner bulb(s), the thermal confirming sensor, the main logic & fax boards, or? thanks!

 | Re: hp officejet d135: how to remove scanner glass? by raybee (3/27/09 8:10 PM) reply | + / - | also read on your forums about needing to calibrate white strip & have included below. not sure i follow. anybody try this?
If you have a G85 that keeps complaining about "scanner failure" after a prolonged "heating up" phase, make sure the scanner bar has a good view on the plastic strip on the extreme right of your scanner glass. It is probably required to determine zero position and make a white-spot and black-spot calibration. Make sure the strip is straight.
To test if the strip is your problem, turn off the device, manually move the scanner bar to a middle position (you must take the tension from the driving belt for this) and place a good black/white contrast a bit right to the scanner bar. Power the unit on. If the scanner tries to get a good view of the (replacement) strip, you have found your problem. If not, make sure your dummy strip is absolutely straight and try again a few times.
