HP Deskjet carriage/plastic strip

My HP deskjet 1220c (A3)had a paper jam and an error that the carriage wouldn't move. When I cleared the paper (a real mess!) there was a 6mm wide plastic strip with a slot at either end which had come loose from somewhere -it is intact. Can I re-fix it, and where? Thanks in advance if you can help.

What you are refering to is the encoder strip for the printer. This is the strip that relays the information to the carriage. There will be a post on either end of the inside of the printer that the strip attaches too. Usually there is a little spring that goes on one side. The strip will then have to go under a lip on the carriage and you should be back in business!
