I have had a HP Officejet G85 for sometime. It has also been leaking ink for the bottom for a long time and I finally decided to see what was going on. With some help from info on this forum (Bert) I opened it up to take a look. Turns out that the service station was a mess. After a lot of cleaning up I discovered that the large cluster gear on the service station motor was missing. It wasn't inside the case anywhere, so I think it may not have been installed at the factory in the first place. Everything else was where it was suppose to be. The piviot pin for the cluster gear looked like nothing had ever been on it.

My first question is this: Where is the movable tray inside the service station suppose to be in the parked position? I'm thinking that if I cannot find or make a replacement gear, I'll just leave it parked. Any ideas?

The pallet/sled/wiper assembly parks to the rear during printing. I suggest that you install the gear, HP P/N C5870-40017. Without the gear the wiper will not clean the cartridge print nozzles, the carriage will not lock in the service station when the printer idle, and the nozzles will not be capped when not in use. You can get the gear online for $10.

Go to this web page for reference.

Bert,
Thanks for the quick response, and also for all your past advice to the forum that enabled me to disassemble and clean the printer. I have just begun to look for a replacement gear, and to date without much success. HP no longer shows that gear as being available, and a Google search so far has not been successful. Gouss I'll try to look again today. Thanks again for your help.
