 | HP photosmart 3310 by janem (12/2/07 3:12 PM) reply | + / - | My HP photosmart 3310 has been fairly maintenance-free until the warranty expired two weeks ago. Now it is giving me a message that I need to replace the light cyan Vivera ink cartridge. When I do so with a brand-new cartridge, the message keeps coming back. I tried doing what was suggested in the manual, which was to wipe off the copper contacts in the machine with a soft cloth and distilled water. This made no difference. What should I do next? Thanks!

The message on the screen will also have a shape in it corresponding to the cartridge. Check the message and check the shapes on the cartridge to verify

 | Re: HP photosmart 3310 by JJHudson (4/17/08 10:54 AM) reply | + / - | I have an HP 3310 Photosmart printer that someone turned it off by useing the surge protector switch instead of the on/off button. Now it has the constant error message to turn printer off useing the power button not unplugging it or useing any other way to turn it off. Does anyone know if there is a quick fix to get rid off this error message? Thanks JJHudson

 | Re: Re: HP photosmart 3310 by Paul M. (4/27/08 5:17 PM) reply | + / - | I've had this recently and If you just press OK when the message is on the screen it clears. My problem is that my printer freezes when you turn it off so it never actually shuts down - the only way is by pulling the plug... any Ideas?

 | Re: HP photosmart 3310 by A Ferguson (5/2/08 1:10 PM) reply | + / - | I am unable to use the printer for anything since an ink system failure error appeared. I went to the HP site and went through the steps and it did not work. I called tech support and the operator indicated it maybe a software problem. Ofcourse I am out of warranty even though this is a replacement 7 months ago for the first 3310 I purchased when it went bad. Any ideas?

 | Re: Re: HP photosmart 3310 by ro1999 (5/26/08 5:00 PM) reply | + / - | After experiencing the "ink system failure" issue and being told by no fewer than 3 HP reps that my best alternative was to purchase a discounted replacement from HP (at a price higher than the going rate online) I found the "OK," "Cancel," "Black," and "Color" solution on this site (i.e., push all four of these buttons while turning off the printer). I restarted my printer, and now it works. Hope it works for you.
I am absolutely outraged and am seriously considering a class action lawsuit. I am looking for people who trashed their Photosmart after getting an ink system failure message and after being told by HP that it was a hardware failure. If you fit this description and you're interested, send a message to HPinksystemfailure@gmail.com.

If you had any answers for this inquiry, I'd appreciate it if you could forward something useful - I can't seem to get your thread to open. Probably my damage.
Thanks, and good luck.

Access is pretty good from the front and above it if you remove the side panel, and better if you loosen the circuit board itself.

 | Re: Re: Re: HP photosmart 3310 by Anonymous (3/25/09 8:08 AM) reply | + / - | My D3210 all in one had the "Ink System Error" and I have been using it for months solely as a scanner after HP told me that it that was a hardware fault and it needed to be sent for an expensive service. Thus I had then bought a D7360(same print cartidges to use up the spares I already had)as it was cheaper to do so. In desperation, after my HP D7360 got "Ink System Error" too, I Googled the problem and found this site. Here I found the "OK" "Cancel," "Black," and "Color" button solution to fix the 3210. I haven't fixed my D7360 yet, but thanks to the 30 second four button reset the 3210 is working fine. Those bastards at HP must be banking executives in their spare time! They are deliberately misleading the consumer by not telling us about these resets. Thanks to you all for your informative posts.

 | Re: HP photosmart 3310 by ppluto (11/19/09 1:25 PM) reply | + / - | The HP PhotoSmart 3310 has an auto-shut down feature in the menu. I have this option disabled (not to shut down), yet it shuts down approximately 5 minutes or so after each print job.
Any suggestions as to what might be happening?

I encourage anyone who did experience the problem that you did to jouin you, unfortunately I can't because of your excellent, simple advice.

 | Re: HP photosmart 3310 by harrio (2/26/10 5:59 AM) reply | + / - | My printer came up with a message saying INK SYSTEM FAILUER BANNOT PRINT, SEND FAXES OR COPY and gives this code - 0xc18a0106, when I went to the hp site I was told to disconnect the power cord and remove the inks for 30 seconds then reconnect the power cord and reinstall the inks per instruction and this should solve the problem, and if not , the printer requires servicing, well I'm still receiving this message and code, is this worth having serviced or will I make out better just purchasing another printer.

 | Re: HP photosmart 3310 by Dee2 (3/6/10 10:44 AM) reply | + / - | My HP 3310 has been an awesome printer - no printing problems since purchase 4 yrs ago. 3 months ago - I decided to stop buying preprinted 'checks' for all our companies - & start printing our own checks. I purchased the VersaCheck software. It said banks need to have the checks printed in a special magnetic ink. VersaCheck.com has their VersaInk. A lot of printer models have the VersaInk cartridges for their model but not the 3310. However - VersaInk has a REFILL ink system with the tools to refill an actual HP cartridge for this printer model. Instructions on their website walks you thru filling one of your own cartridges with the VersaInk. Following their line by line instructions, I did this. Since that moment - my 3310 does not recognize the black ink cartridge. All 5 other cartridges work fine - but anything black - I get blank paper.(It shows on screen I have a full black cartridge - but it doesn't use it.)I immediately took out the refilled cartridge, & put in a brand new black HP cartridge. I have NEVER used any cartridges for my printer other than the HP cartridges made for this printer, & never used any refilled cartridges. Always by new & correct ones. This is the FIRST time I have ever veered from that system. I used an actual HP cartridge I had just used up & refilled it. However - my 3310 instantly became a big paperweight since I can no longer print in BLACK. HP 'support' had me clean the contacts (as if I am an idiot!! Already tried - didn't help) - then told me to try resetting the printer back to the orig. company defaults - maybe would help & if not - probably couldn't be fixed. Tried 2 separate calls to them. Do these people have any training?? Or are they just someone off the street that wants a job for a few minutes?? Resetting to orig defaults did nothing, other than have me have to re-setup my printer as if just purchased new. Does anyone out there have any solution for my problem. I really have loved this machine - & would like it to work again so I don't have to buy another printer & throw away the 10 or so new cartridges I have in stock, and have to try to figure out a new printer!

 | Re: HP photosmart 3310 by jjhudson (3/8/10 11:10 PM) reply | + / - | You could have a couple of different problems. one could be that the ink you refilled into your cartridge has clogged the tubing inside that the ink flows through to the printhead or the print head has gotten clogged from the ink. either one is not easy to clean. It requires the printer to be taken completely apart to get to the tubes and the printhead..If the printer is registering that you have a full cartridge you may or may not. they register by the gold colored chip on the outside of the cartridge. that chip may be blown. I'm not sure, did you try a new HP cartridge and it still won't print any black? Here are a couple of things to try. **1st-Unplug the power cord from the printer, but leave the power cord plugged in to your outlet. **2nd-Press and hold ok and cancel buttons while plugging in the power cord to printer while the printer is powering up keep holding ok and cancel buttons down until printer shuts itelf off. Turn printer back on and you'll have to set language, country etc. If that dosn't help try doing a full navram reset. Without turning off the printer, unplug the power cord. Once the printer is off, press and hold the # and 9 keys down together while plugging the power cord back into the printer keep holding the buttons down for about 10 seconds, the printer will turn off. Turn it back on useing the power button, it should print an alignment sheet. hope I was able to help. I've been repairing inkjets for almost 6 years. Around here they call me "The Inkjet Queen"

 | Re: HP photosmart 3310 by LKW (3/14/10 2:38 PM) reply | + / - | I can print in black, but there is always some text missing (letters left off). I have tried the suggestion of unplugging in back and holding down "#" & "6"- it did nothing. Replacing the black cartridge does nothing either.
Any suggestions appreciated.
