Recurring paper jam (HP PSC 2355 all-in-one)

Recurring paper jam (HP PSC 2355 all-in-one) by tola (10/20/07 9:11 AM) reply + / -
Hi,

Our PSC 2355 has suddenly started displaying "Paper jam" messages every time we try to print.

It feeds paper from the paper tray OK but feeds the paper too far past the print heads and then stops before displaying the error.

It seems as though the printer can not detect that the paper has arrived under the print heads and assumes there is a jam when there isn't.

What sensors the printer use to determine the position of the paper and is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Interestingly, someone posted the same problem on another web site http://www.fixya.com/support/t204537-hp_psc_2355_paper_jam . I've checked the door at the back and it appears to be in the correct position.

Many Thanks

Ben

The paper sensor is the combination of a lever and optical interrupter module. The rear cleanout door must be removed to see it. Viewed from the rear it is on the left recessed between the two small rubber rollers that are toward the top. The lever should move up and down freely.

If you need a photo email me by clicking on the crossed tools to the right of my name. Ask for the optical sensor 1 photo.

Hi Bert,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

I have found the lever and optical sensor combination. The lever can move up and down freely and if I manipulate it manually the printer seems to be able to tell the difference between up and down (i.e. if I try to print with an empty paper tray and hold the lever up at the right time it says "paper jam" as before and if I leave the lever down it says "out of paper"). This suggests the sensor is working correctly.

If I remove the back panel and observe the lever when the printer is in a "paper jam" state the lever appears to be up, as it should be.

Assuming the paper sensor is working correctly, is there anything else that could cause the symptoms I describe in my first message? What could be causing the paper to be fed too far and throw a "paper jam" message?

Many Thanks

Ben

There is also the lever next to nozzle cleaning mechanism (on the right) - when it is broken, the printer pulls in the paper correctly, but signals "Paper Jam" and refuses to print.

That's it! The lever konmaj mentions looks like it's been snapped off. Does anyone have a photo of what it should look like?

Does anyone know what this part is called and whether I can buy a spare?

Thanks very much

I've actually now found the part that snapped off inside the printer so I know what it's supposed to look like.

There's a possibility I might be able to super glue it back on, though it's going to be very fiddly.

If I can't fix it, what are the chances of finding a spare?

Thanks

Well, I've super glued the lever back on and for now the printer is working again! Hopefully it will hold.

Thank you so much for your answers, you saved me the cost of a new printer.

Best Wishes

Hi
I think that is my problem what you are mentioning, if i understand correctly, you mean the roller to the left. is that supposed to move up and down. that seems to me as the logical idea of it because what the printer is doing is whilst prepairing its taking the paper and it tells me there is a paperjam. that roller is just still on the floor of the paper feed tray. any advise would be grateful!
cheers

Paper out message (HP PSC 2355 all-in-one) by alkalinea (6/9/08 8:50 AM) reply + / -
Hello,
I think I have a problem with the PSC 2355 related to the upon described paper jam faults. I've recently got one for nothing that will not start any print job. After powering up it starts a cleaning session, the scanner moves and seems to reset, everything appears to be OK.
When starting a copy or printjob, after a while and a second cleaning period a message comes, saying: paper empty, load paper and continue with OK.
There is plenty of paper in the tray and I've checked the paper sensor behind the back door.
Will the printer usually pull in the first page until it passes the mentioned sensor and then knows there is paper in?
I've seen no other lever for the paper in the tray, like on other printers.
This one doesn't move anything, so no paper will arrive at the lever behind the back cleaning door. When I push in manually, the sensor works 'cause it shows paperjam then.
The feeder motor is working well, Ive tested it with 12 V DC. I feel it working now, when it is on its place, but no rollers are turning.
Is the feed motor that one for the cleaning as well?
Is it possible there are any coupling gears or clutch to the feeder rollers are broken? I see some white wheels turning (during the cleaning session???, or is it a try to feed), they turn in both directions, but after it-nothing.
Any help is welcome. I'm able to strip it to the chassis and rebuild, so no fear for complicated ways.
Thanks in advance
alkalinea

I had the same problem with this printer. The lever near the
printerheadcleaning section was broken. After glueing it back on, the printer worked again.

Thanks for your info.
