G85 Won't Power Up

G85 Won't Power Up by SubDoc (6/11/07 8:33 AM) reply + / -
Went to fax something this morning and my G85 was in Power Save Mode - not unusual. Pressed power and nothing happened. Pressed other buttons - opened scanner - opened ink cartridged door. Still nothing. Unplugged power and let sit for a few minutes. (HP web page says that sometimes when plugged into power strip - will go into sleep mode and not wake up. Unplug and replug - No go.)

Then found this site and saw Bert's posts and others. Power supply connecter LED is lit and test on multi-meter at 18v. Bert - I followed your directions for disassembly (great instructions) inspected and tested mother board power connection - looks fine - tested continuity from pin to solder - appears fine.

Question - any thing else to test - or is it time for a new printer? Mother board only causitive issue?

Respects to all

I'd expect it to be the motherboard.

Hi All

Following Berts directions for disassembly - I pulled it apart and found a relatively healthy 10 year old G85 with little wear. (Probably 5 reems per year - in home use)

However, the mother board could not be resusitated. (Operation successful - but the patient died)

I replaced it yesterday afternoon with a new HP L7680. Had it up and running in a few minutes - install was smooth and plugged directly into my wired LAN.

If anyone is looking for an organ doner - I have some fairly good body parts - pay shipping & packaging - make me a modest offer. This son-of-a-gun is easy to take apart. Ashame to take it to the dump

Respects to all
