 | Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by efinigan (5/19/07 6:46 AM) reply | + / - | My i550 has a problem that may involve the waste Tank??
No colors at all, even with full color cartridges. (lack printing couldn't be better.)
Neither the Print Head Alignment nor the Nozzle Check show any patterns under B, C or E.
And I do not get any flashing errors when printing documents (everything comes out Black).
What should I do first? Wonder if I should resort to to the Windex treatment of the caps?
I would try to remove the case to inspect the ink waste if I could only locate the "three screws"??
From the Service mode, I've been able to print the Service Test Print and the EEPROM Information Print, but I have no idea of what the numbers and paterns mean?? Should I invest in an i550 Service Manual? From where?

 | Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by Tman (5/23/07 8:31 PM) reply | + / - | Hi,
Remove the tanks from the printer head - put masking tape over the cartridge openings so they will not dry out (preferably green painters tape)and set them aside.
Find a GLASS tray with a flat bottom and add a mixture of plain water and about 20% isopropynol (not rubbing alcohol) or you can also use methyl hydrate and fill the dish up so just the actual head is submersed in the solution .. try and avoid getting the PC board wet. Soak over night the place on a dry paper towel(s) to drain and dry out. If the nozzels are just dirty this should fix you up. If not you may have a head with burned out nozzels.
This has worked for me in the past .. good luck

 | Re: Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by efinigan (5/24/07 2:53 AM) reply | + / - | Yikes! A new purge unit cost $29.32. Yikes, again.
"Canon Purge Units:Description, Purger unit for Canon i550; i850; MP700; MP730, CAUTION: Should be done by Canon Authorized tech MFG Number, QG4-0279-000, New Price $29.32"
I don't see any obstruction that would affect only the color but not the black. I wonder if there is another solution without taking the printer to a Canon Authorized Tech?

 | Re: Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by efinigan (5/24/07 3:01 AM) reply | + / - | Hi Tman: I've soaked the heads before in water, but I'll try your suggestion with alcohol. (I wonder if I used too much water before?) After the heads dry, is it absolutely necessary to use compressed air too? I havven't done that. I find that compressed air is too expensive since CompUSA closed it's doors.

 | Re: Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by TimBob55 (10/25/07 5:13 PM) reply | + / - | Thanks a lot guys, Anonymous, HPWizard, Tman. The power button hold with two resets did the trick on my i320.
Consumers Union recommended this piece of junk years ago based on operating cost, not reliability. I had to take it apart after 6 mos when the feeder plastic warped (spring loaded plastic & high temp don't mix).
I spent a few hours on the phone yesterday with Canon tech support (don't waste your time) & two local repair reps they referred me to (fix a disposable printer!?!). Nobody would tell me about the reset, even with a direct question. They want to sell new printers. One Canon guy let slip that here are "forums on the web" that discuss printer repairs / resets. He also mentioned that the waste tank has no sensors (I had cleaned it with a paper towel). This is unbelievable, but the drops of ink are COUNTED. The printer shuts down when the count is reached. Why don't they strap a time bomb to it?!? This is the most egregious example of planned obsolesence I have come across. I will complain to Consumers Union.
To cap it off, I have an i455 which I bought new two years ago as a backup for the i320 (same ink tanks). It was in the original sealed box til yesterday. I took it out & plugged it in and it is deader than a rock. The Canon guys were speechless. I doubt they would say even if they had the solution. The green light slowly flashes. According to the manual it is warming up. Right. No motion from any of the motors. The power supply is good. The Canon guys all mentioned they wouldn't charge me for the service call & even gave me a 10% discount on another printer!
I crushed my SureShot under a rock and will stay away from Lake Success and Canon products in the future.

 | Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by Greenbox91 (1/21/08 4:53 PM) reply | + / - | Hi Tman!
Glad you're still around. Quite awhile ago I used the rest codes you posted on 11/25/05 to get my Canon S630 past a 1-green/7-orange problem. It took me quite a lot of tries and I'm not sure what finally did it but it worked.
Now I have another problem. I don't do a lot of printing and I print mostly with black. Also, I travel a lot and my ink tends to dry out on the nozzles. I usually just soak the cartridge (printheads only) in warm distilled water for about an hour, air-dry for about half an hour and all works well... or it has in the past.
I just returned from a month away (temperatures in the house may have been as low as 60 degrees while I was gone) and my printer would print colors OK but black only faintly. I tried the printer's own cleaning routine for black only and that helped but an hour later black gave up entirely.
I soaked the cartridge as I usually do and it looked all clean and nice... although it didn't look particularly dirty to begin with.
HOWEVER, when I put the cartridge back in I started getting the 1-green/7-orange blinks. I tried your reset as I'd done in the past but couldn't get past step 4. When I released both buttons as in step 4 I got the 1-green/7-orange instead of the blinking-green-to-steady-green that I was expecting. I tried this many, many times with the same result. HOWEVER, if I took the cartridge out (ink ranks and all) I could then do the reset successfully. BUT, when I put the cartridge back the 1-green/7-orange started up again.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the very interesting link. I'll put it in my tips file for future reference.
Actually, I solved the problem with some advice from my ink vendor. He's not a repair person but he does hear a lots of tips. He suggested gently wiping the copper contacts on the back of the cartridge with rubbing alcohol. That did it. I suppose copper does corrode but it isn't always visible.

Tman, you're an absolute genius. I worked all day yesterday, trying to get my Canons330 Printer, to work. All it did was to keep flashing orange 7 times. I was ready to throw it into a trash can. I found this site, about an hour ago, followed your instructions, and, much to my glee, it worked. Thank you, so much!!!! Have a nice day.

It worked fine for my I850. Yes it is a messy job removing and cleaning the pads. I also lost the two little pads at the top the aborber mechanicism. But the printer seems to work fine.

 | Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by edenburn (9/14/09 10:56 PM) reply | + / - | I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and it still comes up as "unknown device" in device manager. In the manual it said that if you run out of ink you can damage the printer. I did run out if ink. Does this mean that it has to go to a service center? Thanks again for your help. Mike

 | Re: Canon Waste Tank Reset Codes by danymoon (9/15/09 4:25 PM) reply | + / - | Hi... I am not quite sure if the answer to my question has not already been posted, that's why I just try again. I have 2 canon i250 at home. The first stopped print black 4 months ago, the second last week... always when I really need them! It is stranged, the printer only does as if he was printing, but the sheet is coming out white as snow. Dark grey and any other colours are no problem, only black. I tried few times the reset thing and I tried as good as possible to clean the pads. And the black cartridge is not empty or dried. I used it 3 minutes before it stopped to work... The printer doesn't even give me a signal that black doesn't work. What should I do? Is it the "waste tank" problem? or something else??
Thanks for your help...
