 | Brother Error #41 Information by MaraMack Bus. Equip. (3/26/07 8:57 AM) reply | + / - | Error #41 causes a lot of headaches but is really a simple problem to AVOID and correct. FIRST & formost......KEEP THE GUIDE RAIL CLEAN!! The guide rail is the shiny metal rod that the print head rides along as it is printing. Ink jet printers create a fine mist of ink the "gums" up this rail. The print head is then not able to move fast enough to "park" itself correctly and you'll get ERROR #41. You will also get TONS of "phantom paper jams". (This is true will nearly ALL HP printers as well.) DO NOT use oil on this rail, thinking that it will help.....It will only make things worse. Use a CLEAN cloth and HIGH QUALITY alcohol (91% at least) to regularly keep this rail clean. IF you get the ERROR #41 you can often clear it (I do every time ) by unplugging the machine for at least 15 seconds then plug it back in. As you hear the print head moving inside UNPLUG the machine so that the print head will not be "parked". Then clean the rail on the far right side as well. Plug the machine back in.....Allow the machine to go through its complete warm-up. You should be all set....unless the print head REALLY is damaged, which is rare. If the error returns during this process.....Put something in the doc feeder and press "copy or Black Copy" while the warm up is going on. This will sometimes induce the machine to go into the "self cleaning" mode, after which, it should come ready. Hope this helps.

 | Re: Brother Error #41 Information by FASTFIX (3/26/07 7:57 PM) reply | + / - | A 41 error is a print head error most of the time caused by non brother brand inks being used. A 31 or 32 error is a problem with the movment of the printhead.
Brother had extended the warrantee for 41 errors from 12 months to 30 months, on some of there machines.
When a new head is installed new brother brand ink must me used or the 41 error can and will be back! The new heads also have a serial number the must be programed into the machine. This will also reset so the machine will know things like how many times the inks have been changed with the new head etc.

 | Re: Brother Error #41 Information by Marinate (3/28/07 2:27 AM) reply | + / - | Is error 46 the same as error 41? I have the error 46, and I need to know how to reset my printer. Right now, I can't even use the scanner as all the functions are disabled. Please help, and Thanks!
