HP600 Office Jet paper jam

HP600 Office Jet paper jam by Susan D (4/12/02 9:54 AM) reply + / -
I started getting the paper jam message and
couldn't find anything to clear. Went all
through the HP cleaning and reformatting steps
called their tech support but got only the same
info as available on line. After reformatting I
now have no message displaying on printer.
Printer seems to be making some unusual noise.

Is there anything else I can do?

If HP is not supporting these with parts is it
worth taking this in for repair?

Are the T45X ($179) or K60 ($206) replacements
they suggested a good choice or should I search
consumer ratings?

That particular problem is prevalent on that model. I'm not surprised that HP is claiming ignorance when they should be recalling them. To repair it, you have to change the flex cable and pen control board. It's over $100 for the parts if you can find them. As for the replacements they advocated, they're probably good for 13 months as well. All those multi-function machines pretty much suck, no matter what the brand. They're all considered "disposable".

I've got an Officejet 710 and 13 months after buying it, the printer stopped working (giving the error message: "insert black cartridge"). After trying two other new cartridges in vain, I remembered that the printer had been making a different noise when printing. After closer inspection I noticed that the flex cable was being folded as the carriage went up and down. And this must have broken the (micro) wires. I tried to order it from Parts First for £27 but after two months of waiting and chasing them they say they haven't got it.
Has anyone got any ways of reviving the damn thing...or at least the scanner and fax
(other than putting it in the circular file)
