HP 7210 "remove and check colour cartridge" by coombsie (edited 2/4/06 1:09 PM) reply + / -
I have purchased an HP7210 but get the error mesage "remove and check colour cartridge". I have cleaned the cartridge and the printer contacts, have done a 'Semi Full Reset' but get the same error. I have even bought a new cartridge No.344 but still the same problem. Been in contact with HP support but no luck in solving the problem. Anyone out there have any suggestions or a solution to the problem. Many thanks.

HP's are pretty good about low ink. Is the cartridge generic? Or refilled? If refilled you ain't gonna get it to reset, period.
If it's generic, it could be defective. I've even seen it on HP cartridges.
I am presuming that the cartridge aontacts and the carriage contacts have been properly cleaned.

HP has had lots of problems with their cartridges. I wouldn't trust one even if it was new. I saw that problem once on a different model. We happened to have 2 of the same model in the shop for different problems. I swapped the cartridges between the 2 printers and both of them worked fine! Didn't clean any contacts or anything before I swapped them. I swapped them back and the one that originally didn't see it still didn't see it. Repeated the test twice with the same results. Subsequently cleaning the contacts didn't help. How do you explain that?
I'd suggest that you buy a cartridge from a different store. They make the cartridges in several different countries. They once had a problem with yellow that stemmed from one of the countries. Use a cartridge from another country and it wouldn't have the yellow problem. Look at the box and it should tell you the country of mfg. Find one from a different country.

Thanks Frank.

Both cartridges are original HP and one came with the printer the other was purchased some 100 kms away so I think there is no danger that they come from the same batch they also have different manufacturing dates and what looks like totally different serial numbers which I assume relates to place of manufacture. looks like Canon here we come!
