Three years ago my company bought an HP designjet 450c plotter. It works well but it's a little slow. So I wanted to expand its memory. After checking the slot I notice that its memory has already been expanded to the maximum 32 Mo. There seems to be an extra slot for additionnal memory but the User Manual states that this slot is not for memory. What are my options other than buying another machine for printing my maps?

The only other option is to decrease the quality by choosing normal or draft and not using best which is very slow. There may also and I am not sure be a dpi setting which you may be able to change in the driver.

The back slot is for a ROM chip such as when the 430 is upgraded to and 450C by the user or for installing a later version of firmware. The slot is not for RAM. The max is 36 meg (4 on the board and an additional 32 meg simm). The slot closest to the back can take a 4,8,16 or 32 meg simm. No other memory choices. That is the limitation of this plotter.
