No responses to earlier post so have posted again. My R1800 with CIS has gone into a error state. When printer is turned on Paper and ink lights on front alternately blink and the Bottom light On/Ready light goes OFF. I can not move the head manually and so can not open the cartridge lid. Anybody know what error state it is in? Tried SSC software to reset waste ink reservoir but no response. Any way of moving head to the left without disassembly? Anybody out there able to help?? Tony this sounds like the dreaded waste ink error. I don't know how to clear it perhaps someone else.
But usually you can move the carrier. If you turn on the printer. When the head moves from the right side just unplug the printer. The head will be free so you can move it. Don't turn it off or it will go back to the right and lock. Unplug it.
The SCC program should help you to do the waste ink reset. But you may have to replace a couple cartridges first.
Thanks for the reply. The Ink Head unfortunately does not move when switching on and SSCLG reset program doesn't work either. I am going to try the Maintenance program that comes with 2manuals.com as a last resort. I have been told that the blinking lights are the error code for a maintenance check (ie Ink waste pad change)
Bought the service program from 2manuals.com and it worked a treat. Reset counter to zero but I now have to find out how to replace/clear the waste ink pads or bottle. No service manual for the R1800 to my knowledge yet available.
Can anyone help??? I have just replaced my cartridges in an Epson R1800 with Jettec compatibles (the correct ones as listed by Jettec) and now have an unuseable printer. ALL LIGHTS ARE ON and nothing will work, I cannot see that this is a waste pad problem, the machine is only abt 3 mnths old and has had other cartridges replaced with Jettec one by one. Now that ALL the Cartridges are Jettec I am getting this problem. Tried using the Ssc service download but this does not appear to work, even thought the blurb says that the R1800 is one of the machines that the prog will recognise. Would be grateful for any help .
Lights on usually mean empty cartridges, buy a chip resetter and reset to full. I have had the occasional chip that seems to fail and not be able to be reset, you can cut it off with "Stanley" knife and replace with an original one cut from an OEM cartridge. Have also had a couple of sensing pins on the printer side stick so as to not make contact. Freed them up with a small pair of tweezers. Hope this helps.
I spent a lot of hours and a few days trying to solve this. The only thing that finally worked for me was the Adjustment Program from 2manuals.com.
I purchased it (less than $10.00), downloaded it to my PC (no Mac available), unzipped the program, tried it a couple times with no success –
it gave me a communication error –
so I changed my printer cable to UBS cable and changed the port –
Once past the communication error I selected the “Particular Adjustment Mode”, then “Auto Selection” in the Setting Port Selection window, double clicked on “Waste Ink Pad Counter”, clicked on “Get Status”.
It will tell you the value reading on your printer. Click on “Initialization” and – WAM BAM – you’re done.
Really – I spent about 8 hours over the last 3 days trying to get this done.
Don’t be put off by the awkward payment process at 2manuals… I had googled them and read a bad review – but, desperate as I was, I tried it anyway and I had NO problems.
A cheaper and easier solution is the IPR which Epson released to the USA/Canada.
This is a whole lot simpler than the Adjustment utility and it doesn't cost anything. That said 2Manuals is invaluable for other printers that the IPR doesn't support (would be nice if they'd answer their email though!).
