shows how to align/calibrate everything (gears etc)
on an HP 5110 XI.

I tokk it apart and managed to fix a problem
where the catridge was jammed.

the cartridge moves now, but it wont print.

There is no alignment.

Fixing it was your mistake as HP provides free replacements for these machines when they have the carriage jam problem.

What you have probably done is get the service station sled in a position where it doesn't cause a carriage jam, but as a result the cartridges are not capped when the machine is shut off and they dry out, then since the service station gear is broken the wipers never get moved back and forth to clean the nozzles.

I suggest you search the forums for Twang, read his transcript of a chat with HP, break your machine again, and let HP send you a free replacement.

Flanges break on the gears that drive the service station, HP sends a free 5510 to replace 5110's that have this problem.

When the 5110's get back to HP they will surely be scrapped as HP no longer makes machines using the parts in them.

So when you see that you must have broken gears, and use Twangs chat as a guideline in deakling with HP, then HP will send you a free replacement.

Was the cartridge jammed on the right side, that's a sure sign of bad gears.

Are the first 2 digits of the serial number "CN", that's another indication.

Now if you'd rather just scrap the machine instead of getting a free replacement I'm sure HP won't mind. (did I mention the replacement comes with unopened ink cartridges)

I have an hp 5110 xi all-in-one, It is doing what you mentioned..jamming to the right and makeing clicking sounds like a chipped gear. It then says "unjam carriage" I do so,it cycles and jams again. Also quite a bit of gummy black ink in inking mechanism on the right.Used to be a tech so I know not to tear into it unless last resort and have service lit. How can I get a replacement from HP.How much will that cost? It is no longer under warranty. Will check Twangs in forums, but please respond. Thanks.

I've been reading that the free replacement program ended.

The gears have never been available from HP.

"Pen Alignment Failed due to an incorrect page being in the Scanner. To retry the pen alignment, click on the "Align" button." This is the message I get all the time. I printed the alignment page, it appeared to scan, and this window keeps popping up. I have repeated the procedure several times, and I have rebooted by computer. Help! The window gets in the way!

I have the same problem with my 5510. I have tried numerous times to do the alignment as requested and I too, "get the Pen Alignment Failed due to an incorrect page being in the Scanner" error even though the correct page is on the scanner with proper placement.

If you figure out how to fix this problem, let me know.

All colors must be printing or the alignment pattern will not print correctly. Also make sure that the alignment page is put into the scanner correctly after it prints. Go to the web page below to see what the alignment page should look like.

If you are not sure about the cartridges do the following: Verify that ink can flow from the cartridge(s) by blotting the print nozzles on a damp paper towel a few times for two seconds. You should see all of the colors (three-color cartridge: yellow, magenta, and cyan) that are supposed to be in it flowing freely. If you do not, in spite of ink being in the cartridge it is defective.
