Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Xiomara (7/24/05 8:32 AM) reply+1 + / -

My Epson Stylus C64 is not printing anyning. It only flash out all the lights for power, ink and paper at the same time.

Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Denny Conway (7/28/05 10:59 AM) reply+2 + / -
Xiomara: Open up your printers Status Monitor, that is on your computer system and of course it will show up on your monitors screen. See if there is actually an error message listed, something like "Parts inside your printer at the end of their service life, contact your dealer for replacement", or "Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement, call your service company". If so, then the following information will apply...A Service Error where all LED's/Lights are flashing at the same time [some models the lights will be alternatly blinking], or where you get an "Unknown Error Message", or a "General Error Message", or even a message telling you that "Parts inside your printer at the end of their service life, contact your dealer for replacement", or "Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement, call your service company", is normally a Maintenance Request Error. The maintenance request error is actually a Waste Ink Ink Pad Error and usually your remedy is to replace the waste ink pad/pads with a new one/ones and then reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You can see exploded parts diagrams for most epson ink jet printers and can also check on possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm . Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water. Then they simply dry them out and reinstall them back into their printer. The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. I would at least recommend getting that waste ink counter reset procedure and performing it first, to make sure your printer will then work. You may be able to reset that waste ink counter, using the SSC SERVICE UTILITY available at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/sscserve.exe . Unfortunatly, that utility only works using a windows operating system. You can check and see if your particular epson printer is compatible, by going to http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html ...Here's some previously posted info that may also help. "NEWUSER Re: Epson Error and power light flashing by newuser (4/5/05 11:10 AM). To reset the error download this utility: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Once installed run the program and configure it, closing the main window and right clicking the icon in the tray area, from there choose Configure and select your printers model. After configuration, select Protection counter -> Reset protection counter, it should be able to clear the error message. If that does not actually work, then the only suggestion I can give is to perform a soft-reset before resetting counter. Remove also the Epson status agent, it detects errors and it may hinder communication with the printer, then reboot your pc. As profile choose the one sscservice didn't use after autoconfiguration, check for printer response. Remember that you should also clean the waste ink pads located at the printer bottom. For a more in-depth procedure by NEWUSER, go to his site at http://myprinter.altervista.org/simplefaq/mysimplefaq.html#counter "....Unfortunatly, that ssc service utility may not actually work on all epson printers and not on all operating systems, so you will have to check it out for yourself. Just in case that source does not work: You may actually need to go on-line to try and locate the actual reset procedure, to buy and download to reset that waste ink counter...There is an "EPSON C64/C84 Disassembly Instructions Page", that you can view at http://www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/c648.html , that may be of some possible help. However, you will still need to go on-line and buy and download the actual Reset Procedure, to clear the actual Service Error Condition, if that SSC Utility does not work for you. There is an "Epson C63/C64/C83/C84 Service Manual" available at http://www.colorbat.com/PDF_Files/C84%20Service%20Manual.pdf , that may also be of some use to you...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Xiomara: If your printer is actually showing that "Waste Ink Pad Error Condition", then here's some previously posted information that may also be helpful: "Re: I Need Epson Stylus C64 Waste Ink Reset Procedure! by tomcat (2/22/05 10:28 PM). Almost all epson can be reset by: pressing and holding the paper eject button for 5 seconds. While still holding the eject button now hold the power button and the eject button for 5 seconds".....TECH NOTE: Even if that reset works, remember that you still will need to to replace the "Waste Ink Pad/Pads" with a new one/ones, or at least wash & dry the old pads, or eventually they will overflow and ink will then leak out the bottom of your printer. Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water. Then they simply dry them out and reinstall them back into their printer. The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. I would at least recommend getting that Waste Ink Counter reset procedure and performing it first, to make sure your printer will then work...Again, Good Luck! Denny Conway

my c64 say parts in your printer at end of their service life but still prints ok is there any programs to reset this

Re Thanks: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Anonymous (3/21/06 1:51 PM) reply + / -
Thanks Denny Conway! Your instructions were invaluable in fixing my printer. I have an Epson Stylus C42UX that briefly displayed the end of service life error, then a communication error and the power and maintenance lights were flashing alternately. It would not print. I took your suggestions above. I downloaded the SSC Service Utility you provided a link to to see if the protection counter was signaling the waste ink pad was almost full and indeed the counter had reached it maximum value. I used the utility to reset the counter and was able to print. I then followed the link you gave to a site that had the instructions on how to remove the pads. I almost bought some new ones but they wanted to charge $10 to ship pads that cost about $1 each so I washed them. Amazing they rinse back to white again. The printer is printing fine now. Thanks so much for not only helping xiomara but me as well!

It sounds like the tube under the cap assembly has become clogged or dislodged. Search this site for help to correct the problem.
Hope this helps.

Hi Denny:
I am a new comer and your site was recommended by Help 2Go (a wonderful, helpful place) to help with computers.

Well, our Epson Stylus C42 UX printer is causing a problem. Each time I try to print and message appears telling me that some parts have outlived their service life, maintenance is required and the on light is flashing.

Being a senior citizen I didn't have any idea what was wrong until we were directed to you, hooray.

Can you help, my husband and I are new to this so is there a simple way to fix the problem or is servicing the option. As you know, this printer type is not overly expensive but anything is expensive when on a pension. We are willing to try to repair it with step by step instructions, is this possible.

Hope you can help us. Thank you.

Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Wes (3/8/07 6:03 PM) reply + / -
Denny retired. The problem is called a maintenence request error. That means that you need to reset the protection counter. You can read this link http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html which will show you how to use the SSC service utility and also the download link for the SSC service utility.

You should clean or replace the absorber pads (waste ink pads) at some point but you can usually get away without worrying about the pads for 1 reset.

I hope this helps,

Wes

Hi all!

My Epson Stylus C64 is printing text files (only text files, PDFs and Jpegs are ok) with horizontal gaps! I cleaned the heads three times and it didn't help. My guess is that it is a software problem, but i'm not sure. Please help me if you can.

Thank you,
Angel

Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by BMB (9/26/08 1:09 AM) reply + / -
On my Stylus C64 the out of ink light and paper feed light are blinking one after the other. I have tried the program SSC service utility but this apparently does not support the C64 . I have tried holding the buttons down in various ways for varying lengths of time and the lights still blink at me. The only ither thing I want to try is removing the waste ink pads but cannot find anywhere that tell me where they are - then I will rinse and replace and see what happens.

Re: Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by WaveGuide (9/26/08 2:24 PM) reply + / -
Hello BMB,
The waste ink pads are usually located in the very base of the printer. You may find dismantling instructions or a service manual by using the search system.
Replacing/washing the pads won't reset the waste ink counter, which is causing the flashing lights. Because the SSC Utility doesn't work with the C64, you can't fix the problem. I believe only an Epson service center can do it.

Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Wes (edited 9/26/08 11:57 PM) reply + / -
The C64 IS supported by the SSC utility it DOES NOT reset the ink lrvels but it does reset the protection counter. Ink level counter and protection counter are two seperate things.

The SSC does not work on moat MAC's so you will need a PC to use the SSC utility.

Re: Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Anonymous (9/27/08 2:33 AM) reply + / -
THanks Wes, but when I go into SSC I can get to the stage of the icon and right click it and then get Protection Counter but when I click on Reset Counter Protection nothing comes up on my screen.
Should something come up on the screen?
Should I try this with the printer on or off?

Thanks Wes and Jax I'm coming up as anonymous and not sure why BMB

Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Wes (9/27/08 9:06 AM) reply + / -
The printer has to be on. Read here http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html for more info. The page shows what you should be seeing. Don't forget that you need to configure the utility otherwise it will not be able to communicate with your printer.

Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by Wes (9/27/08 10:12 AM) reply + / -
You will need to clear the print que first.

Re: Epson Stylus C64 in problems, Help!!!! by BMB (9/29/08 12:56 AM) reply + / -
Will give that a go Wes. For some reason I seem to have the same printer under 2 diffferent names - one is called Copy 1 - and both have a print queue. Do you think I need to get rid of one of the entries on the system first. Copy 1 has the green tick against it. BMB

Hello

Have tried everything now Cleared the print queue, configured the printer gone into SSC Tried to reset the counter via protection etc nothing on the screen after I do that - still flashing lights. BMB

Compro un Epson Stylus D120 network ready.

Thanks for your suggestion (and everyone one else's ideas) but the printer still doesn't work. I'm buying an Epson D120

Epson 2200 by Anonymous (11/15/09 4:36 PM) reply + / -
Denny,

You seem to be the expert on Epsons and give good advice. Have went through about 50 post and have not found my issue listed, could have missed it. ISSUE My Magenta ink cartridge out light stays on and does not change even when putting a new one in. Have tried a couple of resets with out any luck. The worst of it is that I now have two Epson 2200s with the same issue. Any advice help would be great.
